1 A nd as he went forth out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Teacher, behold, what manner of stones and what manner of buildings!
And as was coming out of the temple '> area], one of His disciples said to Him, Look, Teacher! Notice the sort and quality of these stones and buildings!
2 A nd Jesus said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left here one stone upon another, which shall not be thrown down.
And Jesus replied to him, You see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be loosened and torn down.
3 A nd as he sat on the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
And as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple '> enclosure], Peter and James and John and Andrew asked Him privately,
4 T ell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when these things are all about to be accomplished?
Tell us when is this to take place and what will be the sign when these things, all, are about to be accomplished?
5 A nd Jesus began to say unto them, Take heed that no man lead you astray.
And Jesus began to tell them, Be careful and watchful that no one misleads you.
6 M any shall come in my name, saying, I am he; and shall lead many astray.
Many will come in '> appropriating to themselves] the name which belongs to Me '> basing their claims on the use of My name], saying, I am! And they will mislead many.
7 A nd when ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, be not troubled: these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet.
And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not get alarmed (troubled and frightened); it is necessary take place, but the end is not yet.
8 F or nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there shall be earthquakes in divers places; there shall be famines: these things are the beginning of travail.
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines and calamities. This is but the beginning of the intolerable anguish and suffering '> birth pangs].
9 B ut take ye heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in synagogues shall ye be beaten; and before governors and kings shall ye stand for my sake, for a testimony unto them.
But look to yourselves; for they will turn you over to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake as a testimony to them.
10 A nd the gospel must first be preached unto all the nations.
And the good news (the Gospel) must first be preached to all nations.
11 A nd when they lead you to judgment, and deliver you up, be not anxious beforehand what ye shall speak: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye; for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit.
Now when they take you and put you under arrest, do not be anxious beforehand about what you are to say nor meditate about it; but say whatever is given you in that hour and at the moment, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
12 A nd brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.
And brother will hand over brother to death, and the father his child; and children will take a stand against their parents and them put to death.
13 A nd ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
And you will be hated and detested by everybody for My name’s sake, but he who patiently perseveres and endures to the end will be saved ( made a partaker of the salvation by Christ, and delivered from spiritual death).
14 B ut when ye see the abomination of desolation standing where he ought not (let him that readeth understand), then let them that are in Judaea flee unto the mountains:
But when you see the abomination of desolation mentioned by Daniel the prophet standing where it ought not to be— let the one who reads take notice and consider and understand and heed —then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
15 a nd let him that is on the housetop not go down, nor enter in, to take anything out his house:
Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house nor go inside to take anything out of his house;
16 a nd let him that is in the field not return back to take his cloak.
And let him who is in the field not turn back again to get his mantle (cloak).
17 B ut woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days!
And alas for those who are pregnant and for those who have nursing babies in those days!
18 A nd pray ye that it be not in the winter.
Pray that it may not occur in winter,
19 F or those days shall be tribulation, such as there hath not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never shall be.
For at that time there will be such affliction (oppression and tribulation) as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until this particular time—and positively never will be.
20 A nd except the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the elect's sake, whom he chose, he shortened the days.
And unless the Lord had shortened the days, no human being would be saved (rescued); but for the sake of the elect, His chosen ones (those whom He picked out for Himself), He has shortened the days.
21 A nd then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ; or, Lo, there; believe it not:
And then if anyone says to you, See, here is the Christ (the Messiah)! or, Look, there He is! do not believe it.
22 f or there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall show signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, the elect.
False Christs (Messiahs) and false prophets will arise and show signs and miracles to deceive and lead astray, if possible, even the elect (those God has chosen out for Himself).
23 B ut take ye heed: behold, I have told you all things beforehand.
But look to yourselves and be on your guard; I have told you everything beforehand.
24 B ut in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;
25 a nd the stars shall be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken.
And the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
26 A nd then shall they see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great (kingly) power and glory (majesty and splendor).
27 A nd then shall he send forth the angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
And then He will send out the angels and will gather together His elect (those He has picked out for Himself) from the four winds, from the farthest bounds of the earth to the farthest bounds of heaven.
28 N ow from the fig tree learn her parable: when her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh;
Now learn a lesson from the fig tree: as soon as its branch becomes tender and it puts forth its leaves, you recognize and know that summer is near.
29 e ven so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that he is nigh, even at the doors.
So also, when you see these things happening, you may recognize and know that He is near, at door.
30 V erily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, until all these things be accomplished.
Surely I say to you, this generation ( the whole multitude of people living at that one time) positively will not perish or pass away before all these things take place.
31 H eaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
Heaven and earth will perish and pass away, but My words will not perish or pass away.
32 B ut of that day or that hour knoweth no one, not even the angels in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
But of that day or that hour not a person knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
33 T ake ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
Be on your guard, and watch and pray; for you do not know when the time will come.
34 I t is as when a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, to each one his work, commanded also the porter to watch.
It is like a man '> already] going on a journey; when he leaves home, he puts his servants in charge, each with his particular task, and he gives orders to the doorkeeper to be constantly alert and on the watch.
35 W atch therefore: for ye know not when the lord of the house cometh, whether at even, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning;
Therefore watch (give strict attention, be cautious and alert), for you do not know when the Master of the house is coming—in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning—
36 l est coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
lest He come suddenly and unexpectedly and find you asleep.
37 A nd what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
And what I say to you I say to everybody: Watch (give strict attention, be cautious, active, and alert)!
