1 T he elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all they that know the truth;

L’anziano alla signora eletta e ai suoi figli che io amo nella verità (e non solo io ma anche tutti quelli che hanno conosciuto la verità)

2 f or the truth's sake which abideth in us, and it shall be with us for ever:

a motivo della verità che dimora in noi e sarà con noi in eterno:

3 G race, mercy, peace shall be with us, from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

grazia, misericordia e pace saranno con noi da parte di Dio Padre e di Gesù Cristo, il Figlio del Padre, nella verità e nell’amore. La verità e l’amore

4 I rejoice greatly that I have found certain of thy children walking in truth, even as we received commandment from the Father.

Mi sono molto rallegrato di aver trovato fra i tuoi figli alcuni che camminano nella verità, secondo il comandamento che abbiamo ricevuto dal Padre.

5 A nd now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

E ora ti prego, signora, non come se ti scrivessi un comandamento nuovo, ma quello che abbiamo avuto fin dal principio: amiamoci gli uni gli altri!

6 A nd this is love, that we should walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it.

In questo è l’amore: che camminiamo secondo i suoi comandamenti. Questo è il comandamento in cui dovete camminare come avete imparato fin dal principio. I falsi dottori

7 F or many deceivers are gone forth into the world, even they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Poiché molti seduttori sono usciti per il mondo, i quali non riconoscono pubblicamente che Gesù Cristo è venuto in carne. Quello è il seduttore e l’anticristo.

8 L ook to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which we have wrought, but that ye receive a full reward.

Badate a voi stessi affinché non perdiate quello per cui abbiamo lavorato, ma riceviate piena ricompensa.

9 W hosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the Father and the Son.

Chiunque va oltre e non rimane nella dottrina di Cristo, non ha Dio. Chi rimane nella dottrina, ha il Padre e il Figlio.

10 I f any one cometh unto you, and bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into your house, and give him no greeting:

Se qualcuno viene a voi e non reca questa dottrina, non ricevetelo in casa e non salutatelo.

11 f or he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil works.

Chi lo saluta, partecipa alle sue opere malvagie.

12 H aving many things to write unto you, I would not write them with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and to speak face to face, that your joy may be made full.

Avrei molte altre cose da scrivervi, ma non ho voluto farlo con carta e inchiostro, perché spero di venire da voi e di parlarvi a voce, affinché la nostra gioia sia completa.

13 T he children of thine elect sister salute thee.

I figli della tua eletta sorella ti salutano.
