Surely there are mockers and mockery around me, and my eye dwells on their obstinacy, insults, and resistance.

3 D á-me, peço-te, um penhor, e sê o meu fiador para contigo; quem mais há que me dê a mão?

Give me a pledge with Yourself; who is there that will give security for me?

4 P orque aos seus corações encobriste o entendimento, pelo que não os exaltarás.

But their hearts You have closed to understanding; therefore You will not let them triumph.

5 Q uem entrega os seus amigos como presa, os olhos de seus filhos desfalecerão.

He who denounces his friends a prey and get a share, the eyes of his children shall fail.

6 M as a mim me pôs por motejo dos povos; tornei-me como aquele em cujo rosto se cospe.

But He has made me a byword among the people, and they spit before my face.

7 D e mágoa se escureceram os meus olhos, e todos os meus membros são como a sombra.

My eye has grown dim because of grief, and all my members are like a shadow.

8 O s retos pasmam disso, e o inocente se levanta contra o ímpio.

Upright men shall be astonished and appalled at this, and the innocent shall stir himself up against the godless and polluted.

9 C ontudo o justo prossegue no seu caminho e o que tem mãos puras vai crescendo em força.

Yet shall the righteous (those upright and in right standing with God) hold to their ways, and he who has clean hands shall grow stronger and stronger.

10 M as tornai vós todos, e vinde, e sábio nenhum acharei entre vós.

But as for you, come on again, all of you, though I find not a wise man among you.

11 O s meus dias passaram, malograram-se os meus propósitos, as aspirações do meu coração.

My days are past, my purposes and plans are frustrated; even the thoughts (desires and possessions) of my heart.

12 T rocam a noite em dia; dizem que a luz está perto das trevas. el,

These extend from the night into the day, the light is short because of darkness.

13 S e eu olhar o Seol como a minha casa, se nas trevas estender a minha cama,

But if I look to Sheol (the unseen state) as my abode, if I spread my couch in the darkness,

14 s e eu clamar ã cova: Tu és meu pai; e aos vermes: Vós sois minha mãe e minha irmã;

If I say to the grave and corruption, You are my father, and to the worm, You are my mother and my sister,

15 o nde está então a minha esperança? Sim, a minha esperança, quem a poderá ver?

Where then is my hope? And if I have hope, who will see ?

16 A caso descerá comigo até os ferrolhos do Seol? Descansaremos juntos no pó?

shall go down to the bars of Sheol (the unseen state) when once there is rest in the dust.
