1 P oi alzai nuovamente gli occhi e guardai, ed ecco un rotolo che volava.

Again I lifted up my eyes and behold, I saw a scroll flying or floating in the air!

2 L 'angelo mi disse: «Che cosa vedi?». Io risposi: «Vedo un rotolo che vola; la sua lunghezza è di venti cubiti, e la sua larghezza di dieci cubiti».

And the angel said to me, What do you see? And I answered, I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits or thirty feet and its breadth is ten cubits or fifteen feet.

3 A llora egli mi disse: «Questa è la maledizione che si sta spargendo su tutto il paese; perché da ora in poi, chiunque ruba sia reciso da esso e chiunque da ora in poi giura, sarà reciso da esso.

Then he said to me, This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land; for everyone who steals shall be cut off from henceforth according to it, and everyone who swears falsely shall be cut off from henceforth according to it.

4 I o la farò uscire», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, «ed essa entrerà nella casa del ladro e nella casa di colui che giura falsamente nel mio nome; rimarrà in quella casa e la consumerà insieme col suo legname e le sue pietre».

I will bring forth, says the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him who swears falsely by My name; and it shall abide in the midst of his house and shall consume it, both its timber and its stones.

5 Q uindi l'angelo che parlava con me uscí e mi disse: «Alza gli occhi e guarda che cosa è ciò che sta uscendo».

Then the angel who talked with me came forward and said to me, Lift up now your eyes and see what this is that goes forth.

6 I o dissi: «Che cos'è». Egli disse: «E'l'efa che esce». Poi aggiunse: «Questo è il loro aspetto in tutto il paese».

And I said, What is it? And he said, This that goes forth is an ephah. This, he continued, is the symbol of the sinners mentioned above and is the resemblance of their iniquity throughout the whole land.

7 Q uindi ecco, fu alzato un coperchio di piombo, e cosí in mezzo all'efa stava seduta una donna.

And behold, a round, flat weight of lead was lifted and there sat a woman in the midst of the ephah.

8 A llora egli disse: «Questa è la malvagità». E la gettò in mezzo all'efa, quindi gettò il coperchio di piombo sulla sua apertura.

And he said, This is lawlessness (wickedness)! And he thrust her back into the ephah and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth of it!

9 P oi alzai gli occhi e guardai, ed ecco avanzarsi due donne con il vento nelle loro ali, perché esse avevano ali come le ali di una cicogna, e sollevarono l'efa tra terra e cielo.

Then lifted I up my eyes and looked, and behold, there were two women coming forward! The wind was in their wings, for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heavens.

10 C osí domandai all'angelo che parlava con me: «Dove portano l'efa costoro?».

Then said I to the angel who talked with me, Where are they taking the ephah?

11 E gli mi rispose: «Nel paese di Scinar per costruirle una casa, quando sarà pronta l'efa sarà collocata sul suo piedistallo».

And he said to me, To the land of Shinar to build it a house, and when it is finished, to set up the ephah there upon its own base.
