1 A nd Jesus answered and spake again in parables unto them, saying,

And Jesus answering spoke to them again in parables, saying,

2 T he kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,

The kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son,

3 a nd sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come.

and sent his bondmen to call the persons invited to the wedding feast, and they would not come.

4 A gain he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast.

Again he sent other bondmen, saying, Say to the persons invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted beasts are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast.

5 B ut they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;

But they made light of it, and went, one to his own land, and another to his commerce.

6 a nd the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

And the rest, laying hold of his bondmen, ill-treated and slew.

7 B ut the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

And the king was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

8 T hen saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy.

Then he says to his bondmen, The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy;

9 G o ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast.

go therefore into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as ye shall find invite to the wedding feast.

10 A nd those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests.

And those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests.

11 B ut when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment:

And the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment.

12 a nd he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless.

And he says to him, friend, how camest thou in here not having on a wedding garment? But he was speechless.

13 T hen the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Then said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

14 F or many are called, but few chosen.

For many are called ones, but few chosen ones.

15 T hen went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might ensnare him in his talk.

Then went the Pharisees and held a council how they might ensnare him in speaking.

16 A nd they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one: for thou regardest not the person of men.

And they send out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not men's person;

17 T ell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

tell us therefore what thou thinkest: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

18 B ut Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites?

But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites?

19 S how me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a denarius.

Shew me the money of the tribute. And they presented to him a denarius.

20 A nd he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

And he says to them, Whose this image and superscription?

21 T hey say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

They say to him, Caesar's. Then he says to them, Pay then what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.

22 A nd when they heard it, they marvelled, and left him, and went away.

And when they heard, they wondered, and left him, and went away.

23 O n that day there came to him Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection: and they asked him,

On that day came to him Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and they demanded of him,

24 s aying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife and shall raise up seed to his brother.

25 N ow there were with us seven brethren: and the first married and deceased, and having no seed left his wife unto his brother;

Now there were with us seven brethren; and the first having married died, and not having seed, left his wife to his brother.

26 i n like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

In like manner also the second and the third, unto the seven.

27 A nd after them all, the woman died.

And last of all the woman also died.

28 I n the resurrection therefore whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

In the resurrection therefore of which of the seven shall she be wife, for all had her?

29 B ut Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

And Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.

30 F or in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.

For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.

31 B ut as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,

32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not God of dead, but of living.

33 A nd when the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

And when the crowds heard they were astonished at his doctrine.

34 B ut the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together.

But the Pharisees, having heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, were gathered together.

35 A nd one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, trying him:

And one of them, a lawyer, demanded, tempting him, and saying,

36 T eacher, which is the great commandment in the law?

Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 A nd he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

And he said to him, Thou shalt love Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy understanding.

38 T his is the great and first commandment.

This is great and first commandment.

39 A nd a second like unto it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

And second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 O n these two commandments the whole law hangeth, and the prophets.

On these two commandments the whole law and the prophets hang.

41 N ow while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,

And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus demanded of them,

42 s aying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.

saying, What think ye concerning the Christ? whose son is he? They say to him, David's.

43 H e saith unto them, How then doth David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

He says to them, How then does David in Spirit call him Lord, saying,

44 T he Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I put thine enemies underneath thy feet?

The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand until I put thine enemies under thy feet?

45 I f David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son?

If therefore David call him Lord, how is he his son?

46 A nd no one was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

And no one was able to answer him a word, nor did any one dare from that day to question him any more.
