1 P oi vidi un nuovo cielo e una nuova terra, perché il primo cielo e la prima terra erano passati, e il mare non c'era piú.

Then I saw a new sky (heaven) and a new earth, for the former sky and the former earth had passed away (vanished), and there no longer existed any sea.

2 E io, Giovanni, vidi la santa città, la nuova Gerusalemme, che scendeva dal cielo da presso Dio, pronta come una sposa adorna per il suo sposo.

And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, all arrayed like a bride beautified and adorned for her husband;

3 E udii una gran voce dal cielo, che diceva: «Ecco il tabernacolo di Dio con gli uomini! Ed egli abiterà con loro; e essi saranno suo popolo e Dio stesso sarà con loro e sarà il loro Dio.

Then I heard a mighty voice from the throne and I perceived its distinct words, saying, See! The abode of God is with men, and He will live (encamp, tent) among them; and they shall be His people, and God shall personally be with them and be their God.

4 E Dio asciugherà ogni lacrima dai loro occhi, e non ci sarà piú la morte né cordoglio né grido né fatica, perché le cose di prima son passate».

God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away.

5 A llora colui che sedeva sul trono disse: «Ecco, io faccio tutte le cose nuove». Poi mi disse: «Scrivi, perché queste parole sono veraci e fedeli».

And He Who is seated on the throne said, See! I make all things new. Also He said, Record this, for these sayings are faithful (accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy) and true (genuine).

6 E mi disse ancora: «E' fatto! Io sono l'Alfa e l'Omega, il principio e la fine; a chi ha sete io darò in dono della fonte dell'acqua della vita.

And He said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without price from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life.

7 C hi vince erediterà tutte le cose, e io sarò per lui Dio ed egli sarà per me figlio.

He who is victorious shall inherit all these things, and I will be God to him and he shall be My son.

8 M a per i codardi, gl'increduli, gl'immondi, gli omicidi, i fornicatori, i maghi, gli idolatri e tutti i bugiardi, la loro parte sarà nello stagno che arde con fuoco e zolfo, che è la morte seconda».

But as for the cowards and the ignoble and the contemptible and the cravenly lacking in courage and the cowardly submissive, and as for the unbelieving and faithless, and as for the depraved and defiled with abominations, and as for murderers and the lewd and adulterous and the practicers of magic arts and the idolaters (those who give supreme devotion to anyone or anything other than God) and all liars (those who knowingly convey untruth by word or deed)— their part in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.

9 P oi venne uno dei sette angeli che avevano le sette coppe piene delle ultime sette piaghe, e parlò con me, dicendo: «Vieni, ti mostrerò la sposa, la moglie dell'Agnello».

Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven final plagues (afflictions, calamities) came and spoke to me. He said, Come with me! I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.

10 E mi trasportò in spirito su di un grande ed alto monte, e mi mostrò la grande città, la santa Gerusalemme che scendeva dal cielo da presso Dio,

Then in the Spirit He conveyed me away to a vast and lofty mountain and exhibited to me the holy (hallowed, consecrated) city of Jerusalem descending out of heaven from God,

11 a vendo la gloria di Dio. E il suo splendore era simile a quello di una pietra preziosissima, come una pietra di diaspro cristallino.

Clothed in God’s glory. The luster of it resembled a rare and most precious jewel, like jasper, shining clear as crystal.

12 E ssa aveva un grande ed alto muro con dodici porte, e alle porte dodici angeli, e su di esse dei nomi scritti che sono i nomi delle dodici tribú dei figli d'Israele.

It had a massive and high wall with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were written:

13 A oriente vi erano tre porte, a settentrione tre porte, a mezzogiorno tre porte e ad occidente tre porte.

On the east side three gates, on the north side three gates, on the south side three gates, and on the west side three gates.

14 I l muro della città aveva dodici fondamenti, e su quelli erano i dodici nomi dei dodici apostoli dell'Agnello.

And the wall of the city had twelve foundation, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 E colui che parlava con me aveva una canna d'oro, per misurare la città, le sue porte e il suo muro.

And he who spoke to me had a golden measuring reed (rod) to measure the city and its gates and its wall.

16 L a città era a forma quadrangolare, e la sua lunghezza era uguale alla larghezza; egli misurò la città con la canna, ed era di dodicimila stadi; la sua lunghezza, larghezza e altezza erano uguali.

The city lies in a square, its length being the same as its width. And he measured the city with his reed—12, 000 stadia (about 1, 500 miles); its length and width and height are the same.

17 M isurò anche il muro ed era di centoquarantaquattro cubiti, a misura di uomo, cioè d'angelo.

He measured its wall also—144 cubits (about 72 yards) by a man’s measure '> of a cubit from his elbow to his third fingertip], which is of the angel.

18 I l muro era fatto di diaspro; e la città era di oro puro, simile a cristallo trasparente.

The wall was built of jasper, while the city pure gold, clear and transparent like glass.

19 L e fondamenta del muro della città erano adorne d'ogni pietra preziosa; il primo fondamento era di diaspro, il secondo di zaffiro, il terzo di calcedonio, il quarto di smeraldo,

The foundation of the wall of the city were ornamented with all of the precious stones. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony (or white agate), the fourth emerald,

20 i l quinto di sardonico, il sesto di sardio, il settimo di crisolito l'ottavo di berillo, il nono di topazio, il decimo di crisopazio, l'undicesimo di giacinto, il dodicesimo di ametista.

The fifth onyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.

21 E le dodici porte erano dodici perle; ciascuna delle porte era fatta di una sola perla; e la piazza della città era di oro puro, come di cristallo trasparente.

And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each separate gate being built of one solid pearl. And the main street (the broadway) of the city was of gold as pure and translucent as glass.

22 N on vidi in essa alcun tempio, perché il Signore Dio onnipotente e l'Agnello sono il suo tempio.

I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Omnipotent and the Lamb are its temple.

23 E la città non ha bisogno del sole né della luna, che risplendano in lei, perché la gloria di Dio la illumina e l'Agnello è il suo luminare.

And the city has no need of the sun nor of the moon to give light to it, for the splendor and radiance (glory) of God illuminate it, and the Lamb is its lamp.

24 E le nazioni di quelli che sono salvati cammineranno alla sua luce, e i re della terra porteranno la loro gloria ed onore in lei.

The nations shall walk by its light and the rulers and leaders of the earth shall bring into it their glory.

25 L e sue porte non saranno mai chiuse durante il giorno, perché lí non vi sarà notte alcuna.

And its gates shall never be closed by day, and there shall be no night there.

26 I n lei si porterà la gloria e l'onore delle nazioni.

They shall bring the glory (the splendor and majesty) and the honor of the nations into it.

27 E nulla d'immondo e nessuno che commetta abominazione o falsità vi entrerà mai, ma soltanto quelli che sono scritti nel libro della vita dell'Agnello.

But nothing that defiles or profanes or is unwashed shall ever enter it, nor anyone who commits abominations (unclean, detestable, morally repugnant things) or practices falsehood, but only those whose names are recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
