1 E stas cosas os he hablado, para que no tengáis tropiezo.

I have told you all these things, so that you should not be offended (taken unawares and falter, or be caused to stumble and fall away).

2 O s expulsarán de las sinagogas; y aun viene la hora cuando cualquiera que os mate, pensará que rinde servicio a Dios.

They will put you out of (expel you from) the synagogues; but an hour is coming when whoever kills you will think and claim that he has offered service to God.

3 Y harán esto porque no conocen al Padre ni a mí.

And they will do this because they have not known the Father or Me.

4 M as os he dicho estas cosas, para que cuando llegue la hora, os acordéis de que ya os lo había dicho. La obra del Espíritu Santo Esto no os lo dije al principio, porque yo estaba con vosotros.

But I have told you these things now, so that when they occur you will remember that I told you of them. I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.

5 P ero ahora voy al que me envió; y ninguno de vosotros me pregunta: ¿Adónde vas?

But now I am going to Him Who sent Me, yet none of you asks Me, Where are You going?

6 A ntes, porque os he dicho estas cosas, la tristeza ha llenado vuestro corazón.

But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.

7 P ero yo os digo la verdad: Os conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me fuese, el Consolador no vendría a vosotros; mas si me voy, os lo enviaré.

However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go away, I will send Him to you.

8 Y cuando él venga, redargüirá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio.

And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment:

9 D e pecado, por cuanto no creen en mí;

About sin, because they do not believe in Me;

10 d e justicia, por cuanto voy al Padre, y no me veréis más;

About righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God), because I go to My Father, and you will see Me no longer;

11 y de juicio, por cuanto el príncipe de este mundo ha sido ya juzgado.

About judgment, because the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world is judged and condemned and sentence already is passed upon him.

12 A ún tengo muchas cosas que deciros, pero ahora no las podéis sobrellevar.

I have still many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them or to take them upon you or to grasp them now.

13 P ero cuando venga el Espíritu de verdad, él os guiará a toda la verdad; porque no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que hablará todo cuanto oiga, y os hará saber las cosas que habrán de venir.

But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message; but He will tell whatever He hears, and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come.

14 É l me glorificará; porque tomará de lo mío, y os lo hará saber.

He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

15 T odo lo que tiene el Padre es mío; por eso dije que tomará de lo mío, y os lo hará saber. La tristeza se convertirá en gozo

Everything that the Father has is Mine. That is what I meant when I said that He will take the things that are Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

16 T odavía un poco, y no me veréis; y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis; porque yo voy al Padre.

In a little while you will no longer see Me, and again after a short while you will see Me.

17 E ntonces se dijeron algunos de sus discípulos unos a otros: ¿Qué es esto que nos dice: Todavía un poco, y no me veréis; y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis; y, porque yo voy al Padre?

So some of His disciples questioned among themselves, What does He mean when He tells us, In a little while you will no longer see Me, and again after a short while you will see Me, and, Because I go to My Father?

18 D ecían, pues: ¿Qué quiere decir con: Todavía un poco? No sabemos qué quiere decir.

What does He mean by a little while? We do not know or understand what He is talking about.

19 J esús conoció que querían preguntarle, y les dijo: ¿Indagáis entre vosotros acerca de esto que dije: Todavía un poco, y no me veréis; y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis?

Jesus knew that they wanted to ask Him, so He said to them, Are you wondering and inquiring among yourselves what I meant when I said, In a little while you will no longer see Me, and again after a short while you will see Me?

20 D e cierto, de cierto os digo, que vosotros lloraréis y os lamentaréis, y el mundo se alegrará; vosotros os entristeceréis, pero vuestra tristeza se convertirá en gozo.

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that you shall weep and grieve, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

21 L a mujer, cuando da a luz, tiene dolor, porque ha llegado su hora; pero después que ha dado a luz un niño, ya no se acuerda de la angustia, por el gozo de que haya nacido un hombre en el mundo.

A woman, when she gives birth to a child, has grief (anguish, agony) because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she no longer remembers her pain (trouble, anguish) because she is so glad that a man (a child, a human being) has been born into the world.

22 T ambién vosotros ahora tenéis tristeza; pero os volveré a ver, y se gozará vuestro corazón, y nadie os quitará vuestro gozo.

So for the present you are also in sorrow (in distress and depressed); but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one can take from you your joy (gladness, delight).

23 E n aquel día no me preguntaréis nada. De cierto, de cierto os digo, que todo cuanto pidáis al Padre en mi nombre, os lo dará.

And when that time comes, you will ask nothing of Me. I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that My Father will grant you whatever you ask in My Name '> presenting all that I Am ].

24 H asta ahora, nada habéis pedido en mi nombre; pedid, y recibiréis, para que vuestro gozo esté completo. Yo he vencido al mundo

Up to this time you have not asked a thing in My Name '> presenting all that I Am ]; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy (gladness, delight) may be full and complete.

25 E stas cosas os he hablado en alegorías; viene la hora en que ya no os hablaré por alegorías, sino que claramente os anunciaré acerca del Padre.

I have told you these things in parables (veiled language, allegories, dark sayings); the hour is now coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but I shall tell you about the Father in plain words and openly (without reserve).

26 E n aquel día pediréis en mi nombre; y no os digo que yo rogaré al Padre por vosotros,

At that time you will ask (pray) in My Name; and I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.

27 p ues el Padre mismo os ama, porque vosotros me habéis amado, y habéis creído que yo salí de Dios.

For the Father Himself loves you because you have loved Me and have believed that I came out from the Father.

28 S alí del Padre, y he venido al mundo; otra vez dejo el mundo, y voy al Padre.

I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father.

29 L e dijeron sus discípulos: He aquí que ahora hablas claramente, y no dices ninguna alegoría.

His disciples said, Ah, now You are speaking plainly to us and not in parables (veiled language and figures of speech)!

30 A hora vemos que sabes todas las cosas, y no necesitas que nadie te pregunte; por esto creemos que has salido de Dios.

Now we know that You are acquainted with everything and have no need to be asked questions. Because of this we believe that you came from God.

31 J esús les respondió: ¿Ahora creéis?

Jesus answered them, Do you now believe?

32 H e aquí la hora viene, y ha venido ya, en que seréis esparcidos cada uno por su lado, y me dejaréis solo; mas no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.

But take notice, the hour is coming, and it has arrived, when you will all be dispersed and scattered, every man to his own home, leaving Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

33 E stas cosas os he hablado para que tengáis paz en mí. En el mundo tendréis aflicción; pero tened ánimo, yo he vencido al mundo.

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer! For I have overcome the world.
