1 W herefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, even Jesus;

Perciò, fratelli santi, che siete partecipi della celeste vocazione, considerate Gesù, l’apostolo e il sommo sacerdote della fede che professiamo,

2 w ho was faithful to him that appointed him, as also was Moses in all his house.

il quale è fedele a colui che lo ha costituito, come anche lo fu Mosè, in {tutta} la casa di Dio.

3 F or he hath been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by so much as he that built the house hath more honor than the house.

Gesù, anzi, è stato ritenuto degno di una gloria tanto più grande di quella di Mosè quanto chi costruisce una casa ha maggior onore della casa stessa.

4 F or every house is builded by some one; but he that built all things is God.

Certo ogni casa è costruita da qualcuno, ma chi ha costruito tutte le cose è Dio.

5 A nd Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were afterward to be spoken;

Mosè fu fedele in tutta la casa di Dio come servitore per rendere testimonianza di ciò che doveva essere annunciato,

6 b ut Christ as a son, over his house; whose house are we, if we hold fast our boldness and the glorying of our hope firm unto the end.

ma Cristo lo è come Figlio, sopra la sua casa; e la sua casa siamo noi se manteniamo ferma la nostra franchezza e la speranza di cui ci vantiamo. Il riposo di Dio

7 W herefore, even as the Holy Spirit saith, To-day if ye shall hear his voice,

Perciò, come dice lo Spirito Santo: «Oggi, se udite la sua voce,

8 H arden not your hearts, as in the provocation, Like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness,

non indurite i vostri cuori come nel giorno della ribellione, come nel giorno della tentazione nel deserto,

9 W here your fathers tried me by proving me, And saw my works forty years.

dove i vostri padri mi tentarono mettendomi alla prova, pur avendo visto le mie opere per quarant’anni!

10 W herefore I was displeased with this generation, And said, They do always err in their heart: But they did not know my ways;

Perciò mi disgustai di quella generazione e dissi: “Sono sempre traviati di cuore, non hanno conosciuto le mie vie ”;

11 A s I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.

così giurai nella mia ira: “Non entreranno nel mio riposo!”».

12 T ake heed, brethren, lest haply there shall be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God:

Badate, fratelli, che non ci sia in nessuno di voi un cuore malvagio e incredulo che vi allontani dal Dio vivente;

13 b ut exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called To-day; lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin:

ma esortatevi a vicenda ogni giorno, finché si può dire: «Oggi», perché nessuno di voi s’indurisca per la seduzione del peccato.

14 f or we are become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm unto the end:

Infatti siamo divenuti partecipi di Cristo, a condizione che manteniamo ferma sino alla fine la fiducia che avevamo da principio,

15 w hile it is said, To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

mentre ci viene detto: «Oggi, se udite la sua voce, non indurite i vostri cuori, come nel giorno della ribellione».

16 F or who, when they heard, did provoke? nay, did not all they that came out of Egypt by Moses?

Infatti, chi furono quelli che dopo averlo udito si ribellarono? Non furono forse tutti quelli che erano usciti dall’Egitto, sotto la guida di Mosè?

17 A nd with whom was he displeased forty years? was it not with them that sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?

Chi furono quelli di cui Dio si disgustò per quarant’anni? Non furono quelli che peccarono, i cui cadaveri caddero nel deserto ?

18 A nd to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that were disobedient?

A chi giurò che non sarebbero entrati nel suo riposo, se non a quelli che furono disubbidienti?

19 A nd we see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.

Infatti vediamo che non vi poterono entrare a causa della loro incredulità.
