1 S imon Peter, a servant and apostle (special messenger) of Jesus Christ, to those who have received (obtained an equal privilege of) like precious faith with ourselves in and through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

Si-môn Phi -e-rơ, làm tôi tớ và sứ đồ của Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, gởi cho những kẻ cậy sự công bình của Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta và của Cứu Chúa là Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, đã lãnh phần đức tin đồng quí báu như của chúng tôi:

2 M ay grace (God’s favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in '> precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

nguyền xin ân điển và sự bình an được gia thêm cho anh em bởi sự nhận biết Đức Chúa Trời và Đức Chúa Jêsus, là Chúa chúng ta!

3 F or His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that to life and godliness, through the '> full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

Quyền phép Đức Chúa Trời đã ban cho chúng ta mọi điều thuộc về sự sống và sự tôn kính, khiến chúng ta biết Đấng lấy vinh hiển và nhơn đức mà gọi chúng ta,

4 B y means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.

và bởi vinh hiển nhơn đức ấy, Ngài lại ban lời hứa rất quí rất lớn cho chúng ta, hầu cho nhờ đó anh em được lánh khỏi sự hư nát của thế gian bởi tư dục đến, mà trở nên người dự phần bổn tánh Đức Chúa Trời.

5 F or this very reason, adding your diligence, employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in virtue knowledge (intelligence),

Vậy nên, về phần anh em, phải gắng hết sức thêm cho đức tin mình sự nhơn đức, thêm cho nhơn đức sự học thức,

6 A nd in knowledge self-control, and in self-control steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in steadfastness godliness (piety),

thêm cho học thức sự tiết độ, thêm cho tiết độ sự nhịn nhục, thêm cho nhịn nhục sự tôn kính,

7 A nd in godliness brotherly affection, and in brotherly affection Christian love.

thêm cho tôn kính tình yêu thương anh em, thêm cho tình yêu thương anh em lòng yêu mến.

8 F or as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep from being idle or unfruitful unto the '> full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

Vì nếu các điều đó có đủ trong anh em và đầy dẫy nữa, thì ắt chẳng để cho anh em ở dưng hoặc không kết quả trong sự nhận biết Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ chúng ta đâu.

9 F or whoever lacks these qualities is blind, '> spiritually] shortsighted, seeing only what is near to him, and has become oblivious that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Nhưng ai thiếu những điều đó, thì thành ra người cận thị, người mù; quên hẳn sự làm sạch tội mình ngày trước.

10 B ecause of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.

Vậy, hỡi anh em, hãy chú ý cho chắc chắn về sự Chúa kêu gọi và chọn lựa mình. Làm điều đó anh em sẽ không hề vấp ngã;

11 T hus there will be richly and abundantly provided for you entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

dường ấy, anh em sẽ được cho vào cách rộng rãi trong nước đời đời của Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, là Chúa và Cứu Chúa của chúng ta.

12 S o I intend always to remind you about these things, although indeed you know them and are firm in the truth that now.

Bởi vậy cho nên, dầu anh em biết rõ ràng và chắc chắn trong lẽ thật hiện đây, tôi cũng sẽ nhắc lại những điều đó cho anh em chẳng thôi.

13 I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle (tent, body), to stir you up by way of remembrance,

Nhưng tôi còn ở trong nhà tạm nầy bao lâu, thì coi sự lấy lời rao bảo mà tỉnh thức anh em, là bổn phận của tôi vậy;

14 S ince I know that the laying aside of this body of mine will come speedily, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

vì tôi biết tôi phải vội lìa nhà tạm nầy, như Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ chúng ta đã bảo cho tôi.

15 M oreover, I will diligently endeavor that after my departure (decease) you may be able at all times to call these things to mind.

Nhưng tôi ân cần rằng sau khi tôi đi, anh em có thể hằng nhớ điều tôi đã nói.

16 F or we were not following cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty (grandeur, authority of sovereign power).

Vả, khi chúng tôi đã làm cho anh em biết quyền phép và sự đến của Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ chúng ta, thì chẳng phải là theo những chuyện khéo đặt để, bèn là chính mắt chúng tôi đã ngó thấy sự oai nghiêm Ngài.

17 F or when He was invested with honor and glory from God the Father and a voice was borne to Him by the Majestic Glory, This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased and delight,

Vì Ngài đã nhận lãnh sự tôn trọng vinh hiển từ nơi Đức Chúa Trời, Cha Ngài, khi Đấng tôn nghiêm rất cao phán cùng Ngài rằng: "Nầy là Con yêu dấu của ta, đẹp lòng ta mọi đường."

18 W e heard this voice borne out of heaven, for we were together with Him on the holy mountain.

Chính chúng tôi cũng từng nghe tiếng ấy đến từ trời, lúc chúng tôi ở với Ngài trên hòn núi thánh.

19 A nd we have the prophetic word firmer still. You will do well to pay close attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dismal (squalid and dark) place, until the day breaks through and the Morning Star rises ( comes into being) in your hearts.

Nhơn đó, chúng tôi cùng tin lời các đấng tiên tri chắc chắn hơn, anh em nên chú ý lời đó, như cái đèn soi sáng trong nơi tối tăm, cho đến chừng nào ban ngày lộ ra, và sao mai mọc trong lòng anh em.

20 f irst understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any personal or private or special interpretation (loosening, solving).

Trước hết, phải biết rõ rằng chẳng có lời tiên tri nào trong Kinh Thánh lấy ý riêng giải nghĩa được.

21 F or no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it, but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.

Vì chẳng hề có lời tiên tri nào là bởi ý một người nào mà ra, nhưng ấy là Ngài Đức Thánh Linh cảm động mà người ta đã nói bởi Đức Chúa Trời.
