1 O ra pois, já que Cristo padeceu na carne, armai-vos também vós deste mesmo pensamento; porque aquele que padeceu na carne já cessou do pecado;

So, since Christ suffered in the flesh for us, for you, arm yourselves with the same thought and purpose. For whoever has suffered in the flesh '> the mind of Christ] is done with sin,

2 p ara que, no tempo que ainda vos resta na carne não continueis a viver para as concupiscências dos homens, mas para a vontade de Deus.

So that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by human appetites and desires, but for what God wills.

3 P orque é bastante que no tempo passado tenhais cumprido a vontade dos gentios, andando em dissoluções, concupiscências, borrachices, glutonarias, bebedices e abomináveis idolatrias.

For the time that is past already suffices for doing what the Gentiles like to do—living in shameless, insolent wantonness, in lustful desires, drunkenness, reveling, drinking bouts and abominable, lawless idolatries.

4 E acham estranho não correrdes com eles no mesmo desenfreamento de dissolução, blasfemando de vós;

They are astonished and think it very queer that you do not now run hand in hand with them in the same excesses of dissipation, and they abuse.

5 o s quais hão de dar conta ao que está preparado para julgar os vivos e os mortos.

But they will have to give an account to Him Who is ready to judge and pass sentence on the living and the dead.

6 P ois é por isto que foi pregado o evangelho até aos mortos, para que, na verdade, fossem julgados segundo os homens na carne, mas vivessem segundo Deus em espírito.

For this is why the good news (the Gospel) was preached '> in their lifetime] even to the dead, that though judged in fleshly bodies as men are, they might live in the spirit as God does.

7 M as já está próximo o fim de todas as coisas; portanto sede sóbrios e vigiai em oração;

But the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for prayer.

8 t endo antes de tudo ardente amor uns para com os outros, porque o amor cobre uma multidão de pecados;

Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins '> disregards the offenses of others].

9 s endo hospitaleiros uns para com os outros, sem murmuração;

Practice hospitality to one another (those of the household of faith). And do it ungrudgingly (cordially and graciously, without complaining but as representing Him).

10 s ervindo uns aos outros conforme o dom que cada um recebeu, como bons despenseiros da multiforme graça de Deus.

As each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as good trustees of God’s many-sided grace '> extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor].

11 S e alguém fala, fale como entregando oráculos de Deus; se alguém ministra, ministre segundo a força que Deus concede; para que em tudo Deus seja glorificado por meio de Jesus Cristo, ma quem pertencem a glória e o domínio para todo o sempre. Amém.

Whoever speaks, oracles of God; whoever renders service, as with the strength which God furnishes abundantly, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever (through endless ages). Amen (so be it).

12 A mados, não estranheis a ardente provação que vem sobre vós para vos experimentar, como se coisa estranha vos acontecesse;

Beloved, do not be amazed and bewildered at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your quality, as though something strange (unusual and alien to you and your position) were befalling you.

13 m as regozijai-vos por serdes participantes das aflições de Cristo; para que também na revelação da sua glória vos regozijeis e exulteis.

But insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, so that when His glory is revealed, you may also rejoice with triumph.

14 S e pelo nome de Cristo sois vituperados, bem-aventurados sois, porque sobre vós repousa o Espírito da glória, o Espírito de Deus.

If you are censured and suffer abuse the name of Christ, blessed '> to be envied, with life-joy, and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of your outward condition], because the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of God, is resting upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

15 Q ue nenhum de vós, entretanto, padeça como homicida, ou ladrão, ou malfeitor, ou como quem se entremete em negócios alheios;

But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or any sort of criminal, or as a mischief-maker (a meddler) in the affairs of others.

16 m as, se padece como cristão, não se envergonhe, antes glorifique a Deus neste nome.

But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but give glory to God that he is in this name.

17 P orque já é tempo que comece o julgamento pela casa de Deus; e se começa por nós, qual será o fim daqueles que desobedecem ao evangelho de Deus?

For the time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will the end of those who do not respect or believe or obey the good news (the Gospel) of God?

18 E se o justo dificilmente se salva, onde comparecerá o ímpio pecador?

And if the righteous are barely saved, what will become of the godless and wicked?

19 P ortanto os que sofrem segundo a vontade de Deus confiem as suas almas ao fiel Criador, praticando o bem.

Therefore, those who are ill-treated and suffer in accordance with God’s will must do right and commit their souls to the One Who created and will never fail.
