1 A nd as he went forth out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Teacher, behold, what manner of stones and what manner of buildings!

Mentre egli usciva dal tempio, uno dei suoi discepoli gli disse: «Maestro, guarda che pietre e che edifici!»

2 A nd Jesus said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left here one stone upon another, which shall not be thrown down.

Gesù gli disse: «Vedi questi grandi edifici? Non sarà lasciata pietra su pietra che non sia diroccata».

3 A nd as he sat on the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,

Poi, mentre era seduto sul monte degli Ulivi di fronte al tempio, Pietro, Giacomo, Giovanni e Andrea gli domandarono in disparte:

4 T ell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when these things are all about to be accomplished?

«Dicci, quando avverranno queste cose e quale sarà il segno che tutte queste cose staranno per adempiersi?»

5 A nd Jesus began to say unto them, Take heed that no man lead you astray.

Gesù cominciò a dire loro: «Guardate che nessuno v’inganni!

6 M any shall come in my name, saying, I am he; and shall lead many astray.

Molti verranno nel mio nome, dicendo: “Sono io ”; e ne inganneranno molti.

7 A nd when ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, be not troubled: these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet.

Quando udrete guerre e rumori di guerre, non vi turbate; è necessario che ciò avvenga, ma non sarà ancora la fine.

8 F or nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there shall be earthquakes in divers places; there shall be famines: these things are the beginning of travail.

Perché insorgerà nazione contro nazione e regno contro regno; vi saranno terremoti in vari luoghi; vi saranno carestie. Queste cose saranno un principio di dolori.

9 B ut take ye heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in synagogues shall ye be beaten; and before governors and kings shall ye stand for my sake, for a testimony unto them.

Badate a voi stessi! Vi consegneranno ai tribunali, sarete battuti nelle sinagoghe, sarete fatti comparire davanti a governatori e re, per causa mia, affinché ciò serva loro di testimonianza.

10 A nd the gospel must first be preached unto all the nations.

E prima bisogna che il vangelo sia predicato fra tutte le genti.

11 A nd when they lead you to judgment, and deliver you up, be not anxious beforehand what ye shall speak: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye; for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit.

Quando vi condurranno per mettervi nelle loro mani, non preoccupatevi in anticipo di ciò che direte, ma dite quello che vi sarà dato in quell’ora; perché non siete voi che parlate, ma lo Spirito Santo.

12 A nd brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

Il fratello darà il fratello alla morte e il padre, il figlio; i figli insorgeranno contro i genitori e li faranno morire.

13 A nd ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.

Sarete odiati da tutti a causa del mio nome; ma chi avrà perseverato sino alla fine sarà salvato.

14 B ut when ye see the abomination of desolation standing where he ought not (let him that readeth understand), then let them that are in Judaea flee unto the mountains:

«Quando poi vedrete l’abominazione della desolazione posta là dove non deve stare (chi legge faccia attenzione!), allora quelli che saranno nella Giudea fuggano ai monti;

15 a nd let him that is on the housetop not go down, nor enter in, to take anything out his house:

chi sarà sulla terrazza non scenda e non entri per prendere qualcosa da casa sua,

16 a nd let him that is in the field not return back to take his cloak.

e chi sarà nel campo non torni indietro a prendere la sua veste.

17 B ut woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days!

Guai alle donne che saranno incinte e a quelle che allatteranno in quei giorni!

18 A nd pray ye that it be not in the winter.

Pregate che ciò non avvenga d’inverno!

19 F or those days shall be tribulation, such as there hath not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never shall be.

Perché quelli saranno giorni di tale tribolazione, che non ce n’è stata una uguale dal principio del mondo che Dio ha creato, fino ad ora, né mai più vi sarà.

20 A nd except the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the elect's sake, whom he chose, he shortened the days.

Se il Signore non avesse abbreviato quei giorni, nessuno si salverebbe; ma, a causa degli eletti che si è scelto, egli ha abbreviato quei giorni.

21 A nd then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ; or, Lo, there; believe it not:

Allora, se qualcuno vi dice: “Il Cristo eccolo qui, eccolo là”, non credeteci;

22 f or there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall show signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, the elect.

perché sorgeranno falsi cristi e falsi profeti e faranno segni e prodigi per sedurre, se fosse possibile, gli eletti.

23 B ut take ye heed: behold, I have told you all things beforehand.

Ma voi state attenti; io vi ho predetto ogni cosa.

24 B ut in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

Ma in quei giorni, dopo quella tribolazione, il sole si oscurerà e la luna non darà più il suo splendore;

25 a nd the stars shall be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken.

le stelle cadranno dal cielo e le potenze che sono nei cieli saranno scrollate.

26 A nd then shall they see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

Allora si vedrà il Figlio dell’uomo venire sulle nuvole con grande potenza e gloria.

27 A nd then shall he send forth the angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Ed egli allora manderà gli angeli e raccoglierà i suoi eletti dai quattro venti, dall’estremo della terra all’estremo del cielo.

28 N ow from the fig tree learn her parable: when her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh;

Ora imparate dal fico questa similitudine: quando i suoi rami si fanno teneri e mettono le foglie, voi sapete che l’estate è vicina.

29 e ven so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that he is nigh, even at the doors.

Così anche voi, quando vedrete accadere queste cose, sappiate che egli è vicino, alle porte.

30 V erily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, until all these things be accomplished.

In verità vi dico che questa generazione non passerà prima che tutte queste cose siano avvenute.

31 H eaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Il cielo e la terra passeranno, ma le mie parole non passeranno.

32 B ut of that day or that hour knoweth no one, not even the angels in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Quanto a quel giorno o a quell’ora, nessuno li sa, neppure gli angeli del cielo, neppure il Figlio, ma solo il Padre.

33 T ake ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

State in guardia, vegliate, poiché non sapete quando sarà quel momento.

34 I t is as when a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, to each one his work, commanded also the porter to watch.

È come un uomo che si è messo in viaggio dopo aver lasciato la sua casa, dandone la responsabilità ai suoi servi, a ciascuno il proprio compito, e comandando al portinaio di vegliare.

35 W atch therefore: for ye know not when the lord of the house cometh, whether at even, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning;

Vegliate dunque perché non sapete quando viene il padrone di casa; se a sera, o a mezzanotte, o al cantare del gallo, o la mattina;

36 l est coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

perché, venendo all’improvviso, non vi trovi addormentati.

37 A nd what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Quel che dico a voi, lo dico a tutti: “Vegliate”».
