1 C uvîntul pe care l -a spus proorocul Ieremia către Baruc, fiul lui Neriia, cînd a scris într'o carte cuvintele acestea, după spusele lui Ieremia, în al patrulea an al lui Ioiachim, fiul lui Iosia, împăratul lui Iuda, sună astfel:

The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the dictation of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

2 A şa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, despre tine, Baruc:

Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, unto you, O Baruch:

3 T u zici:, Vai de mine! căci Domnul a adus întristare peste durerea mea; îmi sleiesc puterile suspinînd, şi nu găsesc odihnă!`

You said, Woe is me now! For the Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning and sighing and I find no rest.

4 S pune -i:, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul:, Iată că ce am zidit, voi dărîma; ce am sădit, voi smulge, şi anume ţara aceasta.

Say this to him: The Lord speaks thus: Behold, what I have built I will break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up—and this means the whole land.

5 Ş i tu umbli după lucruri mari? Nu umbla după ele! Căci iată, voi aduce nenorocirea peste orice făptură, zice Domnul, dar ţie îţi voi da ca pradă de război viaţa ta, în toate locurile unde vei merge.``

And should you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not; for behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, says the Lord, but your life I will give to you as a prize of war wherever you go.
