1 O ra, mentre essi parlavano al popolo, i sacerdoti, il comandante del tempio e i sadducei, piombarono su di loro,

And while they were talking to the people, the high priests and the military commander of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,

2 i ndignati perché ammaestravano il popolo e annunziavano in Gesú la risurrezione dai morti.

Being vexed and indignant through and through because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

3 E misero loro le mani addosso e li gettarono in prigione fino al giorno seguente, perché era già sera.

So they laid hands on them (arrested them) and put them in prison until the following day, for it was already evening.

4 O r molti di coloro che avevano udito la parola credettero; e il numero degli uomini raggiunse circa i cinquemila.

But many of those who heard the message believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on Jesus as the Christ). And their number grew and came to about 5, 000.

5 I l giorno dopo i capi, gli anziani e gli scribi si radunarono in Gerusalemme,

Then on the following day, their magistrates and elders and scribes were assembled in Jerusalem,

6 i nsieme con Anna, sommo sacerdote, e con Caiafa, Giovanni, Alessandro e tutti quelli che appartenevano alla parentela dei sommi sacerdoti.

Including Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander and all others who belonged to the high priestly relationship.

7 E , fatti comparire là in mezzo Pietro e Giovanni, domandarono loro: «Con quale potere o in nome di chi avete fatto questo?».

And they set the men in their midst and repeatedly demanded, By what sort of power or by what kind of authority did you do this ?

8 A llora Pietro, ripieno di Spirito Santo, disse loro: «Capi del popolo e anziani d'Israele,

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers of the people and members of the council (the Sanhedrin),

9 s e oggi noi siamo giudicati intorno ad un beneficio fatto a un uomo infermo, per sapere come egli è stato guarito,

If we are being put on trial today and examined concerning a good deed done to benefit a feeble (helpless) cripple, by what means this man has been restored to health,

10 s ia noto a tutti voi e a tutto il popolo d'Israele che ciò è stato fatto nel nome di Gesú Cristo il Nazareno, che voi avete crocifisso e che Dio ha risuscitato dai morti; in virtú di lui compare davanti a voi quest'uomo completamente guarito.

Let it be known and understood by all of you, and by the whole house of Israel, that in the name and through the power and authority of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Whom you crucified, Whom God raised from the dead, in Him and by means of Him this man is standing here before you well and sound in body.

11 Q uesti è la pietra che è stata da voi edificatori rigettata e che è divenuta la testata d'angolo,

This is the Stone which was despised and rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the Head of the corner.

12 E in nessun altro vi è la salvezza, poiché non c'è alcun altro nome sotto il cielo che sia dato agli uomini, per mezzo del quale dobbiamo essere salvati».

And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved.

13 O r essi, vista la franchezza di Pietro e di Giovanni e avendo capito che erano uomini illetterati e senza istruzione, si meravigliavano e riconoscevano che erano stati con Gesú.

Now when they saw the boldness and unfettered eloquence of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and untrained in the schools, they marveled; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

14 V edendo poi in piedi accanto a loro l'uomo che era stato guarito, non potevano dire nulla contro.

And since they saw the man who had been cured standing there beside them, they could not contradict the fact or say anything in opposition.

15 E , dopo aver comandato loro di uscire dal sinedrio, si consultarono fra loro,

But having ordered to go aside out of the council, they conferred (debated) among themselves,

16 d icendo: «Che faremo a questi uomini? Perché è noto a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme che un evidente miracolo è stato fatto da loro, e noi non lo possiamo negare;

Saying, What are we to do with these men? For that an extraordinary miracle has been performed by (through) them is plain to all the residents of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.

17 m a affinché questo non si divulghi maggiormente fra il popolo, imponiamo loro con severe minacce di non parlare più a nessun uomo in questo nome».

But in order that it may not spread further among the people and the nation, let us warn and forbid them with a stern threat to speak any more to anyone in this name.

18 E , chiamatili, comandarono loro di non parlare affatto, né di insegnare nel nome di Gesú,

they summoned them and imperatively instructed them not to converse in any way or teach at all in or about the name of Jesus.

19 M a Pietro e Giovanni, rispondendo loro, dissero: «Giudicate voi, se è giusto davanti a Dio ubbidire a voi, piuttosto che a Dio.

But Peter and John replied to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you and obey you rather than God, you must decide (judge).

20 P oiché, quanto a noi, non possiamo non parlare delle cose che abbiamo visto e udito».

But we cannot help telling what we have seen and heard.

21 E d essi, minacciatili di nuovo, li lasciarono andare, non trovando alcun modo per poterli punire, a motivo del popolo, poiché tutti glorificavano Dio per ciò che era accaduto.

Then when had further threatened them, they let them go, not seeing how they could secure a conviction against them because of the people; for everybody was praising and glorifying God for what had occurred.

22 I nfatti l'uomo, in cui si era prodotta quella guarigione miracolosa, aveva piú di quarant'anni.

For the man on whom this sign (miracle) of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

23 Q uando furono rilasciati, ritornarono dai loro e riferirono tutte le cose che i capi dei sacerdoti e gli anziani avevano loro detto.

After they were permitted to go, returned to their own and told all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.

24 A ll'udire ciò, alzarono all'unanimità la voce a Dio e dissero: «Signore, tu sei il Dio che hai fatto il cielo, la terra, il mare e tutte le cose che sono in essi,

And when they heard it, lifted their voices together with one united mind to God and said, O Sovereign Lord, You are He Who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything that is in them,

25 e che mediante lo Spirito Santo hai detto, per bocca di Davide tuo servo: "Perché si sono adirate le genti e i popoli hanno macchinato cose vane?

Who by the mouth of our forefather David, Your servant and child, said through the Holy Spirit, Why did the heathen (Gentiles) become wanton and insolent and rage, and the people imagine and study and plan vain (fruitless) things ?

26 I re della terra si sono sollevati e i principi si sono radunati insieme contro il Signore e contro il suo Cristo

The kings of the earth took their stand in array and the rulers were assembled and combined together against the Lord and against His Anointed (Christ, the Messiah).

27 P oiché proprio contro il tuo santo Figlio Gesú, che tu hai unto, si sono radunati Erode e Ponzio Pilato con i gentili e il popolo d'Israele,

For in this city there actually met and plotted together against Your holy Child and Servant Jesus, Whom You consecrated by anointing, both Herod and Pontius Pilate with the Gentiles and peoples of Israel,

28 p er fare tutte le cose che la tua mano e il tuo consiglio avevano prestabilito che avvenissero.

To carry out all that Your hand and Your will and purpose had predestined (predetermined) should occur.

29 E d ora, Signore, considera le loro minacce e concedi ai tuoi servi di annunziare la tua parola con ogni franchezza,

And now, Lord, observe their threats and grant to Your bond servants to declare Your message fearlessly,

30 s tendendo la tua mano per guarire e perché si compiano segni e prodigi nel nome del tuo santo Figlio Gesú».

While You stretch out Your hand to cure and to perform signs and wonders through the authority and by the power of the name of Your holy Child and Servant Jesus.

31 E , dopo che ebbero pregato, il luogo dove erano radunati tremò; e furono tutti ripieni di Spirito Santo, e annunziavano la parola di Dio con franchezza.

And when they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continued to speak the Word of God with freedom and boldness and courage.

32 E il gran numero di coloro che avevano creduto era di un sol cuore e di una sola anima; nessuno diceva esser suo quello che aveva, ma tutte le cose erano in comune fra di loro.

Now the company of believers was of one heart and soul, and not one of them claimed that anything which he possessed was his own, but everything they had was in common and for the use of all.

33 E gli apostoli con grande potenza rendevano testimonianza della risurrezione del Signore Gesú; e grande grazia era sopra tutti loro.

And with great strength and ability and power the apostles delivered their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace (loving-kindness and favor and goodwill) rested richly upon them all.

34 I nfatti non vi era alcun bisognoso fra di loro, perché tutti coloro che possedevano poderi o case li vendevano e portavano il ricavato delle cose vendute,

Nor was there a destitute or needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses proceeded to sell them, and one by one they brought (gave back) the amount received from the sales

35 e lo deponevano ai piedi degli apostoli, poi veniva distribuito a ciascuno, secondo il suo particolare bisogno.

And laid it at the feet of the apostles (special messengers). Then distribution was made according as anyone had need.

36 O r Iose, soprannominato dagli apostoli Barnaba (che significa: "figlio di consolazione"), levita, originario di Cipro.

Now Joseph, a Levite and native of Cyprus who was surnamed Barnabas by the apostles, which interpreted means Son of Encouragement,

37 a vendo un campo lo vendette e portò il ricavato e lo depose ai piedi degli apostoli.

Sold a field which belonged to him and brought the sum of money and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
