1 E ntonces se acercaron todos los jefes de las tropas, Johanán, hijo de Carea, Jezanías, hijo de Osaías, y todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan son of Kareah and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest came near

2 y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: “Llegue ahora ante ti nuestra súplica, y ruega al Señor tu Dios por nosotros, por todo este remanente, porque quedamos pocos de muchos que éramos, como pueden ver tus ojos,

And said to Jeremiah the prophet, We beseech you that you will let our supplication be presented before you and that you will pray to the Lord your God for us, even for all this remnant; for whereas we were once many, there are but a few of us left, as you see with your eyes.

3 p ara que el Señor tu Dios nos indique el camino por donde debemos ir y lo que debemos hacer.”

that the Lord your God may show us the way in which we should walk and the thing that we should do.

4 E ntonces el profeta Jeremías les dijo: “ Los he oído. Voy a orar al Señor su Dios conforme a sus palabras, y todas las palabras que el Señor les responda, yo se las declararé. No les ocultaré palabra alguna.”

Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to the Lord your God according to your words; and it will be that whatever thing the Lord will answer you, I will declare it to you; I will keep nothing back from you.

5 Y ellos dijeron a Jeremías: “Que el Señor sea un testigo veraz y fiel contra nosotros si no obramos conforme a toda palabra que el Señor tu Dios te mande para nosotros.

Then they said to Jeremiah, May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we fail to do according to all the things that the Lord your God sends you to tell us.

6 S ea buena o mala, escucharemos la voz del Señor nuestro Dios a quien te enviamos, para que nos vaya bien cuando escuchemos la voz del Señor nuestro Dios.”

Whether it is good or evil, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God, to Whom we are sending you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God.

7 D espués de diez días, vino la palabra del Señor a Jeremías.

And after ten days the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.

8 E ntonces llamó a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a todos los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él, y a todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

Then he called Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces that were with him and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

9 y Jeremías les dijo: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel, a quien me enviaron para presentar delante de El la súplica de ustedes:

And said to them, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to Whom you sent me to present your supplication before Him:

10 ‘ Si se quedan en esta tierra, entonces los edificaré y no los derribaré, los plantaré y no los arrancaré, porque estoy arrepentido del mal que les he hecho.

If you will remain in this land, then I will build you up and not pull you down, and I will plant you and not pull you up; for I will relent and comfort and ease Myself concerning the evil that I have done to you.

11 N o teman al rey de Babilonia, a quien temen; no le teman,’ declara el Señor, ‘porque Yo estoy con ustedes para salvarlos y librarlos de su mano.

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are fearful; be not afraid of him, says the Lord, for I am with you to save you and to deliver you from his hand.

12 T ambién tendré compasión de ustedes, para que él les tenga compasión y los restaure a la tierra de ustedes.

And I will grant mercy to you, that he may have mercy on you and permit you to remain in your own land.

13 P ero si dicen: “No nos quedaremos en esta tierra,” no obedeciendo así la voz del Señor su Dios,

But if you say, We will not dwell in this land, and so disobey the voice of the Lord your God,

14 y dicen: “No, sino que iremos a la tierra de Egipto, donde no veremos guerra, ni oiremos el sonido de la trompeta, ni tendremos hambre de pan, y allí nos quedaremos”;

Saying, No, but we will go to the land of Egypt, where we will not see war or hear the sound of the trumpet or be hungry for bread, and we will dwell there,

15 e n este caso, oigan la palabra del Señor, remanente de Judá. Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Si se obstinan en entrar en Egipto, y entran para residir allí,

Then hear the word of the Lord, O remnant of Judah. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: If you are fully determined to go to Egypt and you do go to dwell there temporarily,

16 e ntonces sucederá que la espada que ustedes temen, los alcanzará allí en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre que les preocupa, les seguirá de cerca allí en Egipto, y allí morirán.

Then the sword which you fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine of which you are afraid shall follow close after you to Egypt and in it, and there you shall die.

17 “ Así pues, todos los hombres que se obstinen en ir a Egipto para residir allí, morirán a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia. No les quedará sobreviviente ni quien escape del mal que voy a traer sobre ellos.”’”

So will it be with all the men who set their faces to go to Egypt to dwell there temporarily; they will die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence; none of them will remain or survive the evil that I will bring upon them.

18 P orque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Como se derramó Mi ira y Mi furor sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén, así se derramará Mi furor sobre ustedes cuando entren en Egipto. Y serán motivo de maldición, de horror, de imprecación y de oprobio, y no verán más este lugar.”

For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: As My anger and My wrath have been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall My wrath be poured forth upon you when you enter Egypt. You shall be a detested thing, an astonishment and horror, a curse, a thing lightly esteemed and a taunt and a reproach; you shall see this place no more.

19 E l Señor les ha hablado, remanente de Judá: “No entren en Egipto.” Sépanlo bien, que hoy lo he declarado contra ustedes.

The Lord has said to you, O remnant of Judah, Do not go to Egypt. Know for a certainty that I have warned and testified to you this day

20 P orque se engañan a sí mismos, pues ustedes fueron los que me enviaron al Señor su Dios, diciendo: “Ruega por nosotros al Señor nuestro Dios, y lo que el Señor nuestro Dios diga, nos lo haces saber y lo haremos.”

That you have dealt deceitfully against your own lives; for you sent me to the Lord your God, saying, Pray for us to the Lord our God; and whatever the Lord our God says, declare it to us and we will do it.

21 Y hoy se lo he declarado, pero no han escuchado la voz del Señor su Dios, ni en cosa alguna de lo que El me ha enviado a decir les.

And I have this day declared it to you, but you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God in anything that He sent me to tell you.

22 A hora pues, sépanlo bien, que morirán a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia en el lugar adonde desean ir a residir.

Now therefore know for a certainty that you shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence in the place where you desire to go to dwell temporarily.
