1 А Ісус, повний Духа Святого, вернувсь з-над Йордану, і Дух на пустиню Його попровадив.

Then Jesus, full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led in the Spirit

2 С орок день там диявол Його спокушав, і за тих днів Він нічого не їв, а коли закінчились вони, то вкінці зголоднів.

For (during) forty days in the wilderness (desert), where He was tempted ( tried, tested exceedingly) by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, He was hungry.

3 І диявол до Нього сказав: Якщо Ти Син Божий, скажи цьому каменеві, щоб хлібом він став!

Then the devil said to Him, If You are the Son of God, order this stone to turn into a loaf.

4 А Ісус відповів йому: Написано: Не хлібом самим буде жити людина, але кожним Словом Божим!

And Jesus replied to him, It is written, Man shall not live and be sustained by (on) bread alone but by every word and expression of God.

5 І він вивів Його на гору високу, і за хвилину часу показав Йому всі царства на світі.

Then the devil took Him up to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the habitable world in a moment of time '> in the twinkling of an eye].

6 І диявол сказав Йому: Я дам Тобі всю оцю владу та їхню славу, бо мені це передане, і я даю, кому хочу, її.

And he said to Him, To You I will give all this power and authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.

7 Т ож коли Ти поклонишся передо мною, то все буде Твоє!

Therefore if You will do homage to and worship me '> just once], it shall all be Yours.

8 І промовив Ісус йому в відповідь: Написано: Господеві Богові своєму вклоняйся, і служи Одному Йому!

And Jesus replied to him, Get behind Me, Satan! It is written, You shall do homage to and worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.

9 І повів Його в Єрусалим, і на наріжнику храму поставив, та й каже Йому: Як Ти Син Божий, кинься звідси додолу!

Then he took Him to Jerusalem and set Him on a gable of the temple, and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, cast Yourself down from here;

10 Б о написано: Він накаже про Тебе Своїм Анголам, щоб Тебе берегли!

For it is written, He will give His angels charge over you to guard and watch over you closely and carefully;

11 і : Вони на руках понесуть Тебе, щоб коли не спіткнув Ти об камінь Своєї ноги!

And on their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.

12 А Ісус відказав йому в відповідь: Сказано: Не спокушай Господа Бога свого!

And Jesus replied to him, says, You shall not tempt (try, test exceedingly) the Lord your God.

13 І диявол, скінчивши все цеє спокушування, відійшов від Нього до часу.

And when the devil had ended every temptation, he left Him '> stood off from Him] until another more opportune and favorable time.

14 А Ісус у силі Духа вернувся до Галілеї, і чутка про Нього рознеслась по всій тій країні.

Then Jesus went back full of and under the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and the fame of Him spread through the whole region round about.

15 І Він їх навчав по їхніх синагогах, і всі Його славили.

And He Himself conducted '> a course of] teaching in their synagogues, being recognized and honored and praised by all.

16 І прибув Він до Назарету, де був вихований. І звичаєм Своїм Він прийшов дня суботнього до синагоги, і встав, щоб читати.

So He came to Nazareth, '> that Nazareth] where He had been brought up, and He entered the synagogue, as was His custom on the Sabbath day. And He stood up to read.

17 І подали Йому книгу пророка Ісаї. Розгорнувши ж Він книгу, знайшов місце, де було так написано:

And there was handed to Him the book of the prophet Isaiah. He opened (unrolled) the book and found the place where it was written,

18 Н а Мені Дух Господній, бо Мене Він помазав, щоб Добру Новину звіщати вбогим. Послав Він Мене проповідувати полоненим визволення, а незрячим прозріння, відпустити на волю помучених,

The Spirit of the Lord upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed,

19 щ об проповідувати рік Господнього змилування.

To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord '> when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound].

20 І , книгу згорнувши, віддав службі й сів. А очі всіх у синагозі звернулись на Нього.

Then He rolled up the book and gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing at Him.

21 І почав Він до них говорити: Сьогодні збулося Писання, яке ви почули!

And He began to speak to them: Today this Scripture has been fulfilled while you are present and hearing.

22 І всі Йому стверджували й дивувались словам благодаті, що линули з уст Його. І казали вони: Чи ж то Він не син Йосипів?

And all spoke well of Him and marveled at the words of grace that came forth from His mouth; and they said, Is not this Joseph’s Son?

23 В ін же промовив до них: Ви Мені конче скажете приказку: Лікарю, уздоров самого себе! Учини те й тут, у вітчизні Своїй, що сталося чули ми у Капернаумі.

So He said to them, You will doubtless quote to Me this proverb: Physician, heal Yourself! What we have learned by hearsay that You did in Capernaum, do here also in Your town.

24 І сказав Він: Поправді кажу вам: Жаден пророк не буває приємний у вітчизні своїй.

Then He said, Solemnly I say to you, no prophet is acceptable and welcome in his town (country).

25 Т а правдиво кажу вам: Багато вдовиць перебувало за днів Іллі серед Ізраїля, коли на три роки й шість місяців небо було зачинилося, так що голод великий настав був по всій тій землі,

But in truth I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were closed up for three years and six months, so that there came a great famine over all the land;

26 а Ілля не до жадної з них не був посланий, тільки в Сарепту Сидонську до овдовілої жінки.

And yet Elijah was not sent to a single one of them, but only to Zarephath in the country of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.

27 І багато було прокажених за Єлисея пророка в Ізраїлі, але жаден із них не очистився, крім Неємана сиріянина.

And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and yet not one of them was cleansed —but only Naaman the Syrian.

28 І всі в синагозі, почувши оце, переповнились гнівом.

When they heard these things, all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage.

29 І , вставши, вони Його вигнали за місто, і повели аж до краю гори, на якій їхнє місто було побудоване, щоб скинути додолу Його...

And rising up, they pushed and drove Him out of the town, and they led Him to the upper part of the hill on which their town was built, that they might hurl Him headlong down.

30 А ле Він перейшов серед них, і віддалився.

But passing through their midst, He went on His way.

31 І прийшов Він у Капернаум, галілейське місто, і там їх навчав по суботах.

And He descended to Capernaum, a town of Galilee, and there He continued to teach the people on the Sabbath days.

32 І дивувались науці Його, бо слово Його було владне.

And they were amazed at His teaching, for His word was with authority and ability and weight and power.

33 І був чоловік у синагозі, що мав духа нечистого демона, і він закричав гучним голосом:

Now in the synagogue there was a man who was possessed by the foul spirit of a demon; and he cried out with a loud (deep, terrible) cry,

34 А х, що нам до Тебе, Ісусе Назарянине? Ти прийшов погубити нас. Я знаю Тебе, хто Ти, Божий Святий...

Ah, let us alone! What have You to do with us '> we in common], Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know Who You are—the Holy One of God!

35 А Ісус заборонив йому, кажучи: Замовчи, і вийди з нього! І, кинувши демон того насередину, вийшов із нього, нічого йому не пошкодивши.

But Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent (muzzled, gagged), and come out of him! And when the demon had thrown the man down in their midst, he came out of him without injuring him in any possible way.

36 І всіх жах обгорнув, і питали вони один одного, кажучи: Що то за наука, що духам нечистим наказує з владою й силою, і виходять вони?...

And they were all amazed and said to one another, What kind of talk is this? For with authority and power He commands the foul spirits and they come out!

37 І неслася чутка про Нього по всіх місцях краю.

And a rumor about Him spread into every place in the surrounding country.

38 А як вийшов Він із синагоги, увійшов у дім Симона. Теща ж Симонова в великій гарячці лежала. І просили за неї Його.

Then He arose and left the synagogue and went into Simon’s (Peter’s) house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering in the grip of a burning fever, and they pleaded with Him for her.

39 І , ставши над нею, Він заборонив тій гарячці, і вона полишила її. І, зараз уставши, теща їм прислуговувала.

And standing over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and immediately she got up and began waiting on them.

40 К оли ж сонце заходило, то всі, хто мав яких хворих на різні недуги, до Нього приводили їх. Він же клав Свої руки на кожного з них, та їх уздоровляв.

Now at the setting of the sun, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to Him, and He laid His hands upon every one of them and cured them.

41 І з багатьох же виходили й демони, кричачи та говорячи: Ти Син Божий! Та Він їм забороняв, і не давав говорити, що знали вони, що Христос Він.

And demons even came out of many people, screaming and crying out, You are the Son of God! But He rebuked them and would not permit them to speak, because they knew that He was the Christ (the Messiah).

42 К оли ж настав день, Він вийшов, і подавсь до самотнього місця. А люди шукали Його. І прийшовши до Нього, Його затримували, щоб від них не відходив.

And when daybreak came, He left and went into an isolated place. And the people looked for Him until they came up to Him and tried to prevent Him from leaving them.

43 В ін же промовив до них: І іншим містам Я повинен звіщати Добру Новину про Боже Царство, бо на те Мене послано.

But He said to them, I must preach the good news (the Gospel) of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this.

44 І Він проповідував по синагогах Галілеї.

And He continued to preach in the synagogues of Galilee.
