1 “ Y en el primer año de Darío el Medo, yo mismo me levanté para serle fortalecedor y protector. Los Reyes del Norte y del Sur

Also I, in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood up to confirm and to strengthen him.

2 A hora te declararé la verdad: Se levantarán tres reyes más en Persia, y un cuarto rey obtendrá muchas más riquezas que todos ellos. Cuando éste se haya hecho fuerte con sus riquezas, provocará a todo el imperio contra el reino de Grecia.

And now I will show you the truth. Behold, there shall arise three more kings in Persia, and a fourth shall be far richer than they all. And when he has become strong through his riches he shall stir up and stake all against the realm of Greece.

3 S e levantará entonces un rey poderoso que gobernará con gran autoridad y hará lo que le plazca.

Then a mighty king shall arise who shall rule with great dominion and do according to his will.

4 P ero cuando se haya levantado, su reino será fragmentado y repartido hacia los cuatro vientos del cielo, no a sus descendientes, ni según el poder que ejerció, pues su reino será arrancado y dado a otros fuera de ellos.

And as soon as he has fully arisen, his kingdom shall be broken and divided toward the four winds of the heavens, but not to his posterity, nor according to the dominion which he ruled, for his kingdom shall be torn out and uprooted and go to others to the exclusion of these.

5 “ Entonces el rey del sur se hará poderoso, y uno de sus príncipes se hará más poderoso que él y dominará. Su dominio será un gran dominio.

Then the king of the South (Egypt) shall be strong, but one of his princes shall be stronger than he is and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.

6 Y años después, harán alianza, y la hija del rey del sur vendrá al rey del norte para hacer el pacto. Pero ella no retendrá su posición de poder, ni él permanecerá con su poder, sino que ella será entregada junto con los que la trajeron, con el que la engendró (su padre) y con el que la sostenía en aquellos tiempos.

At the end of some years they shall make an alliance; the daughter of the king of the South shall come to the king of the North to make agreement; but she shall not retain the power of her might, neither shall he and his might endure. She shall be handed over with her attendants, her child, and him who strengthened her in those times.

7 P ero se levantará un vástago de sus raíces en su lugar, y vendrá contra el ejército y entrará en la fortaleza del rey del norte, y luchará con ellos y prevalecerá.

But out of a branch of the roots as hers shall one stand up in his place or office, who shall come against the army and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the North and shall deal against them and shall prevail.

8 A un sus dioses, sus imágenes fundidas y sus vasijas preciosas de plata y de oro los tomará y se los llevará a Egipto, y por algunos años él se mantendrá lejos del rey del norte.

And also he shall carry off to Egypt their gods with their molten images and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold, and he shall refrain for some years from the king of the North.

9 Y éste entrará en el reino del rey del sur, y luego se volverá a su tierra.

And he shall come into the kingdom of the king of the South but shall return to his own land.

10 “ Pero sus hijos se movilizarán y reunirán una multitud de grandes ejércitos, y uno de ellos seguirá avanzando e inundará y pasará adelante, para hacer guerra de nuevo hasta la misma fortaleza.

But his sons shall be stirred up and shall prepare for war and shall assemble a multitude of great forces, which shall come on and overflow and pass through and again shall make war even to the fortress.

11 E l rey del sur se enfurecerá, y saldrá y peleará contra el rey del norte. Y éste levantará una gran multitud, pero esa multitud será entregada en manos de aquél.

And the king of the South (Egypt) shall be moved with anger and shall come forth and fight with the king of the North (Syria); and he shall set forth a great multitude, but the multitude shall be given into his hand.

12 C uando se haya llevado la multitud, su corazón se enaltecerá y hará caer a muchos millares, pero no prevalecerá.

When the multitude is taken and carried away, the heart and mind shall be exalted, and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail.

13 E l rey del norte volverá a levantar una multitud mayor que la primera, y después de algunos años avanzará con un gran ejército y con mucho equipo.

For the king of the North shall raise a multitude greater than before, and after some years shall certainly return, coming with a great army and much substance and equipment.

14 “ En aquellos tiempos, muchos se levantarán contra el rey del sur. Los violentos de tu pueblo también se levantarán para cumplir la visión, pero caerán.

In those times many shall rise up against the king of the South (Egypt); also the men of violence among your own people shall lift themselves up in order to fulfill the visions, but they shall fail and fall.

15 V endrá el rey del norte, levantará un terraplén y tomará una ciudad bien fortificada. Y las fuerzas del sur no podrán mantenerse, ni aun sus tropas más selectas, porque no habrá fuerzas para resistir.

Then the king of the North shall come and cast up siege works and take a well-fortified city, and the forces of the South shall not stand, or even his chosen troops, for there shall be no strength to stand.

16 P ero el que viene contra él hará lo que quiera, y nadie podrá resistirlo. Y permanecerá por algún tiempo en la Tierra Hermosa (Palestina), llevando la destrucción en su mano.

But he who comes against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him; he shall stand in the glorious land, and in his hand shall be destruction and all the land shall be in his power.

17 Y afirmará su rostro para venir con el poder de todo su reino, trayendo consigo oferta de paz, lo cual llevará a cabo. También le dará una hija de las mujeres para destruirlo, pero ella no le respaldará ni se pondrá a su lado.

He shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and with him upright conditions and terms of peace, and he shall perform them. He shall give him daughter to corrupt and destroy it and the kingdom, but it shall not succeed or be to his advantage.

18 E ntonces volverá su rostro hacia las costas y tomará muchas de ellas. Pero un príncipe pondrá fin a su afrenta. Además, hará recaer sobre él su afrenta.

After this he shall turn his attention to the islands and coastlands and shall take over many of them. But a prince or commander shall teach him to put an end to the insults offered by him; in fact he shall turn his insolence and reproaches back upon him.

19 D espués volverá su rostro hacia las fortalezas de su tierra, pero tropezará y caerá, y no se le hallará más.

Then he shall turn his face back toward the fortresses of his own land, but he shall stumble and fall and not be found.

20 “ Y se levantará en su lugar otro que enviará un opresor a través de la Joya de su reino. Pero a los pocos días será destruido, aunque no en ira ni en batalla.

Then shall stand up in his place or office one who shall send an exactor of tribute to pass through the glory of the kingdom, but within a few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger nor in battle.

21 E n su lugar se levantará un hombre despreciable, a quien no se le han otorgado los honores de la realeza. Vendrá cuando haya tranquilidad y se apoderará del reino con intrigas.

And in his place or office shall arise a contemptuous and contemptible person, to whom royal majesty and honor of the kingdom have not been given. But he shall come in without warning in time of security and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries, intrigues, and cunning hypocritical conduct.

22 L as fuerzas abrumadoras serán barridas ante él y destruidas, así como también el príncipe del pacto.

Before him the overwhelming forces of invading armies shall be broken and utterly swept away; yes, and a prince of the covenant also.

23 Y después que se haya hecho alianza con él, actuará con engaño, y subirá y ganará poder con poca gente.

And from the time that an alliance is made with him he shall work deceitfully, and he shall come up unexpectedly and shall become strong with a small people.

24 E n un tiempo de tranquilidad entrará en los lugares más ricos de la provincia, y logrará lo que nunca lograron sus padres, ni los padres de sus padres. Repartirá entre ellos despojos, botín y riquezas, y contra las fortalezas planeará sus intrigas, pero sólo por un tiempo.

Without warning and stealthily he shall come into the most productive places of a province or among the richest men of a province, and he shall do that which his fathers have not done nor his fathers’ fathers; he shall distribute among them plunder, spoil, and goods. He shall devise plans against strongholds—but only for a time.

25 V a a usar su fuerza y su corazón contra el rey del sur con un gran ejército. Y el rey del sur movilizará para la guerra un ejército muy grande y muy poderoso, pero no podrá resistir, porque planearán intrigas contra él.

And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South with a great army; and the king of the South shall wage war with an exceedingly great and mighty army, but he shall not stand, for schemes shall be devised against.

26 Y los que comen de sus manjares lo destruirán. Su ejército será barrido y muchos caerán muertos.

Yes, those who eat of his rich and dainty food shall break and destroy him, and his army shall drift or turn away to flee, and many shall fall down slain.

27 E n cuanto a los dos reyes, en sus corazones tramarán el mal, y en la misma mesa se hablarán mentiras. Pero esto no tendrá éxito, porque el fin aún ha de venir en el tiempo señalado.

And as for both of these kings, their hearts and minds shall be set on doing mischief; they shall speak lies over the same table, but it will not succeed, for the end is yet to be at the time appointed.

28 E ntonces volverá a su tierra con grandes riquezas, pero pondrá su corazón contra el pacto santo. Actuará contra éste, y volverá a su tierra.

Then shall return into his land with much booty; and his heart and purpose shall be set against holy covenant, and he shall accomplish and return to his own land.

29 “ En el tiempo señalado volverá y entrará en el sur, pero esta última vez no resultará como la primera.

At the time appointed he shall return and come into the South, but it shall not be successful as were the former invasions.

30 P orque vendrán contra él naves de Quitim (Chipre), y se desanimará. Volverá y se enfurecerá contra el pacto santo y actuará contra él; volverá, pues, y favorecerá a los que abandonen el pacto santo.

For the ships of Kittim shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved and discouraged and turn back and carry out his rage and indignation against the holy covenant and God’s people, and he shall do his own pleasure; he shall even turn back and make common cause with those who abandon the holy covenant.

31 Y de su parte se levantarán tropas, profanarán el santuario fortaleza, pondrán fin al sacrificio perpetuo y establecerán la abominación de la desolación.

And armed forces of his shall appear and they shall pollute the sanctuary, the stronghold, and shall take away the continual; and they shall set up the abomination that astonishes and makes desolate.

32 C on halagos corromperá a los que obran inicuamente hacia el pacto, pero el pueblo que conoce a su Dios se mostrará fuerte y actuará.

And such as violate the covenant he shall pervert and seduce with flatteries, but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits.

33 L os entendidos entre el pueblo instruirán a muchos. Sin embargo, durante muchos días caerán a espada y a fuego, en cautiverio y despojo.

And they who are wise and understanding among the people shall instruct many and make them understand, though some shall fall by the sword and flame, by captivity and plunder, for many days.

34 C uando caigan, recibirán poca ayuda, y muchos se unirán a ellos hipócritamente.

Now when they fall, they shall receive a little help. Many shall join themselves to them with flatteries and hypocrisies.

35 T ambién algunos de los entendidos caerán, a fin de ser refinados, purificados y emblanquecidos hasta el tiempo del fin. Porque aún está por venir el tiempo señalado.

And some of those who are wise, prudent, and understanding shall be weakened and fall, to refine, to purify, and to make those among white, even to the time of the end, because it is yet for the time appointed.

36 “ El rey hará lo que le plazca, se enaltecerá y se engrandecerá sobre todo dios, y contra el Dios de los dioses dirá cosas horrendas. El prosperará hasta que se haya acabado la indignación, porque lo que está decretado se cumplirá.

And the king shall do according to his will; he shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished, for that which is determined shall be done.

37 N o le importarán los dioses de sus padres ni el favorito de las mujeres, tampoco le importará ningún otro dios, porque él se ensalzará sobre todos ellos.

He shall not regard the gods of his fathers or Him women desire or any other god, for he shall magnify himself above all.

38 E n su lugar honrará al dios de las fortalezas, un dios a quien sus padres no conocieron; lo honrará con oro y plata, piedras preciosas y cosas de gran valor.

But in their place he shall honor the god of fortresses; a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold and silver, with precious stones, and with pleasant and expensive things.

39 A ctuará contra la más fuerte de las fortalezas con la ayuda de un dios extranjero. A los que lo reconozcan colmará de honores, los hará gobernar sobre muchos y repartirá la tierra por un precio.

And he shall deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god. Those who acknowledge him he shall magnify with glory and honor, and he shall cause them to rule over many and shall divide the land for a price.

40 “ Y al tiempo del fin, el rey del sur se enfrentará con él, y el rey del norte lo atacará con carros, jinetes y con numerosas naves. Entrará en sus tierras, las invadirá y pasará.

And at the time of the end the king of the South shall push at and attack him, and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots and horsemen and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries and shall overflow and pass through.

41 T ambién entrará a la Tierra Hermosa (Palestina), y muchos países caerán. Pero éstos serán librados de su mano: Edom, Moab y lo más selecto de los Amonitas.

He shall enter into the Glorious Land and many shall be overthrown, but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, Moab, and the main of the people of Ammon.

42 Y extenderá su mano contra otros países, y la tierra de Egipto no escapará.

He shall stretch out his hand also against the countries, but the land of Egypt shall not be among the escaped ones.

43 S e apoderará de los tesoros ocultos de oro y plata y de todas las cosas preciosas de Egipto. Libios y Etíopes seguirán sus pasos.

But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver and over all the precious things of Egypt, and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall accompany him.

44 P ero rumores del oriente y del norte lo turbarán, y saldrá con gran furor para destruir y aniquilar a muchos.

But rumors from the east and from the north shall alarm and hasten him. And he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to sweep away many.

45 Y plantará las tiendas de su pabellón entre los mares y el monte glorioso y santo. Pero llegará a su fin y no habrá quien lo ayude.

And he shall pitch his palatial tents between the seas and the glorious holy Mount; yet he shall come to his end with none to help him.
