1 А оце те, що посіли Ізраїлеві сини в ханаанському Краї, що дали їм на спадок священик Елеазар, і Ісус, син Навинів, та голови батьків племен Ізраїлевих синів.

These are the inheritances in the land of Canaan distributed to the Israelites by Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of their tribes.

2 Ж еребком приділили їхній спадок, як наказав був Господь через Мойсея, дев'яти племенам і половині племени.

Their inheritance was by lot, as the Lord commanded Moses, for the nine and one-half tribes.

3 Б о дав Мойсей насліддя двох племен, та половини племени по той бік Йордану, а Левитам спадку не дав серед них.

For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them,

4 Б о Йосипових синів було двоє поколінь, Манасія та Єфрем, а Левитам не дали спадку в Краю, а тільки міста на оселення та їхні пасовиська для їхньої худоби та для їхнього маєтку.

For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And no part was given in the land to the Levites except cities in which to live, with their pasturelands for their livestock and for their possessions.

5 Я к наказав був Господь Мойсеєві, так зробили Ізраїлеві сини, та й поділили Край.

As the Lord commanded Moses, so the Israelites did, and they divided the land.

6 І підійшли Юдині сини до Ісуса в Ґілґалі, та й сказав до нього Калев, син Єфуннеїв, кеназзеянин: Ти знаєш те слово, що Господь говорив до Мойсея, Божого чоловіка, про мене та про тебе в Кадеш-Барнеа.

Then the people of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God concerning me and you in Kadesh-barnea.

7 Я був віку сорока літ, коли Мойсей, раб Господній, посилав мене з Кадеш-Барнеа вивідати той Край. І я доклав йому справу, як було в серці моїм.

Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to scout out the land. And I brought him a report as it was in my heart.

8 А мої браття, що ходили зо мною, знесилили були серце народу, а я обставав за Господом, Богом моїм.

But my brethren who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God.

9 І присягнув Мойсей того дня, говорячи: Поправді кажу, той Край, що нога твоя ходила в ньому, буде на спадок тобі та синам твоїм аж навіки, бо ти обставав за Господом, Богом моїм.

And Moses swore on that day, Surely the land on which your feet have walked shall be an inheritance to you and your children always, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.

10 А тепер оце Господь позоставив мене при житті, як говорив. Оце сорок і п'ять літ відтоді, як Господь говорив був це слово Мойсеєві, коли Ізраїль ходив у пустині. А тепер ось я віку восьмидесяти й п'яти літ.

And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years since the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while the Israelites wandered in the wilderness; and now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.

11 С ьогодні я ще сильний, як того дня, коли Мойсей посилав мене, яка сила моя тоді, така сила моя й тепер, щоб воювати, і виходити, і приходити.

Yet I am as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so is my strength now for war and to go out and to come in.

12 А тепер дай же мені цей гористий край, про який Господь говорив того дня, бо ти чув того дня, що там велетні та великі укріплені міста. Може Господь буде зо мною, і я повиганяю їх, як говорив був Господь.

So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke that day. For you heard then how the Anakim were there and that the cities were great and fortified; if the Lord will be with me, I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.

13 І поблагословив його Ісус, і дав Калевові, синові Єфуннеєвому, Хеврон за спадок.

Then Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

14 Т ому став Хеврон Калевові, синові Єфуннеєвому, кеназзеянинові, за спадок, і так є аж до цього дня, за те, що він обставав за Господом, Богом Ізраїля.

So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel.

15 А ім'я Хеврону давніше було Кір'ят-Арба, що між велетнів був найбільший чоловік. А Край заспокоївся від війни.

The name of Hebron before was Kiriath-arba. This Arba was the greatest of the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.
