1 « Quando avrei voluto guarire Israele, allora si è scoperta l'iniquità di Efraim e la malvagità di Samaria, perché praticano la falsità: il ladro entra, una banda di briganti fa incursioni fuori.

When I would heal Israel, then Ephraim’s guilt is uncovered, and the wickedness of Samaria; how they practice falsehood, and the thief enters and the troop of bandits ravage and raid without.

2 E ssi non considerano dentro di loro che io ricordo tutta la loro malvagità. Ora le loro azioni li circondano da ogni lato; esse stanno davanti alla mia faccia.

But they do not consider and say to their minds and hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own doings surround and entangle them; they are before My face.

3 C on le loro malvagità rallegrano il re e i capi con le loro menzogne.

They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.

4 S ono tutti degli adulteri, come un forno riscaldato dal fornaio, che cessa di attizzare il fuoco dopo aver impastato la farina finché sia lievitata.

They are all adulterers; their passion smolders like heat of an oven when the baker ceases to stir the fire from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.

5 N el giorno del nostro re i capi lo hanno fatto ammalare con il calore del vino il re ha steso la mano agli schernitori.

On the day of our king the princes made themselves and him sick with the heat of wine; stretched out his hand with scoffers and lawless men.

6 M entre stanno in agguato, essi preparano il loro cuore come un forno; il loro fornaio dorme tutta la notte, e al mattino il forno arde come un fuoco divampante.

For they have made ready their heart, and their mind burns like an oven while they lie in wait. Their anger smolders all night; in the morning it blazes forth as a flaming fire.

7 T utti sono ardenti come un forno e divorano i loro giudici; tutti i loro re sono caduti, ma nessuno di loro mi invoca.

They are all hot as an oven and devour their judges; all their kings are fallen; there is none among them who calls to Me.

8 E fraim si mescola con i popoli, Efraim è una focaccia non rivoltata.

Ephraim mixes himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

9 G li stranieri divorano la sua forza, ma egli non se ne accorge; sí, ha dei capelli grigi sparsi qua e là, ma non se ne accorge.

Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knows it not; yes, gray hairs are sprinkled here and there upon him, and he does not know it.

10 L 'orgoglio d'Israele testimonia contro di lui, ma essi non tornano all'Eterno, il loro DIO, né lo cercano nonostante tutto questo.

And the pride of Israel testifies against him and to his face. But they do not return to the Lord their God, nor seek nor inquire of nor require Him in spite of all this.

11 E fraim è una colomba stupida, senza intendimento; essi invocano l'Egitto, vanno in Assiria.

Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart or understanding; they call to Egypt; they go to Assyria.

12 M entre andranno, stenderò su di loro la mia rete e li farò cadere come gli uccelli del cielo; li castigherò, come è stato annunciato alla loro assemblea.

As they go, I will spread My net over them; I will bring them down like birds of the heavens. I will chastise them according to the announcement to their congregation.

13 G uai a loro, perché si sono allontanati da me! Distruzione per loro, perché si sono ribellati, contro di me! Io vorrei riscattarli, ma essi dicono menzogne contro di me.

Woe to them, for they have wandered from Me! Destruction to them, because they have rebelled and trespassed against Me! Though I would redeem them, yet they have spoken lies against Me.

14 E ssi non gridano a me con il loro cuore, ma si lamentano sui loro letti. Si radunano insieme per il grano e il vino e si ribellano contro di me.

They do not cry to Me from their heart, but they wail upon their beds; they gash and distress and assemble themselves for grain and new wine; they rebel against Me.

15 A nche se li ho castigati e ho fortificato le loro braccia, essi macchinano del male contro di me.

Although I have chastened them and trained and strengthened their arms, yet they think and devise evil against Me.

16 E ssi tornano, ma non all'Altissimo; sono come un arco fallace; i loro capi cadranno di spada per il furore della loro lingua; questo tornerà a loro derisione nel paese d'Egitto».

They turn back, shift, or change, but not upwards. They are like a deceitful bow; their princes shall fall by the sword for the insolence and rage of their tongue. This shall be their derision and scorning in the land of Egypt.
