1 H e that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust.

I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I trust!

3 F or he will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, And from the deadly pestilence.

For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

4 H e will cover thee with his pinions, And under his wings shalt thou take refuge: His truth is a shield and a buckler.

He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

5 T hou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, Nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,

6 F or the pestilence that walketh in darkness, Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But it shall not come nigh thee.

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.

8 O nly with thine eyes shalt thou behold, And see the reward of the wicked.

Only a spectator shall you be as you witness the reward of the wicked.

9 F or thou, O Jehovah, art my refuge! Thou hast made the Most High thy habitation;

Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,

10 T here shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent.

There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.

11 F or he will give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all thy ways.

For He will give His angels charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways.

12 T hey shall bear thee up in their hands, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13 T hou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: The young lion and the serpent shalt thou trample under foot.

You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot.

14 B ecause he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name.

15 H e shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honor him.

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

16 W ith long life will I satisfy him, And show him my salvation.
