1 A nd Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
And the Lord said to Moses,
2 M ake thee two trumpets of silver; of beaten work shalt thou make them: and thou shalt use them for the calling of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps.
Make two trumpets of silver; of hammered or turned work you shall make them, that you may use them to call the congregation and for breaking camp.
3 A nd when they shall blow them, all the congregation shall gather themselves unto thee at the door of the tent of meeting.
When they both are blown, all the congregation shall assemble before you at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
4 A nd if they blow but one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.
And if one blast on a single trumpet is blown, then the princes or leaders, heads of the tribes of Israel, shall gather themselves to you.
5 A nd when ye blow an alarm, the camps that lie on the east side shall take their journey.
When you blow an alarm, the camps on the east side shall set out.
6 A nd when ye blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys.
When you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps on the south side shall set out. An alarm shall be blown whenever they are to set out on their journeys.
7 B ut when the assembly is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.
When the congregation is to be assembled, you shall blow, but not the blast of an alarm.
8 A nd the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and they shall be to you for a statute for ever throughout your generations.
And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets, and the trumpets shall be to you for a perpetual statute throughout your generations.
9 A nd when ye go to war in your land against the adversary that oppresseth you, then ye shall sound an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before Jehovah your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.
When you go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresses you, then blow an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the Lord your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies.
10 A lso in the day of your gladness, and in your set feasts, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow the trumpets over your burnt-offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace-offerings; and they shall be to you for a memorial before your God: I am Jehovah your God.
Also in the day of rejoicing, and in your set feasts, and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and your peace offerings; thus they may be a remembrance before your God. I am the Lord your God.
11 A nd it came to pass in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the testimony.
On the twentieth day of the second month in the second year, the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the Testimony,
12 A nd the children of Israel set forward according to their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud abode in the wilderness of Paran.
And the Israelites took their journey by stages out of the Wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud rested in the Wilderness of Paran.
13 A nd they first took their journey according to the commandment of Jehovah by Moses.
When the journey was to begin, at the command of the Lord through Moses,
14 A nd in the first place the standard of the camp of the children of Judah set forward according to their hosts: and over his host was Nahshon the son of Amminadab.
In the first place went the standard of the camp of the sons of Judah by their companies; and over their host was Nahshon son of Amminadab.
15 A nd over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was Nethanel the son of Zuar.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Issachar was Nethanel son of Zuar.
16 A nd over the host of the tribe of the children of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab son of Helon.
17 A nd the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who bare the tabernacle, set forward.
When the tabernacle was taken down, the sons of Gershon and Merari, bearing on their shoulders, set out.
18 A nd the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their hosts: and over his host was Elizur the son of Shedeur.
The standard of the camp of Reuben set forward by their companies; and over Reuben’s host was Elizur son of Shedeur.
19 A nd over the host of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Simeon was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.
20 A nd over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph son of Deuel.
21 A nd the Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary: and the others did set up the tabernacle against their coming.
Then the Kohathites set forward, bearing the holy things, and the tabernacle was set up before they arrived.
22 A nd the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their hosts: and over his host was Elishama the son of Ammihud.
And the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim set forward according to their companies; and over Ephraim’s host was Elishama son of Ammihud.
23 A nd over the host of the tribe of the children of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.
Over the host of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.
24 A nd over the host of the tribe of the children of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin was Abidan son of Gideoni.
25 A nd the standard of the camp of the children of Dan, which was the rearward of all the camps, set forward according to their hosts: and over his host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.
Then the standard of the camp of the sons of Dan, which was the rear guard of all the camps, set forward according to their companies; and over Dan’s host was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
26 A nd over the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ochran.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Asher was Pagiel son of Ochran.
27 A nd over the host of the tribe of the children of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali was Ahira son of Enan.
28 T hus were the journeyings of the children of Israel according to their hosts; and they set forward.
This was the Israelites’ order of march by their hosts when they set out.
29 A nd Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, We are journeying unto the place of which Jehovah said, I will give it you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good; for Jehovah hath spoken good concerning Israel.
And Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, We are journeying to the place of which the Lord said, I will give it to you. Come with us, and we will do you good, for the Lord has promised good concerning Israel.
30 A nd he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.
And Hobab said to him, I will not go; I will depart to my own land and to my family.
31 A nd he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be to us instead of eyes.
And Moses said, Do not leave us, I pray you; for you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you will serve as eyes for us.
32 A nd it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what good soever Jehovah shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.
And if you will go with us, it shall be that whatever good the Lord does to us, the same we will do to you.
33 A nd they set forward from the mount of Jehovah three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting-place for them.
They departed from the mountain of the Lord three days’ journey; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them during the three days’ journey to seek out a resting-place for them.
34 A nd the cloud of Jehovah was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp.
The cloud of the Lord was over them by day when they went forward from the camp.
35 A nd it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, O Jehovah, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.
Whenever the ark set out, Moses said, Rise up, Lord; let Your enemies be scattered; and let those who hate You flee before You.
36 A nd when it rested, he said, Return, O Jehovah, unto the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel.
And when it rested, he said, Return, O Lord, to the ten thousand thousands in Israel.
