1 А сьомого року зміцнився Єгояда й прийняв сотників: Азарію, Єрохамового сина, і Ізмаїла, сина Єгохананового, і Азарію, сина Оведового, і Маасею, сина Адаї, і Елісафата, сина Зіхрієвого, в умову з собою.

In the seventh year Jehoiada took strength and courage and made a covenant with the captains of hundreds: Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zichri.

2 І обійшли вони Юду, і зібрали зо всіх Юдиних міст Левитів та голів Ізраїлевих домів, і прийшли до Єрусалиму.

And they went about in Judah and gathered the Levites out of all the cities, and the chiefs of the fathers’ houses of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

3 І ввесь збір склав у Божому домі умову з царем. І сказав їм Єгояда: Оце царський син буде царювати, як говорив Господь про Давидових синів.

And all the assembly made a covenant in the house of God with the king. And Jehoiada the priest said to them, Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the Lord has said of the offspring of David.

4 О це та річ, яку зробите: третина з вас, що приходите в суботу, із священиків та з Левитів, будете за придверних біля порогів.

This is what you shall do: a third of you priests and Levites who are resuming service on the Sabbath shall be doorkeepers,

5 А третина при царському домі, а третина при брамі Єсод, а ввесь народ у подвір'ях Господнього дому.

A third shall be at the king’s house, and third at the Foundation Gate; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the Lord.

6 І нехай не входить до Господнього йому ніхто, окрім священиків та тих, хто прислуговує із Левитів, вони ввійдуть, бо освячені вони, а ввесь народ буде пильнувати Господньої сторожі.

But let none come into the house of the Lord except the priests and those of the Levites who minister; they may go in, for they are holy, but let all the rest of the people carefully observe the law against entering the holy place of the Lord.

7 І оточать Левити царя навколо, кожен із своєю зброєю в руці своїй; а хто чужий увійшов би до дому, нехай буде забитий! І будете ви з царем при вході його та при виході його.

And the Levites shall surround the young king, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whoever comes into the house shall be put to death. But you be with the king when he comes in and when he goes out.

8 І зробили Левити та ввесь Юда все, що наказав священик Єгояда. І взяли кожен людей своїх, що приходять у суботу та відходять у суботу, бо священик Єгояда не звільнив черг.

So the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest had commanded; and took every man his men who were to resume duty on the Sabbath, with those who were to go out on the Sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss the divisions.

9 І дав священик Єгояда сотникам ратища, і малі щити, і інші щити, що належали цареві Давидові, що були в Божому домі.

Also Jehoiada the priest gave the captains of hundreds spears, bucklers, and shields that had been King David’s, which were in the house of God.

10 І поставив він увесь народ, а кожен мав свою зброю в руці своїй, від правого боку дому аж до лівого боку дому, при жертівнику та при домі, навколо біля царя.

And he set all the people as a guard for the king, every man having his weapon (missile) in his hand, from the right side to the left side of the temple, around the altar and the temple.

11 І вивели вони царського сина, і поклали на нього корону та звої Закону. І зробили вони його царем, і помазали його Єгояда та сини його, та й крикнули: Нехай живе цар!

Then they brought out the king’s son and put the crown on him and gave him the testimony or law and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him and said, Long live the king!

12 І почула Аталія голос народу, що бігав та славив царя, і прийшла до народу до Господнього дому.

When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she went into the Lord’s house to the people.

13 І побачила вона, аж ось цар стоїть на помості своїм при вході, а при царі зверхники та сурми, а ввесь народ Краю радіє та сурмить у сурми, а співаки з музичними знаряддями, що подавали до відома знаки на хвалу. І роздерла Аталія шати свої та й крикнула: Змова, змова!

And behold, there the king stood by his pillar at the entrance, the captains and the trumpeters beside him; and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets, and the singers with musical instruments led in singing of praise. Athaliah rent her clothes and cried, Treason! Treason!

14 А священик Єгояда наказав сотникам, поставленим над військом, і сказав до них: Виведіть її поміж шереги, а хто інший піде за нею, нехай буде забитий мечем! Бо священик сказав: Не заб'єте її в Господньому домі!

Then Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds who were over the army, Bring her out between the ranks, and whoever follows her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said, Do not slay her in the Lord’s house.

15 І зробили їй прохід, і вона вийшла входом Кінської брами до царського дому, і там забили її.

So they made way for Athaliah, and she went into the entrance of the Horse Gate of the king’s house; there they slew her.

16 І склав Єгояда умову між собою й між усім народом та між царем, щоб бути народом Господнім.

Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, all the people, and the king, that they should be the Lord’s people.

17 І ввійшов увесь народ до Ваалового дому, та й порозбивали його та жертівники його, і бовванів його зовсім поламали, а Маттана, Ваалового священика, убили перед жертівниками.

Then all the people went to the house of Baal, tore it down, and broke its altars and its images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

18 А в Господньому домі Єгояда віддав уряди на руку священиків та Левитів, яких поділив Давид над Господнім домом, щоб приносити Господні цілопалення, як написано в Мойсеєвім Законі, з радістю та зо співом, за уставом Давидовим.

Also Jehoiada appointed the offices and officers of the house of the Lord under the direction of the Levitical priests, whom David had distributed in the house of the Lord, to offer the burnt offerings of the Lord as written in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and singing, as ordered by David.

19 А при брамах Господнього дому поставив він придверних, щоб не ввійшов хто будь-чим нечистий.

Jehoiada set the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the Lord so that no one should enter who was in any way unclean.

20 І взяв він сотників, і вельмож, і тих, що старшинують над народом, та ввесь народ Краю, і відвели царя з Господнього дому. І ввійшли вони через горішню браму до царського дому, і посадили царя на троні царства.

And he took the captains of hundreds and the nobles and governors of the people and all the people of the land and brought down the king from the house of the Lord; and they came through the Upper Gate to the king’s house and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.

21 І радів увесь народ Краю, а місто заспокоїлося. А Аталію вбили мечем.

So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet after Athaliah had been slain with the sword.
