1 O ráculo acerca de Babilônia, que Isaías, filho de Amoz, recebeu numa visão.

The mournful, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning Babylon which Isaiah son of Amoz saw:

2 A lçai uma bandeira sobre o monte escalvado; levantai a voz para eles; acenai-lhes com a mão, para que entrem pelas portas dos príncipes.

Raise up a signal banner upon the high and bare mountain, summon them with loud voice and beckoning hand that they may enter the gates of the nobles.

3 E u dei ordens aos meus consagrados; sim, já chamei os meus valentes para executarem a minha ira, os que exultam arrogantemente.

I Myself have commanded My designated ones and have summoned My mighty men to execute My anger, even My proudly exulting ones —those who are made to triumph for My honor.

4 E is um tumulto sobre os montes, como o de grande multidão! Eis um tumulto de reinos, de nações congregadas! O Senhor dos exércitos passa em revista o exército para a guerra.

Hark, the uproar of a multitude in the mountains, like that of a great people! The noise of the tumult of the kingdoms of the nations gathering together! The Lord of hosts is mustering the host for the battle.

5 V êm duma terra de longe, desde a extremidade do céu, o Senhor e os instrumentos da sua indignação, para destruir toda aquela terra.

They come from a distant country, from the uttermost part of the heavens —even the Lord and the weapons of His indignation—to seize and destroy the whole land.

6 U ivai, porque o dia do Senhor está perto; virá do Todo-Poderoso como assolação.

Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand; as destruction from the Almighty and Sufficient One will it come!

7 P elo que todas as mãos se debilitarão, e se derreterá o coração de todos os homens.

Therefore will all hands be feeble, and every man’s heart will melt.

8 E ficarão desanimados; e deles se apoderarão dores e ais; e se angustiarão, como a mulher que está de parto; olharão atônitos uns para os outros; os seus rostos serão rostos flamejantes.

And they shall be dismayed and terrified, pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman in childbirth. They will gaze stupefied and aghast at one another, their faces will be aflame.

9 E is que o dia do Senhor vem, horrendo, com furor e ira ardente; para pôr a terra em assolação e para destruir do meio dela os seus pecadores.

Behold, the day of the Lord is coming!—fierce, with wrath and raging anger—to make the land and the earth a desolation and to destroy out of it its sinners.

10 P ois as estrelas do céu e as suas constelações não deixarão brilhar a sua luz; o sol se escurecerá ao nascer, e a lua não fará resplandecer a sua luz.

For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be darkened at its rising and the moon will not shed its light.

11 E visitarei sobre o mundo a sua maldade, e sobre os ímpios a sua iniqüidade; e farei cessar a arrogância dos atrevidos, e abaterei a soberba dos cruéis.

And I, the Lord, will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their guilt and iniquity; I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible and the boasting of the violent and ruthless.

12 F arei que os homens sejam mais raros do que o ouro puro, sim mais raros do que o ouro fino de Ofir.

I will make a man more rare than fine gold, and mankind scarcer than the pure gold of Ophir.

13 P elo que farei estremecer o céu, e a terra se movera do seu lugar, por causa do furor do Senhor dos exércitos, e por causa do dia da sua ardente ira.

Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth shall be shaken out of its place at the wrath of the Lord of hosts in the day of His fierce anger.

14 E como a corça quando é perseguida, e como a ovelha que ninguém recolhe, assim cada um voltará para o seu povo, e cada um fugirá para a sua terra.

And like the chased roe or gazelle, and like sheep that no man gathers, each will turn to his own people, and each will flee to his own land.

15 T odo o que for achado será traspassado; e todo o que for apanhado, cairá ã espada.

Everyone who is found will be thrust through, and everyone who is connected with the slain and is caught will fall by the sword.

16 E suas crianças serão despedaçadas perante os seus olhos; as suas casas serão saqueadas, e as suas mulheres violadas.

Their infants also will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.

17 E is que suscitarei contra eles os medos, que não farão caso da prata, nem tampouco no ouro terão prazer.

Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold.

18 E os seus arcos despedaçarão aos mancebos; e não se compadecerão do fruto do ventre; os seus olhos não pouparão as crianças.

Their bows will cut down the young men; and they will have no pity on the fruit of the womb, their eyes will not spare children.

19 E Babilônia, a glória dos reinos, o esplendor e o orgulho dos caldeus, será como Sodoma e Gomorra, quando Deus as transtornou.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, shall be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.

20 N unca mais será habitada, nem nela morará alguém de geração em geração; nem o árabe armará ali a sua tenda; nem tampouco os pastores ali farão deitar os seus rebanhos.

shall never be inhabited or dwelt in from generation to generation; neither shall the Arab pitch his tent there, nor shall the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.

21 M as as feras do deserto repousarão ali, e as suas casas se encherão de horríveis animais; e ali habitarão as avestruzes, e os sátiros pularão ali.

But wild beasts of the desert will lie down there, and the people’s houses will be full of dolefully howling creatures; and ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will dance there.

22 A s hienas uivarão nos seus castelos, e os chacais nos seus palácios de prazer; bem perto está o seu tempo, e os seus dias não se prolongarão.

And wolves and howling creatures will cry and answer in the deserted castles, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. And time has nearly come, and her days will not be prolonged.
