1 A nd Abraham took another wife, and her name was Keturah.

3 A nd Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.

4 A nd the sons of Midian: Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

E i figli di Madian furono Efa, Efer, Anoc, Abida ed Eldaa. Tutti questi furono i figli di Chetura.

5 A nd Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.

Abraamo diede tutto ciò che possedeva a Isacco;

6 B ut unto the sons of the concubines, that Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts. And he sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.

7 A nd these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, a hundred threescore and fifteen years.

8 A nd Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years, and was gathered to his people.

Poi Abraamo spirò in prospera vecchiaia, attempato e sazio di giorni, e fu riunito al suo popolo.

9 A nd Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre.

13 A nd these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the first-born of Ishmael, Nebaioth, and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

16 T hese are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments. Twelve princes according to their nations.

17 A nd these are the years of the life of Ishmael, a hundred and thirty and seven years. And he gave up the ghost and died, and was gathered unto his people.

18 A nd they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria. He abode over against all his brethren.

19 A nd these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son. Abraham begat Isaac.

20 A nd Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife.

Abraamo generò Isacco; Isacco aveva quarant’anni quando prese per moglie Rebecca, figlia di Betuel, l’Arameo di Paddan-Aram, e sorella di Labano l’Arameo.

21 A nd Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren. And Jehovah was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Isacco implorò il Signore per sua moglie Rebecca, perché ella era sterile. Il Signore l’esaudì e Rebecca, sua moglie, concepì.

22 A nd the children struggled together within her. And she said, If it be so, wherefore do I live? And she went to inquire of Jehovah.

23 A nd Jehovah said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels. And the one people shall be stronger than the other people. And the elder shall serve the younger.

Il Signore le disse: «Due nazioni sono nel tuo grembo e due popoli separati usciranno dal tuo seno. Uno dei due popoli sarà più forte dell’altro, e il maggiore servirà il minore ».

24 A nd when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

Quando venne per lei il tempo di partorire, ecco che lei aveva due gemelli nel grembo.

25 A nd the first came forth red, all over like a hairy garment. And they called his name Esau.

Il primo che nacque era rosso e peloso come un mantello di pelo. Così fu chiamato Esaù.

26 A nd after that came forth his brother, and his hand had hold on Esau's heel. And his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.

Dopo nacque suo fratello, che con la mano teneva il calcagno di Esaù e fu chiamato Giacobbe. Isacco aveva sessant’anni quando Rebecca li partorì. Esaù vende il suo diritto di primogenitura

27 A nd the boys grew. And Esau was a skilful hunter, a man of the field. And Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents.

I due bambini crebbero. Esaù divenne un esperto cacciatore, un uomo di campagna, e Giacobbe un uomo tranquillo che se ne stava nelle tende.

28 N ow Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison. And Rebekah loved Jacob.

Isacco amava Esaù, perché la cacciagione era di suo gusto. Rebecca invece amava Giacobbe.

29 A nd Jacob boiled pottage. And Esau came in from the field, and he was faint.

Or mentre Giacobbe faceva cuocere una minestra, Esaù sopraggiunse dai campi, tutto stanco.

30 A nd Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage. For I am faint. Therefore was his name called Edom.

Esaù disse a Giacobbe: «Dammi per favore da mangiare un po’ di questa minestra rossa, perché sono stanco». Perciò fu chiamato Edom.

31 A nd Jacob said, Sell me first thy birthright.

Giacobbe gli rispose: «Vendimi prima di tutto la tua primogenitura».

32 A nd Esau said, Behold, I am about to die. And what profit shall the birthright do to me?

Esaù disse: «Ecco, io sto morendo; a che mi serve la primogenitura?»

33 A nd Jacob said, Swear to me first. And he sware unto him. And he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Giacobbe disse: «Prima, giuramelo». Esaù glielo giurò e vendette la sua primogenitura a Giacobbe.

34 A nd Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils. And he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.

Allora Giacobbe diede a Esaù del pane e della minestra di lenticchie. Egli mangiò e bevve; poi si alzò e se ne andò. Fu in questo modo che Esaù disprezzò la primogenitura.
