1 N ão clama porventura a sabedoria, e não faz o entendimento soar a sua voz?

Does not skillful and godly Wisdom cry out, and understanding raise her voice ?

2 N o cume das alturas, junto ao caminho, nas encruzilhadas das veredas ela se coloca.

On the top of the heights beside the way, where the paths meet, stands Wisdom;

3 J unto

At the gates at the entrance of the town, at the coming in at the doors, she cries out:

4 A vós, ó homens, clamo; e a minha voz se dirige aos filhos dos homens.

To you, O men, I call, and my voice is directed to the sons of men.

5 A prendei, ó simples, a prudência; entendei, ó loucos, a sabedoria.

O you simple and thoughtless ones, understand prudence; you fools, be of an understanding heart.

6 O uvi vós, porque profiro coisas excelentes; os meus lábios se abrem para a eqüidade.

Hear, for I will speak excellent and princely things; and the opening of my lips shall be for right things.

7 P orque a minha boca profere a verdade, os meus lábios abominam a impiedade.

For my mouth shall utter truth, and wrongdoing is detestable and loathsome to my lips.

8 J ustas são todas as palavras da minha boca; não há nelas nenhuma coisa tortuosa nem perversa.

All the words of my mouth are righteous (upright and in right standing with God); there is nothing contrary to truth or crooked in them.

9 T odas elas são retas para o que bem as entende, e justas para os que acham o conhecimento.

They are all plain to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge.

10 A ceitai antes a minha correção, e não a prata; e o conhecimento, antes do que o ouro escolhido.

Receive my instruction in preference to silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold,

11 P orque melhor é a sabedoria do que as jóias; e de tudo o que se deseja nada se pode comparar com ela.

For skillful and godly Wisdom is better than rubies or pearls, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

12 E u, a sabedoria, habito com a prudência, e possuo o conhecimento e a discrição.

I, Wisdom, make prudence my dwelling, and I find out knowledge and discretion.

13 O temor do Senhor é odiar o mal; a soberba, e a arrogância, e o mau caminho, e a boca perversa, eu os odeio.

The reverent fear and worshipful awe of the Lord the hatred of evil; pride, arrogance, the evil way, and perverted and twisted speech I hate.

14 M eu é o conselho, e a verdadeira sabedoria; eu sou o entendimento; minha é a fortaleza.

I have counsel and sound knowledge, I have understanding, I have might and power.

15 P or mim reinam os reis, e os príncipes decretam o que justo.

By me kings reign and rulers decree justice.

16 P or mim governam os príncipes e os nobres, sim, todos os juízes da terra.

By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges and governors of the earth.

17 E u amo aos que me amam, e os que diligentemente me buscam me acharão.

I love those who love me, and those who seek me early and diligently shall find me.

18 R iquezas e honra estão comigo; sim, riquezas duráveis e justiça.

Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness (uprightness in every area and relation, and right standing with God).

19 M elhor é o meu fruto do que o ouro, sim, do que o ouro refinado; e a minha renda melhor do que a prata escolhida.

My fruit is better than gold, yes, than refined gold, and my increase than choice silver.

20 A ndo pelo caminho da retidão, no meio das veredas da justiça,

I walk in the way of righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation), in the midst of the paths of justice,

21 d otando de bens permanentes os que me amam, e enchendo os seus tesouros.

That I may cause those who love me to inherit riches and that I may fill their treasuries.

22 O Senhor me criou como a primeira das suas obras, o princípio dos seus feitos mais antigos.

The Lord formed and brought me forth at the beginning of His way, before His acts of old.

23 D esde a eternidade fui constituída, desde o princípio, antes de existir a terra.

I was inaugurated and ordained from everlasting, from the beginning, before ever the earth existed.

24 A ntes de haver abismos, fui gerada, e antes ainda de haver fontes cheias d'água.

When there were no deeps, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains laden with water.

25 A ntes que os montes fossem firmados, antes dos outeiros eu nasci,

Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth,

26 q uando ele ainda não tinha feito a terra com seus campos, nem sequer o princípio do pó do mundo.

While as yet He had not made the land or the fields or the first of the dust of the earth.

27 Q uando ele preparava os céus, aí estava eu; quando traçava um círculo sobre a face do abismo,

When He prepared the heavens, I was there; when He drew a circle upon the face of the deep and stretched out the firmament over it,

28 q uando estabelecia o firmamento em cima, quando se firmavam as fontes do abismo,

When He made firm the skies above, when He established the fountains of the deep,

29 q uando ele fixava ao mar o seu termo, para que as águas não traspassassem o seu mando, quando traçava os fundamentos da terra,

When He gave to the sea its limit and His decree that the waters should not transgress His command, when He appointed the foundations of the earth—

30 e ntão eu estava ao seu lado como arquiteto; e era cada dia as suas delícias, alegrando-me perante ele em todo o tempo;

Then I was beside Him as a master and director of the work; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing before Him always,

31 f olgando no seu mundo habitável, e achando as minhas delícias com os filhos dos homens.

Rejoicing in His inhabited earth and delighting in the sons of men.

32 A gora, pois, filhos, ouvi-me; porque felizes são os que guardam os meus caminhos.

Now therefore listen to me, O you sons; for blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are those who keep my ways.

33 O uvi a correção, e sede sábios; e não a rejeiteis.

Hear instruction and be wise, and do not refuse or neglect it.

34 F eliz é o homem que me dá ouvidos, velando cada dia

Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 P orque o que me achar achará a vida, e alcançará o favor do Senhor.

For whoever finds me finds life and draws forth and obtains favor from the Lord.

36 M as o que pecar contra mim fará mal ã sua própria alma; todos os que me odeiam amam a morte.

But he who misses me or sins against me wrongs and injures himself; all who hate me love and court death.
