1 P raznicul azimilor, numit Paştele, se apropia.

Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread was drawing near, which is called the Passover.

2 P reoţii cei mai de seamă şi cărturarii căutau un mijloc cum să omoare pe Isus; căci se temeau de norod.

And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to do away with, for they feared the people.

3 D ar Satana a intrat în Iuda, zis şi Iscarioteanul, care era din numărul celor doisprezece.

But Satan entered into Judas, called Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve.

4 I uda s'a dus să se înţeleagă cu preoţii cei mai de seamă şi cu căpeteniile străjerilor Templului cum să -L dea în mînile lor.

And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and captains how he might betray Him and deliver Him up to them.

5 E i s'au bucurat, şi au căzut la învoială să -i dea bani.

And they were delighted and pledged to give him money.

6 D upă ce le -a făgăduit că li -L va da în mîni, Iuda căuta un prilej nimerit să dea pe Isus în mînile lor, fără ştirea norodului.

So he agreed, and sought an opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the throng.

7 Z iua praznicului Azimilor, în care trebuiau jertfite Paştele, a venit.

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover had to be slain.

8 Ş i Isus a trimes pe Petru şi pe Ioan, şi le -a zis:,, Duceţi-vă de pregătiţi-ne Paştele, ca să mîncăm.``

So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare for us the Passover meal, that we may eat it.

9 U nde voieşti să pregătim?`` L-au întrebat ei.

They said to Him, Where do You want us to prepare ?

10 E l le -a răspuns:,, Iată, cînd veţi intra în cetate, vă va ieşi înainte un om, ducînd un ulcior cu apă; mergeţi după el în casa în care va intra,

He said to them, Behold, when you have gone into the city, a man carrying an earthen jug or pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters,

11 ş i spuneţi stăpînului casei:,Învăţătorul îţi zice: Unde este odaia pentru oaspeţi, în care să mănînc Paştele cu ucenicii Mei?`

And say to the master of the house, The Teacher asks you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?

12 Ş i are să vă arate o odae mare de sus, aşternută gata: acolo să pregătiţi Paştele.``

And he will show you a large room upstairs, furnished; there make preparations.

13 E i au plecat, şi au găsit aşa cum le spusese El. Şi au pregătit Paştele.

And they went and found it as He had said to them; and they made ready the Passover.

14 C înd a sosit ceasul, Isus a şezut la masă cu cei doisprezece apostoli.

And when the hour came, reclined at table, and the apostles with Him.

15 E l le -a zis:,, Am dorit mult să mănînc Paştele acestea cu voi înainte de patima Mea;

And He said to them, I have earnestly and intensely desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;

16 c ăci vă spun, că de acum încolo, nu le voi mai mînca, pînă la împlinirea lor în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.``

For I say to you, I shall eat it no more until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17 Ş i a luat un pahar, a mulţămit lui Dumnezeu, şi a zis:,, Luaţi paharul acesta, şi împărţiţi -l între voi;

And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He said, Take this and divide and distribute it among yourselves;

18 p entrucă vă spun că nu voi mai bea de acum încolo din rodul viţei, pănă cînd va veni Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.``

For I say to you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine at all until the kingdom of God comes.

19 A poi a luat pîne; şi, după ce a mulţămit lui Dumnezeu, a frînt -o, şi le -a dat -o zicînd:,, Acesta este trupul Meu, care se dă pentru voi; să faceţi lucrul acesta spre pomenirea Mea.``

Then He took a loaf, and when He had given thanks, He broke and gave it to them saying, This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.

20 T ot astfel, dupăce au mîncat, a luat paharul, şi li l -a dat, zicînd:,, Acest pahar este legămîntul cel nou, făcut în sîngele Meu, care se varsă pentru voi.``

And in like manner, He took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament or covenant in My blood, which is shed (poured out) for you.

21 D ar iată că mîna vînzătorului Meu este cu Mine la masa aceasta.

But, behold, the hand of him who is now engaged in betraying Me is with Me on the table.

22 N egreşit, Fiul omului Se duce, după cum este rînduit. Dar vai de omul acela prin care este vîndut El!``

For the Son of Man is going as it has been determined and appointed, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed and delivered up!

23 Ş i au început să se întrebe unii pe alţii cine din ei să fie acela care va face lucrul acesta.

And they began to inquire among themselves which of them it was who was about to do this.

24 Î ntre apostoli s'a iscat şi o ceartă, ca să ştie care din ei avea să fie socotit ca cel mai mare?

Now an eager contention arose among them which of them was considered and reputed to be the greatest.

25 I sus le -a zis:,,Împăraţii Neamurilor domnesc peste ele; şi celorce le stăpînesc, li se dă numele de binefăcători.

But Jesus said to them, The kings of the Gentiles are deified by them and exercise lordship '> ruling as emperor-gods] over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors and well-doers.

26 V oi să nu fiţi aşa. Ci cel mai mare dintre voi, să fie ca cel mai mic; şi celce cîrmuieşte, ca celce slujeşte.

But this is not to be so with you; on the contrary, let him who is the greatest among you become like the youngest, and him who is the chief and leader like one who serves.

27 C ăci care este mai mare: cine stă la masă, sau cine slujeşte la masă? Nu cine stă la masă? Şi Eu totuş, sînt în mijlocul vostru ca celce slujeşte la masă.

For who is the greater, the one who reclines at table (the master), or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am in your midst as One Who serves.

28 V oi sînteţi aceia, cari aţi rămas necontenit cu Mine în încercările Mele.

And you are those who have remained and persevered with Me in My trials;

29 D e aceea vă pregătesc Împărăţia, după cum Tatăl Meu Mi -a pregătit -o Mie,

And as My Father has appointed a kingdom and conferred it on Me, so do I confer on you,

30 c a să mîncaţi şi să beţi la masa Mea în Împărăţia Mea, şi să şedeţi pe scaune de domnie, ca să judecaţi pe cele douăsprezece seminţii ale lui Israel.``

That you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 D omnul a zis:,, Simone, Simone, Satana v'a cerut să vă cearnă ca grîul.

Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that you be given up to him, that he might sift you like grain,

32 D ar Eu M'am rugat pentru tine, ca să nu se piardă credinţa ta; şi dupăce te vei întoarce la Dumnezeu, să întăreşti pe fraţii tăi.``

But I have prayed especially for you, that your faith may not fail; and when you yourself have turned again, strengthen and establish your brethren.

33 D oamne``, I -a zis Petru,,, cu Tine sînt gata să merg chiar şi în temniţă şi la moarte.``

And said to Him, Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death.

34 Ş i Isus i -a zis:,, Petre, îţi spun că nu va cînta astăzi cocoşul, pînă te vei lepăda de trei ori că nu Mă cunoşti.``

But Jesus said, I tell you, Peter, before a cock shall crow this day, you will three times deny that you know Me.

35 A poi le -a mai zis:,, Cînd v'am trimes fără pungă, fără traistă, şi fără încălţăminte, aţi dus voi lipsă de ceva?,, De nimic``, I-au răspuns ei.

And He said to them, When I sent you out with no purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything? They answered, Nothing!

36 Ş i El le -a zis:,, Acum, dimpotrivă, cine are o pungă, s'o ia; cine are o traistă, deasemenea s'o ia; şi cine n'are sabie, să-şi vîndă haina, şi să-şi cumpere o sabie.

Then He said to them, But now let him who has a purse take it, and also bag; and let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy a sword.

37 C ăci vă spun că trebuie să se împlinească cu Mine aceste cuvinte scrise:, El a fost pus în numărul celor fărădelege.` Şi lucrurile privitoare la Mine, sînt gata să se împlinească.``

For I tell you that this Scripture must yet be fulfilled in Me: And He was counted and classed among the wicked (the outlaws, the criminals); for what is written about Me has its fulfillment.

38 D oamne``, I-au zis ei,,, iată aici două săbii.`` Şi El le -a zis:,, Destul!``

And they said, Look, Lord! Here are two swords. And He said to them, It is enough.

39 D upă ce a ieşit afară, S'a dus, ca de obicei, în muntele Măslinilor. Ucenicii Lui au mers după El.

And He came out and went, as was His habit, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed Him.

40 C înd a ajuns la locul acela, le -a zis:,, Rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită.``

And when He came to the place, He said to them, Pray that you may not enter into temptation.

41 A poi S'a depărtat de ei ca la o aruncătură de piatră, a îngenuncheat, şi a început să Se roage,

And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw and knelt down and prayed,

42 z icînd:,, Tată, dacă voieşti, depărtează paharul acesta dela Mine! Totuş, facă-se nu voia Mea, ci a Ta.``

Saying, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but '> always] Yours be done.

43 A tunci I s'a arătat un înger din cer, ca să -L întărească.

And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit.

44 A ajuns într'un chin ca de moarte, şi a început să Se roage şi mai fierbinte; şi sudoarea I se făcuse ca nişte picături mari de sînge, cari cădeau pe pămînt.

And being in an agony, He prayed more earnestly and intently, and His sweat became like great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground.

45 D upă ce S'a rugat, S'a sculat, şi a venit la ucenici; i -a găsit adormiţi de întristare,

And when He got up from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from grief,

46 ş i le -a zis:,, Pentruce dormiţi? Sculaţi-vă şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită.``

And He said to them, Why do you sleep? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.

47 P e cînd grăia El încă, iată că a venit o gloată. Şi cel ce se chema Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, mergea în fruntea lor. El s'a apropiat de Isus, ca să -L sărute.

And while He was still speaking, behold, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the Twelve, was going before them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss Him,

48 Ş i Isus i -a zis:,, Iudo, cu o sărutare vinzi tu pe Fiul omului?``

But Jesus said to him, Judas! Would you betray and deliver up the Son of Man with a kiss?

49 C eice erau cu Isus, au văzut ce avea să se întîmple, şi au zis:,, Doamne, să lovim cu sabia?``

And when those who were around Him saw what was about to happen, they said, Lord, shall we strike with the sword?

50 Ş i unul din ei a lovit pe robul marelui preot, şi i -a tăiat urechea dreaptă.

And one of them struck the bond servant of the high priest and cut off his ear, the right one.

51 D ar Isus a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis:,, Lăsaţi -i! Pînă aici!`` Şi S'a atins de urechea omului aceluia, şi l -a vindecat.

But Jesus said, Permit them to go so far. And He touched the little (insignificant) ear and healed him.

52 I sus a zis apoi preoţilor celor mai de seamă, căpeteniilor străjerilor Templului şi bătrînilor, cari veniseră împotriva Lui:,, Aţi ieşit după Mine ca după un tîlhar, cu săbii şi cu ciomege?

Then Jesus said to those who had come out against Him—the chief priests and captains of the temple and elders —Have you come out with swords and clubs as against a robber?

53 Î n toate zilele eram cu voi în Templu, şi n'aţi pus mîna pe Mine. Dar acesta este ceasul vostru şi puterea întunerecului.``

When I was with you day after day in the temple '> enclosure], you did not stretch forth hands against Me. But this is your hour—and the power darkness.

54 D upăce au pus mîna pe Isus, L-au dus şi L-au băgat în casa marelui preot. Petru mergea după El de departe.

Then they seized Him and led Him away, bringing Him into the house of the high priest. Peter was following at a distance.

55 A u aprins un foc în mijlocul curţii şi au şezut jos. Petru s'a aşezat şi el printre ei.

And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and were seated together, Peter sat among them.

56 O slujnică l -a văzut cum şedea la para focului, s'a uitat ţintă la el, şi a zis:,,Şi omul acesta era cu El.``

Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and gazing at him, said, This man too was with Him.

57 D ar Petru s'a lepădat, şi a zis:,, Femeie, nu -L cunosc.``

But he denied it and said, Woman, I do not know Him!

58 P este puţin, l -a văzut un altul şi a zis:,,Şi tu eşti unul din oamenii aceia.`` Iar Petru a zis:,, Omule, nu sînt dintre ei.``

And a little later someone else saw him and said, You are one of them also. But Peter said, Man, I am not!

59 C am după un ceas, un altul întărea acelaş lucru, şi zicea:,, Nu mai încape îndoială că şi omul acesta era cu El, căci este Galilean.``

And when about an hour more had elapsed, still another emphatically insisted, It is the truth that this man also was with Him, for he too is a Galilean!

60 P etru a răspuns:,, Omule, nu ştiu ce zici.`` Chiar în clipa aceea, pe cînd vorbea el încă, a cîntat cocoşul.

But Peter said, Man, I do not know what you are talking about. And instantly, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed.

61 D omnul S'a întors, şi S'a uitat ţintă la Petru. Şi Petru şi -a adus aminte de vorba pe care i -o spusese Domnul:,,Înainte ca să cînte cocoşul te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori.``

And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter recalled the Lord’s words, how He had told him, Before the cock crows today, you will deny Me thrice.

62 Ş i a ieşit afară, şi a plîns cu amar.

And he went out and wept bitterly.

63 O amenii, cari păzeau pe Isus, Îl batjocoreau şi -L băteau.

Now the men who had Jesus in custody treated Him with contempt and scoffed at and ridiculed Him and beat Him;

64 L -au legat la ochi, Îl loveau peste faţă, şi -L întrebau, zicînd:,, Prooroceşte, cine Te -a lovit?``

They blindfolded Him also and asked Him, Prophesy! Who is it that struck You?

65 Ş i rosteau împotriva Lui multe alte batjocori.

And they said many other evil and slanderous and insulting words against Him, reviling Him.

66 C înd s'a făcut ziuă, bătrînii norodului, preoţii cei mai de seamă şi cărturarii s'au adunat împreună, şi au adus pe Isus în Soborul lor. Ei I-au zis:

As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led Him into their council (the Sanhedrin), and they said,

67 D acă eşti Tu Hristosul, spune-ne!`` Isus le -a răspuns:,, Dacă vă voi spune, nu veţi crede;

If You are the Christ (the Messiah), tell us. But He said to them, If I tell you, you will not believe (trust in, cleave to, and rely on what I say),

68 ş i dacă vă voi întreba, nu-Mi veţi răspunde, nici nu-Mi veţi da drumul.

And if I question you, you will not answer.

69 D eacum încolo, Fiul omului va şedea la dreapta puterii lui Dumnezeu.``

But hereafter (from this time on), the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.

70 T oţi au zis:,, Eşti Tu dar Fiul lui Dumnezeu?`` Şi El le -a răspuns:,, Aşa cum o spuneţi; da, sînt.``

And they all said, You are the Son of God, then? And He said to them, It is just as you say; I Am.

71 A tunci ei au zis:,, Ce nevoie mai avem de mărturie? Noi înşine am auzit -o din gura Lui.``

And they said, What further evidence do we need? For we have heard ourselves from His own mouth!
