1 E scuchad esta palabra que yo levanto para lamentación sobre vosotros, casa de Israel.

Hear this word which I take up concerning you in lamentation, O house of Israel:

2 C ayó la virgen de Israel, y no podrá levantarse ya más; yace abatida en tierra, no habrá quien la levante.

The Virgin of Israel has fallen; she shall no more rise; she lies cast down and forsaken on her land; there is no one to raise her up.

3 P orque así dice el Señor Jehová: La ciudad que haya salido con mil, volverá con ciento, y la que haya salido con ciento, volverá con diez, en la casa de Israel.

For thus says the Lord God: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left to the house of Israel.

4 P ero así dice Jehová a la casa de Israel: Buscadme, y viviréis;

For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek Me and you shall live!

5 y no busquéis a Betel, ni entréis en Gilgal, ni paséis a Beerseba; porque Gilgal será llevada en cautiverio, y Betel será deshecha.

But seek not Bethel nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not over to Beersheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity and exile, and Bethel shall become Beth-aven and come to nothing.

6 B uscad a Jehová, y vivid; no sea que acometa como fuego a la casa de José y la consuma, sin haber en Betel quien lo apague.

Seek the Lord and you shall live, lest He rush down like fire upon the house of Joseph and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.

7 L os que convertís en ajenjo el juicio, y echáis la justicia por tierra,

You who turn justice into wormwood and cast righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God) down to the ground,

8 b uscad al que hace las Pléyades y el Orión, y vuelve las tinieblas en mañana, y hace oscurecer el día como noche; el que llama a las aguas del mar, y las derrama sobre la faz de la tierra; Jehová es su nombre;

Seek Him Who made the Pleiades and Orion, Who turns the shadow of death or deep darkness into the morning and darkens the day into night, Who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out upon the face of the earth—the Lord is His name—

9 q ue envía destrucción sobre el fuerte, y hace que la ruina venga sobre la fortaleza.

Who causes sudden destruction to flash forth upon the strong so that destruction comes upon the fortress.

10 E llos aborrecieron al reprensor en la puerta de la ciudad, y abominaron al que hablaba lo recto.

They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks uprightly.

11 P or tanto, puesto que vejáis al pobre y recibís de él carga de trigo, edificasteis casas de piedra labrada, mas no las habitaréis; plantasteis hermosas viñas, mas no beberéis el vino de ellas.

Therefore because you tread upon the poor and take from him exactions of wheat, you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.

12 P orque yo sé cuán numerosas son vuestras rebeliones, y cuán grandes son vuestros pecados; sé que oprimís al justo, y recibís cohecho, y en los tribunales hacéis perder su causa a los pobres.

For I know how manifold are your transgressions and how mighty are your sins—you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe, and who turn aside the needy in the gate from their right.

13 P or eso, el prudente calla en este tiempo, porque el tiempo es malo.

Therefore he who is prudent will keep silence in such a time, for it is an evil time.

14 B uscad lo bueno, y no lo malo, para que viváis; porque así Jehová Dios de los ejércitos estará con vosotros, como decís.

Seek (inquire for and require) good and not evil that you may live, and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said.

15 A borreced el mal, y amad el bien, y restableced la justicia en la puerta; quizá Jehová Dios de los ejércitos tendrá piedad del remanente de José.

Hate the evil and love the good and establish justice in the gate. It may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

16 P or tanto, así dice Jehová, Dios de los ejércitos: En todas las plazas habrá llanto, y en todas las calles dirán: ¡Ay! ¡Ay!, y llamarán al labrador a duelo, y a endecha a los que sepan endechar.

Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord: There shall be wailing in all the broad ways, and in all the streets they shall say, Alas! Alas! And they shall call the farmers to mourning and such as are skilled in lamentation to wailing.

17 Y en todas las viñas habrá llanto; porque pasaré en medio de ti, dice Jehová. El día de Jehová

And in all vineyards there shall be wailing, for I will pass through the midst of you, says the Lord.

18 ¡ Ay de los que desean el día de Jehová! ¿Para qué os servirá este día de Jehová? Será de tinieblas, y no de luz;

Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! Why would you want the day of the Lord? It is darkness and not light;

19 c omo el que huye de delante del león, y se encuentra con el oso; o como el que entra en casa y apoya su mano en la pared, y le muerde una culebra.

It is as if a man fled from a lion and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned with his hand against the wall and a serpent bit him.

20 ¿ No será el día de Jehová tinieblas, y no luz; oscuridad en la que no hay resplandor?

Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, not light? Even very dark with no brightness in it?

21 O dio y aborrezco vuestras solemnidades, y no me complazco en vuestras asambleas.

I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will not smell a savor or take delight in your solemn assemblies.

22 Y si me ofrecéis vuestros holocaustos y vuestras ofrendas, no los recibiré, ni miraré a las ofrendas de paz de vuestros animales engordados.

Though you offer Me your burnt offerings and your cereal offerings, I will not accept them, neither will I look upon the peace or thank offerings of your fatted beasts.

23 A leja de mí la multitud de tus cantares, pues no escucharé las salmodias de tus instrumentos.

Take away from Me the noise of your songs, for I will not listen to the melody of your harps.

24 P ero corra el derecho como las aguas, y la justicia como impetuoso arroyo.

But let justice run down like waters and righteousness as a mighty and ever-flowing stream.

25 ¿ Me ofrecisteis sacrificios y ofrendas en el desierto en cuarenta años, oh casa de Israel?

Did you bring to Me sacrifices and cereal offerings during those forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

26 A ntes bien, llevabais a Sicut, vuestro rey, y a Quiyún, vuestro dios, esos ídolos que os hicisteis.

but you carried about the tent of your king Sakkuth and Kaiwan, your images of your star-god which you made for yourselves.

27 O s haré, pues, deportar más allá de Damasco, dice Jehová, cuyo nombre es Dios de los ejércitos.

Therefore I will cause you to go into exile beyond Damascus, says the Lord, whose name is the God of hosts.
