1 A cab tenía setenta hijos en Samaria. Y Jehú escribió cartas y las envió a Samaria, a los príncipes de Jezreel, a los ancianos y a los preceptores de los hijos de Acab, diciendo:

Ahab had seventy in Samaria. So Jehu wrote letters and sent them from Jezreel to the rulers of Samaria, to the elders, and to those who brought up Ahab’s, saying,

2 “ Ahora, cuando esta carta llegue a ustedes, como los hijos de su señor están con ustedes, así como también los carros y los caballos y una ciudad fortificada y las armas,

Now as soon as this letter comes to you, seeing your master sons are with you and also chariots and horses, a fortified city, and weapons,

3 e scojan al mejor y más capaz de entre los hijos de su señor, y póngan lo en el trono de su padre, y luchen por la casa de su señor.”

Select the best and most fit of your master’s sons and set him on his father’s throne; and fight for your master’s house.

4 P ero ellos temieron en gran manera y dijeron: “Si los dos reyes no pudieron sostenerse delante de él; ¿cómo, pues, podremos sostenernos nosotros?”

But they were exceedingly afraid and reasoned, The two kings could not stand before; how then can we stand?

5 Y el que estaba a cargo de la casa, y el que estaba sobre la ciudad, los ancianos, y los preceptores de los hijos, enviaron palabra a Jehú, diciendo: “Somos sus siervos, haremos todo lo que nos digas, a nadie proclamaremos rey. Haga usted lo que le parezca bien.”

And he who was over the household, he who was over the city, the elders also, and the guardians and tutors sent to Jehu, saying, We are your servants and will do all that you bid us; we will not make any man king; do what is good in your eyes.

6 E ntonces por segunda vez les escribió una carta, diciendo: “Si están de mi parte y escuchan mi voz, tomen las cabezas de los hombres, de los hijos de su señor, y vengan a verme a Jezreel mañana a estas horas.” Y los hijos del rey, setenta personas, estaban con los principales de la ciudad, que los criaban.

Then wrote a second letter to them, saying, If you are with me and will obey me, take the heads of your master sons and come to me at Jezreel by tomorrow this time. Now the king’s sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were bringing them up.

7 C uando les llegó la carta, tomaron a los hijos del rey y los degollaron, setenta personas, pusieron sus cabezas en canastas y se las enviaron a Jehú en Jezreel.

When the letter came to these men, they took the king’s sons and slew them, seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets and sent them to Jehu at Jezreel.

8 C uando el mensajero vino y le avisó: “Han traído las cabezas de los hijos del rey,” él dijo: “Pónganlas en dos montones a la entrada de la puerta hasta la mañana.”

When a messenger came and told him, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons, he said, Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the city gate until morning.

9 P or la mañana, Jehú salió, y estando en pie, dijo a todo el pueblo: “Ustedes son inocentes; porque yo conspiré contra mi señor y lo maté, pero, ¿quién mató a todos éstos?

The next morning he went out and stood and said to all the people, You are just and innocent. Behold, I conspired against my master and slew him, but who smote all these?

10 S epan entonces que no caerá a tierra ninguna de las palabras del Señor, las cuales el Señor habló acerca de la casa de Acab. El Señor ha hecho lo que habló por medio de Su siervo Elías.”

Know now that nothing which the Lord spoke concerning the house of Ahab shall be unfulfilled or ineffective; for the Lord has done what He said through His servant Elijah.

11 J ehú mató a todos los que quedaban de la casa de Acab en Jezreel, y a todos sus grandes, a sus amigos íntimos y a sus sacerdotes, hasta que no le dejó ningún sobreviviente.

So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, his familiar friends, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.

12 D espués Jehú se levantó y partió, y fue a Samaria. En el camino mientras estaba en Bet Eked de los pastores,

And he arose and went to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house of the shepherds on the way,

13 s e encontró con los parientes de Ocozías, rey de Judá, y les preguntó: “¿Quiénes son ustedes?” Y ellos respondieron: “Somos parientes de Ocozías; y hemos descendido para saludar a los hijos del rey y a los hijos de la reina madre.”

Jehu met the kinsmen of Ahaziah king of Judah and said, Who are you? They answered, We are the kinsmen of Ahaziah, and we came down to visit the royal princes and the sons of the queen mother.

14 E ntonces Jehú dijo: “Tómenlos vivos.” Y los tomaron vivos, y los mataron en el foso de Bet Eked, cuarenta y dos hombres. No dejó ninguno de ellos.

He said, Take them alive. And they did so and slew them at the cistern of the shearing house, forty-two men; he left none of them.

15 C uando partió de allí, Jehú se encontró con Jonadab, hijo de Recab, que venía a su encuentro, lo saludó y le dijo: “¿Es recto tu corazón como mi corazón es con el tuyo?” Y Jonadab respondió: “Lo es.” Y Jehú dijo: “Si lo es, da me la mano.” Y le dio su mano y lo hizo subir al carro.

When Jehu left there, he met Jehonadab son of Rechab coming to meet him. He saluted him and said to him, Is your heart right, as my heart is with yours? Jehonadab answered, It is. If it is, give me your hand. He gave him his hand, and Jehu took him up into the chariot.

16 Y él dijo: “Ven conmigo y verás mi celo por el Señor.” Y lo hizo ir con él en su carro.

And he said, Come with me and see my zeal for the Lord. So they made ride in Jehu’s chariot.

17 C uando llegó a Samaria, mató a todos los que quedaban de Acab en Samaria, hasta acabar con ellos, conforme a la palabra que el Señor había hablado a Elías.

When Jehu came to Samaria, he slew all who remained of Ahab’s family in Samaria, till he had destroyed them all, according to what the Lord said to Elijah.

18 E ntonces Jehú reunió a todo el pueblo, y les dijo: “Acab sirvió a Baal un poco, Jehú lo servirá mucho.

Jehu assembled all the people and said to them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu will serve him much.

19 L lamen ahora a todos los profetas de Baal, a todos sus adoradores y a todos sus sacerdotes. Que no falte ninguno, porque tengo un gran sacrificio para Baal; todo el que falte no vivirá.” Pero Jehú lo hizo con astucia para poder destruir a los adoradores de Baal.

So call to me all the prophets of Baal, all his worshipers, and all his priests. Let none be missing, for I have a great sacrifice to make to Baal; whoever is missing shall not live. But Jehu did it with trickery, intending to destroy the Baal worshipers.

20 Y Jehú dijo: “Santifiquen una asamblea solemne para Baal.” Y ellos la convocaron.

Jehu said, Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.

21 E ntonces Jehú envió aviso por todo Israel y vinieron todos los adoradores de Baal, y no quedó ninguno que no viniera. Y cuando entraron en la casa de Baal, la casa de Baal se llenó de un extremo al otro.

Jehu sent through all Israel, and all the worshipers of Baal came; not a man failed to come. They went to the house or temple of Baal, filling it from one end to the other.

22 Y dijo al que estaba encargado del vestuario: “Saca vestiduras para todos los adoradores de Baal.” Y él les sacó vestiduras.

And he said to the man over the vestry, Bring vestments for all the worshipers of Baal. And he brought them vestments.

23 J ehú entró en la casa de Baal con Jonadab, hijo de Recab; y dijo a los adoradores de Baal: “Busquen y vean que no haya aquí con ustedes ninguno de los siervos del Señor, sino sólo los adoradores de Baal.”

Then Jehu with Jehonadab son of Rechab went into the house of Baal and said to the worshipers of Baal, Search and see that there are here with you none of the servants of the Lord—but Baal worshipers only.

24 E ntonces entraron a ofrecer sacrificios y holocaustos. Y Jehú había colocado ochenta hombres afuera, y había dicho: “El que permita escapar a uno de los hombres que yo ponga en manos de ustedes, dará su vida por la de él.”

And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed eighty men outside and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he who lets him go shall forfeit his own life for his life.

25 T an pronto como acabó de ofrecer el holocausto, Jehú dijo a la guardia y a los oficiales reales: “Entren, mátenlos; que ninguno salga.” Y los mataron a filo de espada; y la guardia y los oficiales reales los echaron fuera, y llegaron hasta el aposento interior de la casa de Baal.

As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to the guards and to the officers, Go in and slay them; let none escape. And they smote them with the sword; and the guards or runners and the officers threw their bodies out and went into the inner dwelling of the house of Baal.

26 S acaron los pilares sagrados de la casa de Baal, y los quemaron.

They brought out the pillars or obelisks of the house of Baal and burned them.

27 T ambién derribaron el pilar sagrado de Baal y demolieron la casa de Baal, y la convirtieron en una letrina, hasta hoy.

They broke down the pillars of Baal and the house of Baal, and made it a privy to this day.

28 A sí Jehú extirpó a Baal de Israel.

Thus Jehu rooted Baal out of Israel.

29 S in embargo, en cuanto a los pecados con que Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, hizo pecar a Israel, Jehú no se apartó de éstos, o sea, de los becerros de oro que estaban en Betel (Casa de Dios) y en Dan.

But Jehu did not give up the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, by which he made Israel to sin, that is, the golden calves at Bethel and Dan.

30 Y el Señor dijo a Jehú: “Porque has hecho bien al hacer lo recto ante Mis ojos, y has hecho a la casa de Acab conforme a todo lo que estaba en Mi corazón, tus hijos hasta la cuarta generación se sentarán en el trono de Israel.”

And the Lord said to Jehu, Because you have executed well what is right in My eyes and have done to the house of Ahab as I willed, your sons to the fourth generation shall sit on Israel’s throne.

31 P ero Jehú no se cuidó de andar en la ley del Señor, Dios de Israel, con todo su corazón, ni se apartó de los pecados con que Jeroboam hizo pecar a Israel.

But Jehu paid no attention to walking in the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not quit the sins with which Jeroboam made Israel to sin.

32 E n aquellos días el Señor comenzó a cortar partes de Israel; y Hazael los derrotó por todo el territorio de Israel:

in those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel. Hazael defeated them in all the territory of Israel

33 d esde el Jordán hacia el oriente, toda la tierra de Galaad, de Gad, de Rubén y de Manasés; desde Aroer, que está junto al Valle del Arnón, y hasta Galaad y Basán.

From the Jordan east, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, Reubenites, and Manassites, from Aroer which is by the Valley of the Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.

34 L os demás hechos de Jehú, y todo lo que hizo y todo su poder, ¿no están escritos en el Libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

The rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

35 Y durmió Jehú con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en Samaria. Y su hijo Joacaz reinó en su lugar.

Jehu slept with his fathers. They buried him in Samaria. Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.

36 E l tiempo que Jehú reinó sobre Israel en Samaria fue de veintiocho años.

The time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.
