1 A nd it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim,

2 t hat they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar).

che essi mossero guerra a Bera re di Sodoma, a Birsa re di Gomorra, a Sineab re di Adma, a Semeber re di Seboim e al re di Bela, cioè Soar.

3 A ll these joined together in the vale of Siddim (the same is the Salt Sea).

Tutti questi ultimi si radunarono nella valle di Siddim, che è il mar Salato.

4 T welve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

Per dodici anni erano stati soggetti a Chedorlaomer, e al tredicesimo anno si erano ribellati.

5 A nd in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,

Nell’anno quattordicesimo, Chedorlaomer e i re che erano con lui vennero e sconfissero i Refaim ad Asterot-Carnaim, gli Zuzei ad Am, gli Emei nella pianura di Chiriataim,

6 a nd the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, which is by the wilderness.

7 A nd they returned, and came to En-mishpat (the same is Kadesh), and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazazon-tamar.

Poi tornarono indietro e vennero a En-Mispat, cioè Cades, e sconfissero gli Amalechiti su tutto il loro territorio, e così pure gli Amorei che abitavano ad Asason-Tamar.

8 A nd there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar); and they set the battle in array against them in the vale of Siddim;

Allora il re di Sodoma, il re di Gomorra, il re di Adma, il re di Seboim e il re di Bela, cioè Soar, uscirono e si schierarono in battaglia contro quelli, nella valle di Siddim:

9 a gainst Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against the five.

contro Chedorlaomer re di Elam, Tideal re dei Goim, Amrafel re di Scinear e Arioc re di Ellasar: quattro re contro cinque.

10 N ow the vale of Siddim was full of slime pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell there, and they that remained fled to the mountain.

La valle di Siddim era piena di pozzi di bitume; i re di Sodoma e di Gomorra si diedero alla fuga e vi caddero dentro; quelli che scamparono fuggirono al monte.

11 A nd they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.

I vincitori presero tutte le ricchezze di Sodoma e di Gomorra, tutti i loro viveri e se ne andarono.

12 A nd they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

Andandosene presero anche Lot, figlio del fratello di Abramo, con i suoi beni: Lot abitava infatti a Sodoma.

13 A nd there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew: now he dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner; and these were confederate with Abram.

Ma uno degli scampati venne a informare Abramo, l’Ebreo, che abitava alle querce di Mamre, l’Amoreo, fratello di Escol e fratello di Aner, i quali avevano fatto alleanza con Abramo.

14 A nd when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.

Abramo, com’ebbe udito che suo fratello era stato fatto prigioniero, armò trecentodiciotto dei suoi più fidati servi, nati in casa sua, e inseguì i re fino a Dan.

15 A nd he divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

Divisa la sua schiera per assalirli di notte, egli, con i suoi servi, li sconfisse e li inseguì fino a Coba, che è a sinistra di Damasco.

16 A nd he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

Recuperò così tutti i beni e ricondusse pure Lot suo fratello, con i suoi beni, e anche le donne e il popolo. Abramo benedetto da Melchisedec

17 A nd the king of Sodom went out to meet him, after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him, at the vale of Shaveh (the same is the King's Vale).

Com’egli se ne tornava, dopo aver sconfitto Chedorlaomer e i re che erano con lui, il re di Sodoma gli andò incontro nella valle di Sciavè, cioè la valle del re.

18 A nd Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was priest of God Most High.

Melchisedec, re di Salem, fece portare del pane e del vino. Egli era sacerdote del Dio altissimo.

19 A nd he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth:

20 a nd blessed be God Most High, who hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him a tenth of all.

Benedetto sia il Dio altissimo, che t’ha dato in mano i tuoi nemici!» E Abramo gli diede la decima di ogni cosa.

21 A nd the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.

Il re di Sodoma disse ad Abramo: «Dammi le persone; i beni prendili per te».

22 A nd Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand unto Jehovah, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,

Ma Abramo rispose al re di Sodoma: «Ho alzato la mia mano al Signore, il Dio altissimo, padrone dei cieli e della terra,

23 t hat I will not take a thread nor a shoe-latchet nor aught that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

giurando che non avrei preso neppure un filo, né un laccio di sandalo, di tutto ciò che ti appartiene; perché tu non abbia a dire: “Io ho arricchito Abramo”.

24 s ave only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men that went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre. Let them take their portion.

Nulla per me! tranne quello che hanno mangiato i giovani e la parte che spetta agli uomini che sono venuti con me: Aner, Escol e Mamre; essi prendano la loro parte».
