1 B ut know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come.

Or sappi questo: negli ultimi giorni verranno tempi difficili;

2 F or men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

perché gli uomini saranno egoisti, amanti del denaro, vanagloriosi, superbi, bestemmiatori, ribelli ai genitori, ingrati, irreligiosi,

3 w ithout natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good,

insensibili, sleali, calunniatori, intemperanti, spietati, senza amore per il bene,

4 t raitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;

traditori, sconsiderati, orgogliosi, amanti del piacere anziché di Dio,

5 h olding a form of godliness, but having denied the power therefore. From these also turn away.

aventi l’apparenza della pietà, mentre ne hanno rinnegato la potenza. Anche da costoro allontànati!

6 F or of these are they that creep into houses, and take captive silly women laden with sins, led away by divers lusts,

Poiché nel numero di costoro ci sono quelli che si insinuano nelle case e circuiscono donnette cariche di peccati, agitate da varie passioni,

7 e ver learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

le quali cercano sempre di imparare e non possono mai giungere alla conoscenza della verità.

8 A nd even as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth. Men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.

E come Iannè e Iambrè si opposero a Mosè, così anche costoro si oppongono alla verità: uomini dalla mente corrotta, che non hanno dato buona prova quanto alla fede.

9 B ut they shall proceed no further. For their folly shall be evident unto all men, as theirs also came to be.

Ma non andranno più oltre, perché la loro stoltezza sarà manifesta a tutti, come fu quella di quegli uomini. Esortazioni varie rivolte a Timoteo

10 B ut thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,

Tu invece hai seguito da vicino il mio insegnamento, la mia condotta, i miei propositi, la mia fede, la mia pazienza, il mio amore, la mia costanza,

11 p ersecutions, sufferings. What things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.

le mie persecuzioni, le mie sofferenze, quello che mi accadde ad Antiochia, a Iconio e a Listra. Sai quali persecuzioni ho sopportato, e il Signore mi ha liberato da tutte.

12 Y ea, and all that would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Del resto, tutti quelli che vogliono vivere piamente in Cristo Gesù saranno perseguitati.

13 B ut evil men and impostors shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

Ma gli uomini malvagi e gli impostori andranno di male in peggio, ingannando gli altri ed essendo ingannati.

14 B ut abide thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.

Tu, invece, persevera nelle cose che hai imparate e di cui hai acquistato la certezza, sapendo da chi le hai imparate,

15 A nd that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

e che fin da bambino hai avuto conoscenza delle sacre Scritture, le quali possono darti la sapienza che conduce alla salvezza mediante la fede in Cristo Gesù.

16 E very scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness.

Ogni Scrittura è ispirata da Dio e utile a insegnare, a riprendere, a correggere, a educare alla giustizia,

17 T hat the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.

perché l’uomo di Dio sia completo e ben preparato per ogni opera buona.
