1 A tunci împăratul va împărăţi cu dreptate, şi voivozii vor cîrmui cu nepărtinire.

Behold, a King will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice.

2 F iecare va fi ca un adăpost împotriva vîntului, şi ca un loc de scăpare împotriva furtunii, ca nişte rîuri de apă într'un loc uscat, ca umbra unei stînci mari într'un pămînt ars de sete.

And each one of them shall be like a hiding place from the wind and a shelter from the storm, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land.

3 O chii celor ce văd nu vor mai fi legaţi, şi urechile celor ce aud vor lua aminte.

The fool (the unbeliever and the ungodly) will no more be called noble, nor the crafty and greedy said to be bountiful and princely.

6 C ăci nebunul spune nebunii, şi inima lui gîndeşte rău, ca să lucreze în chip nelegiuit, şi să spună neadevăruri împotriva Domnului, ca să lase lihnit sufletul celui flămînd, şi să ia băutura celui însetat.

For the fool speaks folly and his mind plans iniquity: practicing profane ungodliness and speaking error concerning the Lord, leaving the craving of the hungry unsatisfied and causing the drink of the thirsty to fail.

Rise up, you women who are at ease! Hear my voice, you confident and careless daughters! Listen to what I am saying!

10 Î ntr'un an şi cîteva zile, veţi tremura, nepăsătoarelor; căci se va duce culesul viilor, şi strîngerea poamelor nu va mai veni.

In little more than a year you will be shaken with anxiety, you careless and complacent women; for the vintage will fail, and the ingathering will not come.

11 Î ngroziţi-vă, voi cele fără grijă! Tremuraţi, nepăsătoarelor! Desbrăcaţi-vă, desgoliţi-vă şi încingeţi-vă coapsele cu haine de jale!

Tremble, you women who are at ease! Shudder with fear, you complacent ones! Strip yourselves bare and gird sackcloth upon your loins!

12 B ateţi-vă pieptul, aducîndu-vă aminte de frumuseţa cîmpiilor şi de rodnicia viilor.

They shall beat upon their breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine,

13 P e pămîntul poporului meu cresc spini şi mărăcini, chiar şi în toate casele de plăcere ale cetăţii celei vesele.

For the land of my people growing over with thorns and briers—yes, for all the houses of joy in the joyous city.

14 C asa împărătească este părăsită, cetatea gălăgioasă este lăsată; dealul şi turnul vor sluji pe vecie ca peşteri; măgarii sălbatici se vor juca în ele, şi turmele vor paşte,

For the palace shall be forsaken, the populous city shall be deserted; the hill and the watchtower shall become dens endlessly, a joy for wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks,

15 p înă cînd se va turna Duhul de sus peste noi; atunci pustia se va preface în pămînt, şi pomătul va fi privit ca o pădure.

Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is valued as a forest.

16 A tunci nepărtinirea va locui în pustie, şi neprihănirea îşi va avea locuinţa în pomăt.

Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation) will abide in the fruitful field.

17 L ucrarea neprihănirii va fi pacea, roada neprihănirii: odihna şi liniştea pe vecie.

And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness will be quietness and confident trust forever.

18 P oporul meu va locui în locuinţa păcii, în case fără grijă şi în adăposturi liniştite.

My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting-places.

19 D ar pădurea va fi prăbuşită supt grindină şi cetatea plecată adînc.

But it shall hail, coming down overpoweringly on the forest, and the capital city shall be utterly humbled and laid prostrate.

20 F erice de voi, cari sămănaţi pretutindeni dealungul apelor, şi cari daţi drumul pretutindeni boului şi măgarului!``

Happy and fortunate are you who cast your seed upon all waters, you who safely send forth the ox and the donkey.
