1 Y sucedió que cuando Jesús terminó de dar instrucciones a Sus doce discípulos, se fue de allí a enseñar y predicar en las ciudades de ellos. Jesús y los Discípulos de Juan

When Jesus had finished His charge to His twelve disciples, He left there to teach and to preach in their cities.

2 A l oír Juan en la cárcel de las obras de Cristo (el Mesías), mandó por medio de sus discípulos

Now when John in prison heard about the activities of Christ, he sent a message by his disciples

3 a decir a Jesús: “¿Eres Tú el que ha de venir, o esperaremos a otro?”

And asked Him, Are You the One Who was to come, or should we keep on expecting a different one?

4 J esús les respondió: “Vayan y cuenten a Juan lo que oyen y ven:

And Jesus replied to them, Go and report to John what you hear and see:

5 l os ciegos reciben la vista y los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios, los sordos oyen, los muertos son resucitados y a los pobres se les anuncia el evangelio (las buenas nuevas ).

The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed (by healing) and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up and the poor have good news (the Gospel) preached to them.

6 Y bienaventurado es el que no se escandaliza de Mí.” Jesús Habla de Juan el Bautista

And blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is he who takes no offense at Me and finds no cause for stumbling in or through Me and is not hindered from seeing the Truth.

7 M ientras ellos (los discípulos de Juan) se iban, Jesús comenzó a hablar a las multitudes acerca de Juan: “¿Qué salieron a ver en el desierto ? ¿Una caña sacudida por el viento?

Then as these men went their way, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: What did you go out in the wilderness (desert) to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

8 P ero, ¿qué salieron a ver? ¿Un hombre vestido con ropas finas? Miren, los que usan ropas finas están en los palacios de los reyes.

What did you go out to see then? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in the houses of kings.

9 P ero, ¿qué salieron a ver? ¿A un profeta ? Sí, les digo, y uno que es más que un profeta.

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one '> out of the common, more eminent, more remarkable, and] superior to a prophet.

10 E ste es de quien está escrito: ‘ He aqui, yo envio Mi mensajero delante de Ti, quien preparara Tu camino delante de Ti.’

This is the one of whom it is written, Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You, who shall make ready Your way before You.

11 E n verdad les digo que entre los nacidos de mujer no se ha levantado nadie mayor que Juan el Bautista; sin embargo, el más pequeño en el reino de los cielos es mayor que él.

Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12 D esde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el reino de los cielos sufre violencia, y los violentos lo conquistan por la fuerza.

And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force '> share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion].

13 P orque todos los profetas y la Ley profetizaron hasta Juan.

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied up until John.

14 Y si quieren aceptar lo, él es Elías, el que había de venir.

And if you are willing to receive and accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.

15 E l que tiene oídos, que oiga.

He who has ears to hear, let him be listening and let him consider and perceive and comprehend by hearing.

16 “ Pero, ¿con qué compararé a esta generación? Es semejante a los muchachos que se sientan en las plazas, que dan voces a los otros,

But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like little children sitting in the marketplaces who call to their playmates,

17 y dicen: ‘Les tocamos la flauta, y no bailaron; entonamos endechas (cantos fúnebres), y no se lamentaron.’

We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed dirges, and you did not mourn and beat your breasts and weep aloud.

18 P orque vino Juan que no comía ni bebía, y dicen: ‘Tiene un demonio.’

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon!

19 V ino el Hijo del Hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: ‘Miren, un hombre glotón y bebedor de vino, amigo de recaudadores de impuestos y de pecadores.’ Pero la sabiduría se justifica por sus hechos.” Ayes sobre Ciudades de Galilea

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and '> especially wicked] sinners! Yet wisdom is justified and vindicated by what she does (her deeds) and by her children.

20 E ntonces Jesús comenzó a reprender a las ciudades en las que había hecho la mayoría de Sus milagros, porque no se habían arrepentido:

Then He began to censure and reproach the cities in which most of His mighty works had been performed, because they did not repent.

21 “ ¡ Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si los milagros que se hicieron en ustedes se hubieran hecho en Tiro y en Sidón, hace tiempo que se hubieran arrepentido en cilicio y ceniza.

Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.

22 P or eso les digo que en el día del juicio será más tolerable el castigo para Tiro y Sidón que para ustedes.

I tell you, it shall be more endurable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

23 Y tú, Capernaúm, ¿acaso serás elevada hasta los cielos? ¡Hasta el Hades (región de los muertos) descenderás! Porque si los milagros que se hicieron en ti se hubieran hecho en Sodoma, ésta hubiera permanecido hasta hoy.

And you, Capernaum, are you to be lifted up to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have continued until today.

24 S in embargo, les digo que en el día del juicio será más tolerable el castigo para la tierra de Sodoma que para ti.” La Gran Invitación

But I tell you, it shall be more endurable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.

25 E n aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo: “Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque ocultaste estas cosas a sabios e inteligentes, y las revelaste a los niños.

At that time Jesus began to say, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth '> I acknowledge openly and joyfully to Your honor], that You have hidden these things from the wise and clever and learned, and revealed them to babies '> childish, untaught, and unskilled].

26 S í, Padre, porque así fue de Tu agrado.

Yes, Father, such was Your gracious will and good pleasure.

27 T odas las cosas Me han sido entregadas por Mi Padre; y nadie conoce al Hijo, sino el Padre, ni nadie conoce al Padre, sino el Hijo, y aquél a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.

All things have been entrusted and delivered to Me by My Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Son except the Father, and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son deliberately wills to make Him known.

28 “ Vengan a Mí, todos los que están cansados y cargados, y Yo los haré descansar.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. '> ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]

29 T omen Mi yugo sobre ustedes y aprendan de Mí, que Yo soy manso y humilde de corazón, y hallaran descanso para sus almas.

Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest ( relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

30 P orque Mi yugo es fácil y Mi carga ligera.”

For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.
