1 ( Ein Psalm Davids.) Von Gnade und Recht will ich singen und dir, HERR, lobsagen.

I will sing of mercy and loving-kindness and justice; to You, O Lord, will I sing.

2 I ch handle vorsichtig und redlich bei denen, die mir zugehören, und wandle treulich in meinem Hause.

I will behave myself wisely and give heed to the blameless way—O when will You come to me? I will walk within my house in integrity and with a blameless heart.

3 I ch nehme mir keine böse Sache vor; ich hasse den Übeltäter und lasse ihn nicht bei mir bleiben.

I will set no base or wicked thing before my eyes. I hate the work of them who turn aside; it shall not grasp hold of me.

4 E in verkehrtes Herz muß von mir weichen; den Bösen leide ich nicht.

A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil person or thing.

5 D er seinen Nächsten heimlich verleumdet, den vertilge ich; ich mag den nicht, der stolze Gebärde und hohen Mut hat.

Whoso privily slanders his neighbor, him will I cut off; he who has a haughty look and a proud and arrogant heart I cannot and I will not tolerate.

6 M eine Augen sehen nach den Treuen im Lande, daß sie bei mir wohnen; und habe gerne fromme Diener.

My eyes shall upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks blamelessly, he shall minister to me.

7 F alsche Leute halte ich nicht in meinem Hause; die Lügner gedeihen bei mir nicht.

He who works deceit shall not dwell in my house; he who tells lies shall not continue in my presence.

8 J eden Morgen will ich vertilgen alle Gottlosen im Lande, daß ich alle Übeltäter ausrotte aus der Stadt des HERRN.

Morning after morning I will root up all the wicked in the land, that I may eliminate all the evildoers from the city of the Lord.
