1 D a rief Isaak seinen Sohn Jakob und segnete ihn und gebot ihm und sprach zu ihm: Nimm nicht ein Weib von den Töchtern Kanaans;

So Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and commanded him, You shall not marry one of the women of Canaan.

2 s ondern mache dich auf und ziehe nach Mesopotamien zum Hause Bethuels, des Vaters deiner Mutter, und nimm dir ein Weib daselbst von den Töchtern Labans, des Bruders deiner Mutter.

Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father, and take from there as a wife one of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.

3 A ber der allmächtige Gott segne dich und mache dich fruchtbar und mehre dich, daß du werdest ein Haufe Völker,

May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you until you become a group of peoples.

4 u nd gebe dir den Segen Abrahams, dir und deinem Samen mit dir, daß du besitzest das Land, darin du ein Fremdling bist, das Gott Abraham gegeben hat.

May He give the blessing Abraham to you and your descendants with you, that you may inherit the land He gave to Abraham, in which you are a sojourner.

5 A lso fertigte Isaak den Jakob ab, daß er nach Mesopotamien zog zu Laban, Bethuels Sohn, in Syrien, dem Bruder Rebekkas, seiner und Esaus Mutter.

Thus Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Padan-aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob and Esau’s mother.

6 A ls nun Esau sah, daß Isaak Jakob gesegnet hatte und abgefertigt nach Mesopotamien, daß er daselbst ein Weib nähme, und daß er, indem er ihn segnete, ihm gebot und sprach: Du sollst nicht ein Weib nehmen von den Töchtern Kanaans,

Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Padan-aram to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him, he gave him a charge, saying, You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

7 u nd daß Jakob seinem Vater und seiner Mutter gehorchte und nach Mesopotamien zog,

And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother and had gone to Padan-aram.

8 s ah auch, daß Isaak, sein Vater, nicht gerne sah die Töchter Kanaans:

Also Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac his father.

9 g ing er hin zu Ismael und nahm zu den Weibern, die er zuvor hatte, Mahalath, die Tochter Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, die Schwester Nebajoths, zum Weibe.

So Esau went to Ishmael and took to be his wife, to the wives he had, Mahalath daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth.

10 A ber Jakob zog aus von Beer-Seba und reiste gen Haran

And Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran.

11 u nd kam an einen Ort, da blieb er über Nacht; denn die Sonne war untergegangen. Und er nahm einen Stein des Orts und legte ihn zu seinen Häupten und legte sich an dem Ort schlafen.

And he came to a certain place and stayed there overnight, because the sun was set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down there to sleep.

12 U nd ihm träumte; und siehe, eine Leiter stand auf der Erde, die rührte mit der Spitze an den Himmel, und siehe, die Engel Gottes stiegen daran auf und nieder;

And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it!

13 u nd der HERR stand obendarauf und sprach: Ich bin der HERR, Abrahams, deines Vaters, Gott und Isaaks Gott; das Land darauf du liegst, will ich dir und deinem Samen geben.

And behold, the Lord stood over and beside him and said, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; I will give to you and to your descendants the land on which you are lying.

14 U nd dein Same soll werden wie der Staub auf Erden, und du sollst ausgebreitet werden gegen Abend, Morgen, Mitternacht und Mittag; und durch dich und deinen Samen sollen alle Geschlechter auf Erden gesegnet werden.

And your offspring shall be as the dust or sand of the ground, and you shall spread abroad to the west and the east and the north and the south; and by you and your Offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed and bless themselves.

15 U nd siehe, ich bin mit dir und will dich behüten, wo du hin ziehst, und will dich wieder herbringen in dies Land. Denn ich will dich nicht lassen, bis daß ich tue alles, was ich dir geredet habe.

And behold, I am with you and will keep (watch over you with care, take notice of) you wherever you may go, and I will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done all of which I have told you.

16 D a nun Jakob von seinem Schlaf aufwachte, sprach er: Gewiß ist der HERR an diesem Ort, und ich wußte es nicht;

And Jacob awoke from his sleep and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place and I did not know it.

17 u nd fürchtete sich und sprach: Wie heilig ist diese Stätte! Hier ist nichts anderes als Gottes Haus, und hier ist die Pforte des Himmels.

He was afraid and said, How to be feared and reverenced is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gateway to heaven!

18 U nd Jakob stand des Morgens früh auf und nahm den Stein, den er zu seinen Häupten gelegt hatte, und richtete ihn auf zu einem Mal und goß Öl obendarauf

And Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone he had put under his head, and he set it up for a pillar (a monument to the vision in his dream), and he poured oil on its top.

19 u nd hieß die Stätte Beth-El; zuvor aber hieß die Stadt Lus.

And he named that place Bethel; but the name of that city was Luz at first.

20 U nd Jakob tat ein Gelübde und sprach: So Gott wird mit mir sein und mich behüten auf dem Wege, den ich reise, und mir Brot zu essen geben und Kleider anzuziehen

Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me food to eat and clothing to wear,

21 u nd mich in Frieden wieder heim zu meinem Vater bringen, so soll der HERR mein Gott sein;

So that I may come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God;

22 u nd dieser Stein, den ich aufgerichtet habe zu einem Mal, soll ein Gotteshaus werden; und von allem, was du mir gibst, will ich dir den Zehnten geben.

And this stone which I have set up as a pillar (monument) shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will give the tenth to You.
