1 W herefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, even Jesus;
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus,
2 w ho was faithful to him that appointed him, as also was Moses in all his house.
who is faithful to him that has constituted him, as Moses also in all his house.
3 F or he hath been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by so much as he that built the house hath more honor than the house.
For he has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, by how much he that has built it has more honour than the house.
4 F or every house is builded by some one; but he that built all things is God.
For every house is built by some one; but he who has built all things God.
5 A nd Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were afterward to be spoken;
And Moses indeed faithful in all his house, as a ministering servant, for a testimony of the things to be spoken after;
6 b ut Christ as a son, over his house; whose house are we, if we hold fast our boldness and the glorying of our hope firm unto the end.
but Christ, as Son over his house, whose house are we, if indeed we hold fast the boldness and the boast of hope firm to the end.
7 W herefore, even as the Holy Spirit saith, To-day if ye shall hear his voice,
Wherefore, even as says the Holy Spirit, To-day if ye will hear his voice,
8 H arden not your hearts, as in the provocation, Like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness,
harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness;
9 W here your fathers tried me by proving me, And saw my works forty years.
where your fathers tempted, by proving, and saw my works forty years.
10 W herefore I was displeased with this generation, And said, They do always err in their heart: But they did not know my ways;
Wherefore I was wroth with this generation, and said, They always err in heart; and they have not known my ways;
11 A s I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.
so I swore in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest.
12 T ake heed, brethren, lest haply there shall be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God:
See, brethren, lest there be in any one of you a wicked heart of unbelief, in turning away from living God.
13 b ut exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called To-day; lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin:
But encourage yourselves each day, as long as it is called To-day, that none of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
14 f or we are become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm unto the end:
For we are become companions of the Christ if indeed we hold the beginning of the assurance firm to the end;
15 w hile it is said, To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
in that it is said, To-day if ye will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts, as in the provocation;
16 F or who, when they heard, did provoke? nay, did not all they that came out of Egypt by Moses?
(for who was it, who, having heard, provoked? but not all who came out of Egypt by Moses?
17 A nd with whom was he displeased forty years? was it not with them that sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And with whom was he wroth forty years? not with those who had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 A nd to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that were disobedient?
And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to those who had not hearkened to the word?
19 A nd we see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.
And we see that they could not enter in on account of unbelief;)
