1 A nd Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this vial of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead.

Allora il profeta Eliseo chiamò uno dei discepoli dei profeti e gli disse: «Cingiti i fianchi, prendi con te questo vasetto d’olio e va’ a Ramot di Galaad.

2 A nd when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber.

Quando vi sarai arrivato, cerca di vedere Ieu, figlio di Ieosafat, figlio di Nimsi; entra, fallo alzare in mezzo ai suoi fratelli e conducilo in una camera appartata.

3 T hen take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith Jehovah, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.

Poi prendi il vasetto d’olio, versaglielo sul capo e digli: “Così dice il Signore: ‘Io ti ungo re d’Israele’”. Poi apri la porta e fuggi senza indugiare».

4 S o the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead.

Così quel giovane, il giovane profeta, partì per Ramot di Galaad.

5 A nd when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of us all? And he said, To thee, O captain.

Quando vi giunse, i capitani dell’esercito stavano seduti assieme; e disse: «Capitano, ho da dirti una parola». Ieu chiese: «A chi di noi?» Quegli rispose: «A te, capitano».

6 A nd he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of Jehovah, even over Israel.

Ieu si alzò ed entrò in casa, e il giovane gli versò l’olio sul capo dicendogli: «Così dice il Signore, Dio d’Israele: “Io ti ungo re del popolo del Signore d’Israele.

7 A nd thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah, at the hand of Jezebel.

Tu colpirai la casa di Acab, tuo signore, e io vendicherò il sangue dei profeti miei servi e il sangue di tutti i servi del Signore, sparso dalla mano di Izebel.

8 F or the whole house of Ahab shall perish; and I will cut off from Ahab every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel.

Tutta la casa di Acab perirà, e io sterminerò dalla casa di Acab fino all’ultimo uomo, tanto chi è schiavo quanto chi è libero in Israele.

9 A nd I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.

Ridurrò la casa di Acab come la casa di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, e come la casa di Baasa, figlio di Aiia.

10 A nd the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.

I cani divoreranno Izebel nel campo d’Izreel, e non vi sarà chi le dia sepoltura”». Poi il giovane aprì la porta e fuggì.

11 T hen Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man and what his talk was.

Quando Ieu uscì per raggiungere i servitori del suo signore, gli dissero: «Va tutto bene? Perché quel pazzo è venuto da te?» Egli rispose loro: «Voi conoscete l’uomo e i suoi discorsi!»

12 A nd they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I have anointed thee king over Israel.

Ma quelli dissero: «Non è vero! Su, diccelo!» Ieu rispose: «Egli m’ha parlato così e così, e m’ha detto: “Così dice il Signore: ‘Io ti ungo re d’Israele’”».

13 T hen they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, Jehu is king.

Allora ognuno di essi si affrettò a togliersi il mantello e a stenderlo sotto Ieu su per i nudi gradini; poi suonarono la tromba e dissero: «Ieu è re!»

14 S o Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram was keeping Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria;

Ieu, figlio di Ieosafat, figlio di Nimsi, fece una congiura contro Ioram. Ioram, con tutto Israele, stava difendendo Ramot di Galaad contro Azael, re di Siria;

15 b ut king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If this be your mind, then let none escape and go forth out of the city, to go to tell it in Jezreel.

ma il re Ioram era tornato a Izreel per farsi curare le ferite causategli dai Siri, combattendo contro Azael, re di Siria. E Ieu disse: «Se siete d’accordo, badate che nessuno esca e fugga dalla città per andare a portare la notizia a Izreel».

16 S o Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram.

Poi Ieu montò sopra un carro e partì per Izreel, perché Ioram si trovava là, a letto; e Acazia, re di Giuda, vi era andato per visitare Ioram.

17 N ow the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?

La sentinella che stava sulla torre di Izreel scorse la schiera numerosa di Ieu che veniva e disse: «Vedo una schiera numerosa!» Ioram disse: «Prendi un cavaliere e mandalo incontro a loro a dire: “Portate pace?”»

18 S o there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not back.

Un uomo a cavallo andò dunque incontro a Ieu e gli disse: «Così dice il re: “Portate pace?”» Ieu rispose: «Che importa a te della pace? Passa dietro a me». E la sentinella fece rapporto, dicendo: «Il messaggero è giunto fino a loro, ma non torna indietro».

19 T hen he sent out a second on horseback, who came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.

Allora Ioram mandò un secondo cavaliere che, giunto da loro, disse: «Così dice il re: “Portate pace?”» Ieu rispose: «Che importa a te della pace? Passa dietro a me».

20 A nd the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not back: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously.

E la sentinella fece rapporto, dicendo: «Il messaggero è giunto fino a loro e non torna indietro. A vederlo guidare il carro si direbbe che è Ieu, figlio di Nimsi; perché guida come un pazzo».

21 A nd Joram said, Make ready. And they made ready his chariot. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.

Allora Ioram disse: «Attaccate il carro!» Il suo carro venne attaccato e Ioram, re d’Israele, e Acazia, re di Giuda, uscirono ciascuno sul suo carro per andare incontro a Ieu, e lo trovarono nel campo di Nabot d’Izreel.

22 A nd it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

Quando Ioram vide Ieu, gli disse: «Ieu, porti pace?» Ieu rispose: «Che pace vi può essere finché durano le prostituzioni di Izebel, tua madre, e le sue innumerevoli stregonerie?»

23 A nd Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.

Allora Ioram si voltò indietro e fuggì, dicendo ad Acazia: «Siamo traditi, Acazia!»

24 A nd Jehu drew his bow with his full strength, and smote Joram between his arms; and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.

Ma Ieu impugnò l’arco e colpì Ioram fra le spalle, in modo che la freccia gli uscì trapassando il cuore, ed egli stramazzò nel suo carro.

25 T hen said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, Jehovah laid this burden upon him:

Poi Ieu disse a Bidcar, suo aiutante: «Prendilo e buttalo nel campo di Nabot d’Izreel; poiché, ricordalo, quando tu e io cavalcavamo assieme al seguito di Acab, suo padre, il Signore pronunciò contro di lui questa sentenza:

26 S urely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith Jehovah; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith Jehovah. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of Jehovah.

“Com’è vero che ieri vidi il sangue di Nabot e il sangue dei suoi figli”, dice il Signore, “io ti renderò il contraccambio qui in questo campo!”, dice il Signore. Prendilo dunque e buttalo in quel campo, secondo la parola del Signore ».

27 B ut when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden-house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot: and they smote him at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.

Acazia, re di Giuda, veduto questo, fuggì per la strada di Bet-Gan; ma Ieu gli andò dietro e disse: «Tirate anche a lui sul carro!» E lo colpirono alla salita di Gur, che è vicino a Ibleam. E Acazia fuggì a Meghiddo e là morì.

28 A nd his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.

I suoi servitori lo trasportarono sopra un carro a Gerusalemme e lo seppellirono nella sua tomba, con i suoi padri, nella città di Davide.

29 A nd in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.

Acazia aveva cominciato a regnare su Giuda l’undicesimo anno di Ioram, figlio di Acab. Izebel divorata dai cani

30 A nd when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her eyes, and attired her head, and looked out at the window.

Poi Ieu giunse a Izreel. Izebel, che lo seppe, si diede il belletto agli occhi, si acconciò la capigliatura e si mise alla finestra a guardare.

31 A nd as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Is it peace, thou Zimri, thy master's murderer?

Mentre Ieu entrava per la porta della città, lei gli disse: «Porti pace, nuovo Zimri, uccisore del tuo signore?»

32 A nd he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.

Ieu alzò gli occhi verso la finestra e disse: «Chi è per me? Chi?» E due o tre funzionari, affacciatisi, volsero lo sguardo verso di lui.

33 A nd he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down; and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trod her under foot.

Egli disse: «Buttatela giù!» Quelli la buttarono, e il suo sangue schizzò contro il muro e contro i cavalli. Ieu le passò sopra, calpestandola;

34 A nd when he was come in, he did eat and drink; and he said, See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king's daughter.

poi entrò, mangiò e bevve, quindi disse: «Andate a vedere quella maledetta donna e sotterratela, poiché è figlia di un re».

35 A nd they went to bury her; but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.

Andarono dunque per sotterrarla, ma non trovarono di lei altro che il cranio, i piedi e le mani.

36 W herefore they came back, and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel;

E tornarono a riferire la cosa a Ieu, il quale disse: «Questa è la parola del Signore pronunciata per mezzo del suo servo Elia il Tisbita, quando disse: “I cani divoreranno la carne di Izebel nel campo d’Izreel;

37 a nd the body of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

e il cadavere di Izebel sarà, nel campo d’Izreel, come letame sulla superficie del suolo, in modo che non si potrà dire: ‘Questa è Izebel’”».
