1 D espués de estas cosas, en el reinado de Artajerjes, rey de Persia, subió Esdras hijo de Seraías, hijo de Azarías, hijo de Hilcías,

Now after this, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

2 h ijo de Salum, hijo de Sadoc, hijo de Ahitob,

The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,

3 h ijo de Amarías, hijo de Azarías, hijo de Meraiot,

The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,

4 h ijo de Zeraías, hijo de Uzi, hijo de Buqui,

The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,

5 h ijo de Abisúa, hijo de Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, sumo sacerdote.

The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest—

6 E ste Esdras subió de Babilonia, y era escriba experto en la ley de Moisés, que el Señor, Dios de Israel, había dado. El rey le concedió todo lo que pedía porque la mano del Señor su Dios estaba sobre él.

This Ezra went up from Babylon. He was a skilled scribe in the five books of Moses, which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given. And the king granted him all he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was upon him.

7 T ambién algunos de los Israelitas y de los sacerdotes, Levitas, cantores, porteros y sirvientes del templo subieron a Jerusalén en el año séptimo del rey Artajerjes.

And also some of the Israelites, with some of the priests and Levites, the singers and gatekeepers, and the temple servants, went up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

8 E sdras llegó a Jerusalén en el mes quinto; era el año séptimo del rey.

Ezra came to Jerusalem in the fifth month of the seventh year of the king.

9 P orque el primer día del mes primero comenzó a subir de Babilonia; y el primer día del mes quinto llegó a Jerusalén, pues la mano bondadosa de su Dios estaba sobre él,

On the first of the first month he started out from Babylon, and on the first of the fifth month he arrived in Jerusalem, for upon him was the good hand of his God.

10 p orque Esdras había dedicado su corazón a estudiar la ley del Señor, y a practicar la, y a enseñar Sus estatutos y ordenanzas en Israel.

For Ezra had prepared and set his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do and teach in Israel its statutes and its ordinances.

11 E sta es la copia del decreto que el rey Artajerjes dio al sacerdote Esdras, el escriba, instruido en las palabras de los mandamientos del Señor y de Sus estatutos para Israel:

Now this is the copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe the words of the commands of the Lord and of His statutes to Israel:

12 “ Artajerjes, rey de reyes, al sacerdote Esdras, escriba de la ley del Dios del cielo: Paz perfecta. Y ahora

Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, scribe of the instructions of the God of heaven: Greetings.

13 y o he proclamado un decreto de que cualquiera del pueblo de Israel, de sus sacerdotes y de los Levitas en mi reino que esté dispuesto a ir a Jerusalén, puede ir contigo.

I make a decree that all of the people of Israel and of their priests and Levites in my realm, who offer freely to go up to Jerusalem, may go with you.

14 P or cuanto eres enviado por el rey y sus siete consejeros para investigar acerca de Judá y de Jerusalén conforme a la ley de tu Dios que está en tu mano,

For you are sent by the king and his seven counselors to inquire about Judah and Jerusalem according to the instruction of your God, which is in your hand,

15 y para llevar la plata y el oro que el rey y sus consejeros han ofrendado voluntariamente al Dios de Israel, cuya morada está en Jerusalén,

And to carry the silver and gold which the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, Whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,

16 t ambién lleva toda la plata y el oro que halles en toda la provincia de Babilonia, con la ofrenda voluntaria que el pueblo y los sacerdotes hayan ofrecido voluntariamente para la casa de su Dios que está en Jerusalén.

And all the silver and gold that you may find in all the province of Babylonia, with the freewill offerings of the people and of the priests, offered willingly for the house of their God in Jerusalem.

17 C on este dinero diligentemente comprarás novillos, carneros y corderos, con sus ofrendas de cereal y sus libaciones correspondientes, y los ofrecerás sobre el altar de la casa del Dios de ustedes que está en Jerusalén.

Therefore you shall with all speed and exactness buy with this money young bulls, rams, lambs, with their cereal offerings and drink offerings, and offer them on the altar of the house of your God in Jerusalem.

18 Y lo que a ti y a tus hermanos les parezca bien hacer con la plata y el oro que quede, háganlo conforme a la voluntad de su Dios.

And whatever shall seem good to you and to your brethren to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.

19 T ambién los utensilios que te son entregados para el servicio de la casa de tu Dios, entrégalos todos delante del Dios de Jerusalén.

The vessels also that are given to you for the service of the house of your God, those deliver before the God of Jerusalem.

20 L o demás que se necesite para la casa de tu Dios, para lo cual tengas ocasión de proveer, provéelo del tesoro real.

And whatever more shall be needful for the house of your God which you shall have occasion to provide, provide it out of the king’s treasury.

21 “ Yo, el rey Artajerjes, proclamo un decreto a todos los tesoreros que están en las provincias más allá del Río (Eufrates), que todo lo que les pida el sacerdote Esdras, escriba de la ley del Dios del cielo, sea hecho puntualmente,

And I, Artaxerxes the king, make a decree to all the treasurers in the province beyond the River that whatever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the instructions of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it shall be done exactly and at once—

22 h asta 3. 4 toneladas de plata, 22, 000 litros (100 coros) de trigo, 2, 200 litros (100 batos) de vino, 2, 200 litros de aceite y sal sin medida.

Up to 100 talents of silver, 100 measures of wheat, 100 baths of wine, 100 baths of oil, and salt not specified.

23 T odo cuanto ordene el Dios del cielo, sea hecho con esmero para la casa del Dios del cielo, no sea que venga la ira contra el reino del rey y sus hijos.

Whatever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be done diligently and honorably for the house of the God of heaven, lest His wrath be against the realm of the king and his sons.

24 T ambién les hacemos saber que no se permite cobrar tributo, impuesto o peaje a ninguno de los sacerdotes, Levitas, cantores, porteros, sirvientes, o ministros de esta casa de Dios.

Also we notify you that as to any of the priests and Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants, or other servants of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll on them.

25 Y tú, Esdras, conforme a la sabiduría que posees de tu Dios, nombra magistrados y jueces para juzgar a todo el pueblo que está en la provincia más allá del Río, a todos los que conocen las leyes de tu Dios; y a cualquiera que las ignore, se las enseñarás.

You, Ezra, after the wisdom of your God, which is in your hand, set magistrates and judges who may judge all the people of the River; choose those who know the instructions of your God, and teach him who does not know them.

26 T odo aquél que no cumpla la ley de tu Dios y la ley del rey, que la justicia se le aplique severamente, sea para muerte o destierro o confiscación de bienes o encarcelamiento.”

And whoever will not do the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be executed upon him exactly and speedily, whether it be unto death or banishment or confiscation of goods or imprisonment.

27 B endito sea el Señor, Dios de nuestros padres, que ha puesto esto en el corazón del rey, para embellecer la casa del Señor que está en Jerusalén,

Blessed be the Lord, the God of our fathers, Who put such a thing as this into the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the Lord in Jerusalem,

28 y que me ha extendido misericordia delante del rey y de sus consejeros y delante de todos los príncipes poderosos del rey. Así fui fortalecido según estaba la mano del Señor mi Dios sobre mí, y reuní a los jefes de Israel para que subieran conmigo.

And Who has extended His mercy and steadfast love to me before the king, his counselors, and all the king’s mighty officers. I was strengthened and encouraged, for the hand of the Lord my God was upon me, and I gathered together outstanding men of Israel to go with me to Jerusalem.
