1 S iate miei imitatori, come anch'io lo sono di Cristo.

Pattern yourselves after me, as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).

2 O r vi lodo, fratelli, perché vi ricordate di tutte le cose che provengono da me, e perché ritenete gli ordinamenti, come ve li ho trasmessi.

I appreciate and commend you because you always remember me in everything and keep firm possession of the traditions (the substance of my instructions), just as I have passed them on to you.

3 V oglio però che sappiate che il capo di ogni uomo è Cristo, il capo della donna è l'uomo e il capo di Cristo è Dio.

But I want you to know and realize that Christ is the Head of every man, the head of a woman is her husband, and the Head of Christ is God.

4 O gni uomo, che prega o profetizza col capo coperto, fa vergogna al suo capo.

Any man who prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, and comforts) with his head covered dishonors his Head (Christ).

5 M a ogni donna, che prega o profetizza col capo scoperto, fa vergogna al suo capo perché è la stessa cosa che se fosse rasa.

And any woman who prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, or comforts) when she is bareheaded dishonors her head (her husband); it is the same as shaved.

6 O ra se la donna non si copre, si faccia pure tagliare i capelli; ma se è una cosa vergognosa per la donna farsi tagliare i capelli o rasare, si copra il capo.

For if a woman will not wear covering, then she should cut off her hair too; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her head shorn or shaven, let her cover.

7 L 'uomo invece non deve coprirsi il capo, perché è l'immagine e la gloria di Dio; ma la donna è la gloria dell'uomo,

For a man ought not to wear anything on his head, for he is the image and glory of God '> his function of government reflects the majesty of the divine Rule]; but woman is man’s glory (majesty, preeminence).

8 p erché l'uomo non è dalla donna, ma la donna dall'uomo,

For man was not from woman, but woman from man;

9 a nche perché l'uomo non fu creato per la donna, ma la donna per l'uomo.

Neither was man created on account of or for the benefit of woman, but woman on account of and for the benefit of man.

10 P erciò la donna deve avere sul capo un segno di autorità, a motivo degli angeli.

Therefore she should have a covering on her head '> that she may show reverence as do] the angels.

11 N ondimeno, né l'uomo è senza la donna, né la donna senza l'uomo, nel Signore,

Nevertheless, in the Lord and from His point of view woman is not apart from and independent of man, nor is man aloof from and independent of woman;

12 p erché come la donna proviene dall'uomo, cosí anche l'uomo nasce per mezzo della donna, e ogni cosa è da Dio.

For as woman was made from man, even so man is also born of woman; and all from God.

13 G iudicate fra voi stessi. E' conveniente che la donna preghi Dio senza essere coperta?

Consider for yourselves; is it proper and decent for a woman to offer prayer to God with her head uncovered?

14 L a natura stessa non vi insegna che è un disonore per l'uomo portare la chioma?

Does not the native sense of propriety (experience, common sense, reason) itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is a dishonor to him,

15 S e invece la donna porta la chioma, ciò è per lei un onore, poiché la chioma le è stata data per copertura.

But if a woman has long hair, it is her ornament and glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

16 O ra se alcuno vuol essere contenzioso, noi non abbiamo una tale usanza e neppure le chiese di Dio.

Now if anyone is disposed to be argumentative and contentious about this, we hold to and recognize no other custom than this, nor do the churches of God generally.

17 O ra in quello che vi ordino, io non vi lodo, perché vi riunite non per il meglio, ma per il peggio,

But in what I instruct next I do not commend, because when you meet together, it is not for the better but for the worse.

18 p rima di tutto, perché sento dire che quando vi riunite in assemblea vi sono fra voi delle divisioni; e in parte lo credo.

For in the first place, when you assemble as a congregation, I hear that there are cliques (divisions and factions) among you; and I in part believe it,

19 E ' necessario infatti che vi siano anche delle fazioni tra voi, affinché siano manifestati tra voi quelli che sono approvati.

For doubtless there have to be factions or parties among you in order that they who are genuine and of approved fitness may become evident and plainly recognized among you.

20 Q uando dunque vi riunite insieme, quello che fate non è mangiare la cena del Signore,

So when you gather for your meetings, it is not the supper instituted by the Lord that you eat,

21 p erché nel mangiare ciascuno prende prima la propria cena; e uno ha fame e l'altro è ubriaco.

For in eating each one to get his own supper first, and one goes hungry while another gets drunk.

22 O ra non avete delle case per mangiare e bere? O disprezzate la chiesa di Dio e fate vergognare quelli che non hanno nulla? Che vi dirò? Vi loderò? In questo non vi lodo.

What! Do you have no houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and mean to show contempt for it, while you humiliate those who are poor (have no homes and have brought no food)? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not!

23 P oiché io ho ricevuto dal Signore ciò che vi ho anche trasmesso: che il Signore Gesú, nella notte in cui fu tradito, prese del pane,

For I received from the Lord Himself that which I passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was treacherously delivered up and while His betrayal was in progress took bread,

24 e , dopo aver reso grazie, lo spezzò e disse: «Prendete, mangiate; questo è il mio corpo che è spezzato per voi; fate questo in memoria di me».

And when He had given thanks, He broke and said, Take, eat. This is My body, which is broken for you. Do this to call Me to remembrance.

25 P arimenti, dopo aver cenato, prese anche il calice, dicendo: «Questo calice è il nuovo patto nel mio sangue; fate questo ogni volta che ne bevete in memoria di me».

Similarly when supper was ended, He took the cup also, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink, to call Me to remembrance.

26 P oiché ogni volta che mangiate di questo pane e bevete di questo calice, voi annunziate la morte del Signore, finché egli venga.

For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are representing and signifying and proclaiming the fact of the Lord’s death until He comes.

27 P erciò chiunque mangia di questo pane o beve del calice del Signore indegnamente, sarà colpevole del corpo e del sangue del Signore.

So then whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in a way that is unworthy will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

28 O ra ognuno esamini se stesso, e cosí mangi del pane e beva del calice,

Let a man examine himself, and so should he eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

29 p oiché chi ne mangia e beve indegnamente, mangia e beve un giudizio contro se stesso, non discernendo il corpo del Signore.

For anyone who eats and drinks without discriminating and recognizing with due appreciation that body, eats and drinks a sentence (a verdict of judgment) upon himself.

30 P er questa ragione fra voi vi sono molti infermi e malati, e molti muoiono.

That is the reason many of you are weak and sickly, and quite enough of you have fallen into the sleep of death.

31 P erché se esaminassimo noi stessi, non saremmo giudicati.

For if we searchingly examined ourselves, we should not be judged and penalty decreed.

32 M a quando siamo giudicati, siamo corretti dal Signore, affinché non siamo condannati col mondo.

But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined and chastened, so that we may not be condemned with the world.

33 P ertanto, fratelli miei, riunendovi per mangiare, aspettatevi gli uni gli altri.

So then, my brothers, when you gather together to eat, wait for one another.

34 E se qualcuno ha fame, mangi a casa, affinché non vi riuniate per attirarvi un giudizio. Or quanto alle altre cose le Sistemerò quando verrò.

If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together to bring judgment. About the other matters, I will give you directions when I come.
