1 W enn ich Israel heilen will, so findet sich erst die Sünde Ephraims und die Bosheit Samarias, wie sie Lügen treiben und Diebe einsteigen und Räuber draußen plündern;

When I would heal Israel, then Ephraim’s guilt is uncovered, and the wickedness of Samaria; how they practice falsehood, and the thief enters and the troop of bandits ravage and raid without.

2 d ennoch wollen sie nicht merken, daß ich alle ihre Bosheit merke. Ich sehe aber ihr Wesen wohl, das sie allenthalben treiben.

But they do not consider and say to their minds and hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own doings surround and entangle them; they are before My face.

3 S ie vertrösten den König durch ihre Bosheit und die Fürsten durch ihre Lügen;

They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.

4 u nd sind allesamt Ehebrecher gleichwie ein Backofen, den der Bäcker heizt, wenn er hat ausgeknetet und läßt den Teig durchsäuern und aufgehen.

They are all adulterers; their passion smolders like heat of an oven when the baker ceases to stir the fire from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.

5 H eute ist unsers Königs Fest sprechen sie, da fangen die Fürsten an, vom Wein toll zu werden; so zieht er die Spötter zu sich.

On the day of our king the princes made themselves and him sick with the heat of wine; stretched out his hand with scoffers and lawless men.

6 D enn ihr Herz ist in heißer Andacht wie ein Backofen, wenn sie opfern und die Leute betrügen; ihr Bäcker schläft die ganze Nacht, und des Morgens brennt er lichterloh.

For they have made ready their heart, and their mind burns like an oven while they lie in wait. Their anger smolders all night; in the morning it blazes forth as a flaming fire.

7 A llesamt sind sie so heißer Andacht wie ein Backofen, also daß ihre Richter aufgefressen werden und alle ihre Könige fallen; und ist keiner unter ihnen, der mich anrufe.

They are all hot as an oven and devour their judges; all their kings are fallen; there is none among them who calls to Me.

8 E phraim mengt sich unter die Völker; Ephraim ist wie ein Kuchen, den niemand umwendet.

Ephraim mixes himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

9 F remde fressen seine Kraft, doch will er's nicht merken; er hat auch graue Haare gekriegt, doch will er's nicht merken.

Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knows it not; yes, gray hairs are sprinkled here and there upon him, and he does not know it.

10 U nd die Hoffart Israels zeugt wider sie ins Angesicht; dennoch bekehren sie sich nicht zum HERRN, ihrem Gott, fragen auch nicht nach ihm in diesem allem.

And the pride of Israel testifies against him and to his face. But they do not return to the Lord their God, nor seek nor inquire of nor require Him in spite of all this.

11 D enn Ephraim ist wie eine verlockte Taube, die nichts merken will. Jetzt rufen sie Ägypten an, dann laufen sie zu Assur.

Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart or understanding; they call to Egypt; they go to Assyria.

12 A ber indem sie hin und her laufen, will ich mein Netz über sie werfen und sie herunterholen wie die Vögel unter dem Himmel; ich will sie strafen, wie man predigt in ihrer Versammlung.

As they go, I will spread My net over them; I will bring them down like birds of the heavens. I will chastise them according to the announcement to their congregation.

13 W eh ihnen, daß sie von mir weichen! Sie müssen verstört werden; denn sie sind von mir abtrünnig geworden! Ich wollte sie wohl erlösen, wenn sie nicht wider mich Lügen lehrten.

Woe to them, for they have wandered from Me! Destruction to them, because they have rebelled and trespassed against Me! Though I would redeem them, yet they have spoken lies against Me.

14 S o rufen sie mich auch nicht an von Herzen, sondern Heulen auf ihren Lagern. Sie sammeln sich um Korn und Mosts willen und sind mir ungehorsam.

They do not cry to Me from their heart, but they wail upon their beds; they gash and distress and assemble themselves for grain and new wine; they rebel against Me.

15 I ch lehre sie und stärke ihren Arm; aber sie denken Böses von mir.

Although I have chastened them and trained and strengthened their arms, yet they think and devise evil against Me.

16 S ie bekehren sich, aber nicht recht, sondern sind wie ein falscher Bogen. Darum werden ihre Fürsten durchs Schwert fallen; ihr Drohen soll in Ägyptenland zum Spott werden.

They turn back, shift, or change, but not upwards. They are like a deceitful bow; their princes shall fall by the sword for the insolence and rage of their tongue. This shall be their derision and scorning in the land of Egypt.
