1 E sta es la palabra que vino a Jeremías de parte del Señor:

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

2 “ Oigan las palabras de este pacto, y díganlas a los hombres de Judá y a los habitantes de Jerusalén.

Hear the words of this covenant or solemn pledge, and speak to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

3 L es dirán: ‘Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Maldito el hombre que no obedezca las palabras de este pacto

Say to them, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Cursed is the man who does not heed the words of this covenant or solemn pledge

4 q ue mandé a sus padres el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, del horno de hierro, y les dije: ‘Escuchen Mi voz (Obedézcanme), y hagan conforme a todo lo que Yo les mando; y ustedes serán Mi pueblo, y Yo seré su Dios,’

Which I commanded your fathers at the time that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Listen to My voice and do according to all that I command you. So will you be My people, and I will be your God,

5 p ara confirmar el juramento que juré a sus padres, de darles una tierra que mana leche y miel, como lo es hoy.”’” Entonces respondí: “Amén, Señor.”

That I may perform the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then I answered, Amen (so be it), O Lord.

6 Y el Señor me dijo: “Proclama todas estas palabras en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén, diciendo: ‘Oigan las palabras de este pacto y cúmplanlas.

And the Lord said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem: Hear the words of this covenant or solemn pledge and do them.

7 P orque bien advertí a sus padres el día que los hice subir de la tierra de Egipto, y hasta hoy los he amonestado con insistencia, diciéndoles: “Escuchen Mi voz (Obedézcanme).”

For I earnestly protested to and warned your fathers at the time that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, protesting to and warning them persistently, saying, Obey My voice.

8 P ero no escucharon ni inclinaron su oído, sino que cada cual anduvo en la terquedad de su malvado corazón. Por tanto, hice caer sobre ellos todas las palabras de este pacto, que Yo les mandé cumplir y no lo cumplieron.’”

Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone walked in the stubbornness of his own evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant or solemn pledge, which I had commanded, but they did not do.

9 E ntonces el Señor me dijo: “Se ha descubierto una conspiración entre los hombres de Judá y entre los habitantes de Jerusalén.

And the Lord said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

10 S e han vuelto a las iniquidades de sus antepasados, los cuales rehusaron escuchar Mis palabras, y se han ido tras otros dioses para servirlos. La casa de Israel y la casa de Judá han violado Mi pacto, el cual hice con sus padres.”

They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear My words; they have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant or solemn pledge which I made with their fathers.

11 P or tanto, así dice el Señor: “Yo traigo sobre ellos una calamidad de la que no podrán escapar; aunque clamen a Mí, no los escucharé.

Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I am bringing evil and calamity upon them which they will not be able to escape; though they cry to Me, I will not listen to them.

12 E ntonces irán las ciudades de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén, y clamarán a los dioses a quienes queman incienso, pero ellos ciertamente no podrán salvarlos en la hora de su aflicción.

Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they offer incense, but they cannot save them at all in the time of their evil trouble.

13 P orque según el número de tus ciudades son tus dioses, oh Judá, y según el número de las calles de Jerusalén, son los altares que has levantado a lo vergonzoso, altares para quemar incienso a Baal.

For the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah; and the number of the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

14 “ Pero tú no ruegues por este pueblo, ni eleves clamor ni oración por ellos; porque no escucharé cuando clamen a Mí a causa de su aflicción.

Therefore do not pray for this people or lift up a cry or prayer for them, for I will not listen when they cry out to Me in the time of their evil trouble.

15 “ ¿Qué derecho tiene Mi amada en Mi casa Cuando ha hecho tantas cosas malas ? ¿Puede la carne consagrada quitar de ti tu calamidad Para que puedas regocijarte?”

What right has My beloved in My house when she has wrought lewdness and done treacherously many times? Can vows and the holy flesh remove from you your wickedness and avert your calamity? Can you by these rejoice exultantly?

16 “ Olivo frondoso, hermoso en fruto y forma,” Te puso por nombre el Señor. Con ruido de un gran estrépito Ha prendido fuego en él, Y sus ramas son inservibles.

The Lord called a green olive tree, fair and of good fruit; but with the roar of a great tempest He will set fire to it, and its branches will be consumed.

17 E l Señor de los ejércitos, que te plantó, ha decretado una calamidad contra ti a causa de la maldad que la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá han hecho, provocándome al ofrecer sacrificios a Baal. Intrigas contra Jeremías

For the Lord of hosts, Who planted you, has pronounced evil and calamity against you because of the evil which the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done against themselves in provoking Me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

18 E l Señor me lo hizo saber y lo comprendí. Entonces me hiciste ver sus obras.

And the Lord gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it; then You showed me their doings.

19 P ero yo era como un cordero manso llevado al matadero, y no sabía que tramaban intrigas contra mí, diciendo: “Destruyamos el árbol con su fruto, y cortémoslo de la tierra de los vivientes, para que su nombre no se recuerde más.”

But I was like a tame lamb that is brought to the slaughter; I did not know that they had devised inventions and schemes against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

20 P ero, oh Señor de los ejércitos, que juzgas rectamente, Que examinas los sentimientos y el corazón, Vea yo Tu venganza contra ellos, Porque a Ti he expuesto mi causa.

But, O Lord of hosts, Who judges rightly and justly, Who tests the heart and the mind, let me see Your vengeance on them, for to You I have revealed and committed my cause.

21 P or tanto, así dice el Señor en cuanto a los hombres de Anatot que buscan tu vida, y dicen: “No profetices en el nombre del Señor, para que no mueras a manos nuestras.”

Therefore thus says the Lord about the men of Anathoth, who seek your life and say, Prophesy not in the name of the Lord, that you die not by our hands—

22 A sí, pues, dice el Señor de los ejércitos: “Voy a castigarlos. Los jóvenes morirán a espada, sus hijos e hijas morirán de hambre,

Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will punish them. Their young men will die by the sword, their sons and their daughters will die by famine;

23 y no quedará de ellos remanente, porque traeré una calamidad sobre los hombres de Anatot, el año de su castigo.”

And there will be no remnant left, for I will bring evil and calamity upon the men of Anathoth in the year of their punishment.
