1 C hi dimora nel riparo dell'Altissimo, riposa all'ombra dell'Onnipotente.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 d ico all'Eterno: «Tu sei il mio rifugio e la mia fortezza, il mio DIO, in cui confido».

I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I trust!

3 C erto egli ti libererà dal laccio dell'uccellatore e dalla peste mortifera.

For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

4 E gli ti coprirà con le sue penne e sotto le sue ali troverai rifugio; la sua fedeltà ti sarà scudo e corazza.

He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

5 T u non temerai lo spavento notturno, né la freccia che vola di giorno,

You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,

6 n é la peste che vaga nelle tenebre, né lo sterminio che imperversa a mezzodí.

Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.

7 M ille cadranno al tuo fianco e diecimila alla tua destra, ma a te non si accosterà.

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.

8 B asta che tu osservi con gli occhi; e vedrai la retribuzione degli empi.

Only a spectator shall you be as you witness the reward of the wicked.

9 P oiché tu hai detto: «O Eterno, tu sei il mio rifugio», e hai fatto dell'Altissimo il tuo riparo,

Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,

10 n on ti accadrà alcun male, né piaga alcuna si accosterà alla tua tenda.

There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.

11 P oiché egli comanderà ai suoi Angeli di custodirti in tutte le tue vie.

For He will give His angels charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways.

12 E ssi ti porteranno nelle loro mani, perché il tuo piede non inciampi in alcuna pietra.

They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13 T u camminerai sul leone e sull'aspide, calpesterai il leoncello e il dragone.

You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot.

14 P oiché egli ha riposto in me il suo amore io lo libererò e lo leverò in alto al sicuro perché conosce il mio nome.

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name.

15 E gli mi invocherà e io gli risponderò; sarò con lui nell'avversità; lo libererò e lo glorificherò.

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

16 L o sazierò di lunga vita e gli farò vedere la mia salvezza.

With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.
