1 E stas son las últimas palabras de David: “Declara David, el hijo de Isaí, Y declara el hombre que fue exaltado, El ungido del Dios de Jacob, El dulce salmista de Israel:

Now these are the last words of David: David son of Jesse says, and the man who was raised on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, says,

2 E l Espíritu del Señor habló por mí, Y Su palabra estuvo en mi lengua.

The Spirit of the Lord spoke in and by me, and His word was upon my tongue.

3 D ijo el Dios de Israel, Me habló la Roca de Israel: ‘El que con justicia gobierna sobre los hombres, Que en el temor de Dios gobierna,

The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me, When one rules over men righteously, ruling in the fear of God,

4 E s como la luz de la mañana cuando se levanta el sol En una mañana sin nubes, Cuando brota de la tierra la tierna hierba Por el resplandor del sol tras la lluvia.’

He dawns on them like the morning light when the sun rises on a cloudless morning, when the tender grass springs out of the earth through clear shining after rain.

5 E n verdad, ¿no es así mi casa para con Dios? Pues El ha hecho conmigo un pacto eterno, Ordenado en todo y seguro. Porque toda mi salvación y todo mi deseo, ¿No los hará ciertamente germinar?

Truly does not my house stand so with God? For He has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure. For will He not cause to prosper all my help and my desire?

6 P ero los indignos, todos ellos serán arrojados como espinos, Porque no pueden ser tomados con la mano;

But wicked, godless, and worthless lives are all like thorns to be thrust away, because they cannot be taken with the hand.

7 Y el hombre que los toque Ha de estar armado con hierro y con asta de lanza, Y por fuego serán consumidos completamente en su lugar.” Los Valientes de David

But the man who touches them arms himself with iron and the shaft of a spear, and they are utterly consumed with fire on the spot.

8 E stos son los nombres de los valientes que tenía David: Joseb Basebet el Tacmonita, principal de los capitanes; éste era llamado Adino el Eznita, por los 800 que mató una vez.

These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshebeth, a Tahchemonite, chief of the Three, known also as Adino the Eznite; he wielded his spear and went against 800 men, who were slain at one time.

9 Y después de él, Eleazar, hijo de Dodo el Ahohíta, uno de los tres valientes que estaban con David cuando desafiaron a los Filisteos que se habían reunido allí para la batalla y se habían retirado los hombres de Israel.

Next to him among the three mighty men was Eleazar son of Dodo, son of Ahohi. He was with David when they defied the Philistines assembled there for battle, and the men of Israel had departed.

10 E l se levantó e hirió a los Filisteos hasta que su mano se cansó y se quedó pegada a la espada; aquel día el Señor concedió una gran victoria. El pueblo volvió en pos de él, pero sólo para despojar a los muertos.

arose and struck down the Philistines until his hand was weary and clung to the sword. The Lord wrought a great deliverance and victory that day; the men returned after him only to take the spoil.

11 D espués de él, fue Sama, hijo de Age el Ararita. Los Filisteos se habían concentrado en tropa donde había un terreno lleno de lentejas, y el pueblo había huido de los Filisteos.

Next to was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines were gathered at Lehi on a piece of ground full of lentils; and the fled from the Philistines.

12 P ero él se puso en medio del terreno, lo defendió e hirió a los Filisteos; y el Señor le concedió una gran victoria.

But he stood in the midst of the ground and defended it and slew the Philistines; and the Lord wrought a great victory.

13 D escendieron tres de los treinta jefes y fueron a David en la cueva de Adulam al tiempo de la cosecha, mientras la tropa de los Filisteos acampaba en el Valle de Refaím.

And three of the thirty chief men went down at harvest time to David in the cave of Adullam, and a troop of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.

14 D avid estaba entonces en la fortaleza, mientras la guarnición de los Filisteos estaba en Belén (Casa del Pan).

And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

15 D avid sintió un gran deseo, y dijo: “¡Quién me diera a beber agua del pozo de Belén que está junto a la puerta!”

And David said longingly, Oh, that someone would give me a drink of water from the well of Bethlehem by the gate!

16 E ntonces los tres valientes se abrieron paso por el campamento de los Filisteos, y sacando agua del pozo de Belén que estaba junto a la puerta, se la llevaron y la trajeron a David. Pero él no quiso beberla, sino que la derramó para el Señor,

And the three mighty men broke through the army of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem by the gate and brought it to David. But he would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord.

17 y dijo: “Lejos esté de mí, oh Señor, que yo haga esto. ¿ Beberé la sangre de los hombres que fueron con riesgo de sus vidas?” Por eso no quiso beberla. Estas cosas hicieron los tres valientes.

And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, to drink this. Is it not the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives? So he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.

18 Y Abisai, hermano de Joab, hijo de Sarvia, era jefe de los treinta. Y éste blandió su lanza contra 300 y los mató, y tuvo tanto renombre como los tres.

Now Abishai the brother of Joab son of Zeruiah was chief of the Three. He wielded his spear against 300 men and slew them, and won a name beside the Three.

19 E l era el más distinguido de los treinta, por eso llegó a ser su jefe; pero no igualó a los tres primeros.

Was he not most renowned of the Three? So he was their captain; however, he did not attain to the Three.

20 B enaía, hijo de Joiada, hijo de un valiente de Cabseel, de grandes hazañas, mató a los dos hijos de Ariel de Moab. Y él descendió y mató a un león en medio de un foso un día que estaba nevando.

And Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many notable acts, slew two lionlike men of Moab. He went down also and slew a lion in a pit on a snowy day.

21 T ambién mató a un Egipcio, un hombre de apariencia impresionante. El Egipcio tenía una lanza en la mano, pero Benaía descendió a él con un palo, y arrebatando la lanza de la mano del Egipcio, lo mató con su propia lanza.

And he slew an Egyptian, a handsome man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand, but Benaiah went down to him with a staff, snatched the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew the man with his own spear.

22 E stas cosas hizo Benaía, hijo de Joiada, y tuvo tanto renombre como los tres valientes.

These things Benaiah son of Jehoiada did, and won a name beside the three mighty men.

23 F ue el más distinguido entre los treinta, pero no igualó a los tres; y David lo puso sobre su guardia.

He was more renowned than the Thirty, but he attained not to the Three. David set him over his guard or council.

24 A sael, hermano de Joab, estaba entre los treinta; también, Elhanán, hijo de Dodo de Belén,

Asahel brother of Joab was one of the Thirty; then Elhanan son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

25 S ama el Harodita, Elica el Harodita,

Shammah of Harod, Elika of Harod,

26 H eles el Paltita, Ira, hijo de Iques el Tecoíta,

Helez the Paltite, Ira son of Ikkesh of Tekoa,

27 A biezer el Anatotita, Mebunai el Husatita,

Abiezer of Anathoth, Mebunnai the Hushathite,

28 S almón el Ahohíta, Maharai el Netofatita,

Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai of Netophah,

29 H eleb, hijo de Baana el Netofatita, Itai, hijo de Ribai de Guibeá de los Benjamitas,

Heleb son of Baanah of Netophah, Ittai son of Ribai of Gibeah of the Benjamites.

30 B enaía el Piratonita, Hidai de los arroyos de Gaas,

Benaiah of Pirathon, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,

31 A bi Albón el Arbatita, Azmavet el Barhumita,

Abi-albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,

32 E liaba el Saalbonita, los hijos de Jasén, Jonatán,

Eliahba of Shaalbon, the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,

33 S ama el Ararita, Ahíam, hijo de Sarar el Ararita,

Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam son of Sharar the Hararite,
