1 A gain, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 S on of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this selfsame day: the king of Babylon drew close unto Jerusalem this selfsame day.

Son of man, record the name of the day, even of this same day; the king of Babylon set himself against and assailed Jerusalem this same day.

3 A nd utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Set on the caldron, set it on, and also pour water into it:

And utter a parable against the rebellious house and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Put on a pot; put it on and also pour water into it.

4 g ather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.

Put into it the pieces, all the good pieces, the thigh and the shoulder; fill it with the choice of the bones.

5 T ake the choice of the flock, and also a pile of wood for the bones under the caldron; make it boil well; yea, let the bones thereof be boiled in the midst of it.

Take the choicest of the flock and burn also the unused bones under it, and make it boil well and seethe its bones in.

6 W herefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city, to the caldron whose rust is therein, and whose rust is not gone out of it! take out of it piece after piece; No lot is fallen upon it.

Therefore thus says the Lord God: Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose rust and scum are in it and whose rust and scum have not gone out of it! Take out of it piece by piece, without making any choice.

7 F or her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the bare rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust.

For the blood she has shed remains in the midst of her; she put it upon the bare rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.

8 T hat it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have set her blood upon the bare rock, that it should not be covered.

That it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have put her blood upon the bare rock, that it would not be covered.

9 T herefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great.

Therefore thus says the Lord God: Woe to the bloodguilty city! Also I will make the pile great.

10 H eap on the wood, make the fire hot, boil well the flesh, and make thick the broth, and let the bones be burned.

Heap on wood, kindle the fire and make it hot, boil well the meat and mix the spices, pour out the broth when thick, and let the bones be burned up.

11 T hen set it empty upon the coals thereof, that it may be hot, and the brass thereof may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the rust of it may be consumed.

Then set back empty upon the coals, that the bronze of it may be hot and may glow and the filthiness of it may be melted in it and the rust and scum of it may be consumed.

12 S he hath wearied herself with toil; yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her; her rust goeth not forth by fire.

She has wearied herself and Me with toil; yet her great rust and scum go not forth out of her, for however hotly the fire burns, her thick rust and filth will not go out of her by fire.

13 I n thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed thee and thou wast not cleansed, thou shalt not be cleansed from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward thee to rest.

In your filthiness is abomination; because I would have cleansed you and you were not cleansed, you shall not be cleansed from your filthiness any more until I have satisfied My wrath against and upon you.

14 I , Jehovah, have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it: I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord Jehovah.

I the Lord have spoken it; it shall come to pass and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I relent; according to your ways and according to your doings shall they judge and punish you, says the Lord God.

15 A lso the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Also the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

16 S on of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet thou shalt neither mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes at a single stroke. Yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, neither shall your tears flow.

17 S igh, but not aloud, make no mourning for the dead; bind thy headtire upon thee, and put thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.

Sigh and groan, but not aloud; make no mourning for the dead; bind your turban upon your head and put your shoes on your feet, and do not cover your beard or eat the bread of mourners.

18 S o I spake unto the people in the morning; and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

So I spoke to the people in the morning and in the evening my wife died, and I did the next morning as I was commanded.

19 A nd the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?

And the people said to me, Will you not tell us what these things are supposed to mean to us, that you are acting as you do?

20 T hen I said unto them, The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Then I answered them, The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

21 S peak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left behind shall fall by the sword.

Speak to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will profane My sanctuary— pride as your strength, the desire of your eyes, and the pity and sympathy of your soul; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind shall fall by the sword.

22 A nd ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.

And you shall do as I have done; you shall not cover your beard nor eat the bread of mourning,

23 A nd your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall pine away in your iniquities, and moan one toward another.

And your turbans shall be upon your heads and your shoes upon your feet; you shall not mourn or weep, but you shall pine away for your iniquities (your guilt) and sigh and groan to one another.

24 T hus shall Ezekiel be unto you a sign; according to all that he hath done shall ye do: when this cometh, then shall ye know that I am the Lord Jehovah.

Thus Ezekiel is to you a sign; according to all that he has done you shall do. And when this comes, you shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord God.

25 A nd thou, son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their heart, their sons and their daughters,

And you, son of man, on the day when I take from them their strength and their stronghold, their joy and their glory, the delight of their eyes and their hearts’ chief desire, and also their sons and their daughters—

26 t hat in that day he that escapeth shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?

On that day an escaped fugitive shall come to you to cause you to hear of it with your own ears.

27 I n that day shall thy mouth be opened to him that is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: so shalt thou be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.

In that day your mouth shall be open to him who has escaped, and you shall speak and be no more speechless, and you shall be a sign to them and they shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.
