I will sing of the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord forever; with my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness from generation to generation.

2 u nd sage also: Daß eine ewige Gnade wird aufgehen, und du wirst deine Wahrheit treulich halten im Himmel.

For I have said, Mercy and loving-kindness shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness will You establish in the very heavens.

3 " Ich habe einen Bund gemacht mit meinem Auserwählten; ich habe David, meinem Knechte, geschworen:

I have made a covenant with My chosen one, I have sworn to David My servant,

4 I ch will deinen Samen bestätigen ewiglich und deinen Stuhl bauen für und für." (Sela.)

Your Seed I will establish forever, and I will build up your throne for all generations. Selah!

5 U nd die Himmel werden, HERR, deine Wunder preisen und deine Wahrheit in der Gemeinde der Heiligen.

Let heaven (the angels) praise Your wonders, O Lord, Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones (the holy angels).

6 D enn wer mag in den Wolken dem HERRN gleich gelten, und gleich sein unter den Kindern Gottes dem HERRN?

For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord? Who among the mighty can be likened to the Lord,

7 G ott ist sehr mächtig in der Versammlung der Heiligen und wunderbar über alle, die um ihn sind.

A God greatly feared and revered in the council of the holy (angelic) ones, and to be feared and worshipfully revered above all those who are round about Him?

8 H ERR, Gott Zebaoth, wer ist wie du ein mächtiger Gott? Und deine Wahrheit ist um dich her.

O Lord God of hosts, who is a mighty one like unto You, O Lord? And Your faithfulness is round about You.

9 D u herrschest über das ungestüme Meer; du stillest seine Wellen, wenn sie sich erheben.

You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves arise, You still them.

10 D u schlägst Rahab zu Tod; du zerstreust deine Feinde mit deinem starken Arm.

You have broken Rahab (Egypt) in pieces; with Your mighty arm You have scattered Your enemies.

11 H immel und Erde ist dein; du hast gegründet den Erdboden und was darinnen ist.

The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; the world and all that is in it, You have founded them.

12 M itternacht und Mittag hast du geschaffen; Thabor und Hermon jauchzen in deinem Namen.

The north and the south, You have created them; Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon joyously praise Your name.

13 D u hast einen gewaltigen Arm; stark ist deine Hand, und hoch ist deine Rechte.

You have a mighty arm; strong is Your hand, Your right hand is soaring high.

14 G erechtigkeit und Gericht ist deines Stuhles Festung; Gnade und Wahrheit sind vor deinem Angesicht.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and loving-kindness and truth go before Your face.

15 W ohl dem Volk, das jauchzen kann! HERR, sie werden im Licht deines Antlitzes wandeln;

Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are the people who know the joyful sound; they walk, O Lord, in the light and favor of Your countenance!

16 s ie werden über deinen Namen täglich fröhlich sein und in deiner Gerechtigkeit herrlich sein.

In Your name they rejoice all the day, and in Your righteousness they are exalted.

17 D enn du bist der Ruhm ihrer Stärke, und durch dein Gnade wirst du unser Horn erhöhen.

For You are the glory of their strength, and by Your favor our horn is exalted and we walk with uplifted faces!

18 D enn des HERRN ist unser Schild, und des Heiligen in Israel ist unser König.

For our shield belongs to the Lord, and our king to the Holy One of Israel.

19 D azumal redetest du im Gesicht zu deinem Heiligen und sprachst: "Ich habe einen Helden erweckt, der helfen soll; ich habe erhöht einen Auserwählten aus dem Volk.

Once You spoke in a vision to Your devoted ones and said, I have endowed one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from among the people.

20 I ch habe gefunden meinen Knecht David; ich habe ihn gesalbt mit meinem heiligen Öl.

I have found David My servant; with My holy oil have I anointed him,

21 M eine Hand soll ihn erhalten und mein Arm soll ihn stärken.

With whom My hand shall be established and ever abide; My arm also shall strengthen him.

22 D ie Feinde sollen ihn nicht überwältigen, und die Ungerechten sollen ihn nicht dämpfen;

The enemy shall not exact from him or do him violence or outwit him, nor shall the wicked afflict and humble him.

23 s ondern ich will seine Widersacher schlagen vor ihm her, und die ihn hassen, will ich plagen;

I will beat down his foes before his face and smite those who hate him.

24 a ber meine Wahrheit und Gnade soll bei ihm sein, und sein Horn soll in meinem Namen erhoben werden.

My faithfulness and My mercy and loving-kindness shall be with him, and in My name shall his horn be exalted.

25 I ch will seine Hand über das Meer stellen und seine Rechte über die Wasser.

I will set his hand in control also on the Sea, and his right hand on the rivers.

26 E r wird mich nennen also: Du bist mein Vater, mein Gott und Hort, der mir hilft.

He shall cry to Me, You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation!

27 U nd ich will ihn zum ersten Sohn machen, allerhöchst unter den Königen auf Erden.

Also I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.

28 I ch will ihm ewiglich bewahren meine Gnade, und mein Bund soll ihm fest bleiben.

My mercy and loving-kindness will I keep for him forevermore, and My covenant shall stand fast and be faithful with him.

29 I ch will ihm ewiglich Samen geben und seinen Stuhl, solange der Himmel währt, erhalten.

His Offspring also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

30 W o aber seine Kinder mein Gesetz verlassen und in meinen Rechten nicht wandeln,

If his children forsake My law and walk not in My ordinances,

31 s o sie meine Ordnungen entheiligen und meine Gebote nicht halten,

If they break or profane My statutes and keep not My commandments,

32 s o will ich ihre Sünde mit der Rute heimsuchen und ihre Missetat mit Plagen;

Then will I punish their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

33 a ber meine Gnade will ich nicht von ihm wenden und meine Wahrheit nicht lassen trügen.

Nevertheless, My loving-kindness will I not break off from him, nor allow My faithfulness to fail.

34 I ch will meinen Bund nicht entheiligen, und nicht ändern, was aus meinem Munde gegangen ist.

My covenant will I not break or profane, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips.

35 I ch habe einmal geschworen bei meiner Heiligkeit, ich will David nicht lügen:

Once have I sworn by My holiness, which cannot be violated; I will not lie to David:

36 S ein Same soll ewig sein und sein Stuhl vor mir wie die Sonne;

His Offspring shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.

37 w ie der Mond soll er ewiglich erhalten sein, und gleich wie der Zeuge in den Wolken gewiß sein." (Sela.)

It shall be established forever as the moon, the faithful witness in the heavens. Selah!

38 A ber nun verstößest du und verwirfst und zürnest mit deinem Gesalbten.

But You have cast off and rejected; You have been full of wrath against Your anointed.

39 D u zerstörst den Bund deines Knechtes und trittst sein Krone zu Boden.

You have despised and loathed and renounced the covenant with Your servant; You have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

40 D u zerreißest alle seine Mauern und lässest seine Festen zerbrechen.

You have broken down all his hedges and his walls; You have brought his strongholds to ruin.

41 E s berauben ihn alle, die vorübergehen; er ist seinen Nachbarn ein Spott geworden.

All who pass along the road spoil and rob him; he has become the scorn and reproach of his neighbors.

42 D u erhöhest die Rechte seiner Widersacher und erfreuest alle seine Feinde.

You have exalted the right hand of his foes; You have made all his enemies rejoice.

43 A uch hast du die Kraft seines Schwertes weggenommen und lässest ihn nicht siegen im Streit.

Moreover, You have turned back the edge of his sword and have not made him to stand in battle.

44 D u zerstörst seine Reinigkeit und wirfst seinen Stuhl zu Boden.

You have made his glory and splendor to cease and have hurled to the ground his throne.

45 D u verkürzest die Zeit seiner Jugend und bedeckest ihn mit Hohn. (Sela.)

The days of his youth have You shortened; You have covered him with shame. Selah!

46 H ERR, wie lange willst du dich so gar verbergen und deinen Grimm wie Feuer brennen lassen?

How long, O Lord? Will You hide Yourself forever? How long shall Your wrath burn like fire?

47 G edenke, wie kurz mein Leben ist. Warum willst du alle Menschen umsonst geschaffen haben?

O remember how short my time is and what a mere fleeting life mine is. For what emptiness, falsity, futility, and frailty You have created all men!

48 W o ist jemand, der da lebt und den Tod nicht sähe? der seine Seele errette aus des Todes Hand? (Sela.)

What man can live and shall not see death, or can deliver himself from the hand of Sheol (the place of the dead)? Selah!

49 H ERR, wo ist deine vorige Gnade, die du David geschworen hast in deiner Wahrheit?

Lord, where are Your former loving-kindnesses, which You swore to David in Your faithfulness?

50 G edenke, HERR, an die Schmach deiner Knechte, die ich trage in meinem Schoß von so vielen Völkern allen,

Remember, Lord, and earnestly imprint the reproach of Your servants, scorned and insulted, how I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many and mighty peoples,

51 m it der, HERR, deine Feinde schmähen, mit der sie schmähen die Fußtapfen deines Gesalbten.

With which Your enemies have taunted, O Lord, with which they have mocked the footsteps of Your anointed.

52 G elobt sei der HERR ewiglich! Amen, amen.
