1 A nd immediately when it was morning, the chief priests, with the elders and scribes and the whole council, held a consultation; and when they had bound Jesus, they took Him away '> violently] and handed Him over to Pilate.

Vừa lúc ban mai, các thầy tế lễ cả bàn luận với các trưởng lão, các thầy thông giáo cùng cả tòa công luận; khi đã trói Đức Chúa Jêsus rồi, thì giải nộp cho Phi-lát.

2 A nd Pilate inquired of Him, Are You the King of the Jews? And He replied, It is as you say.

Phi-lát hỏi Ngài rằng: Aáy chính ngươi là Vua dân Giu-đa phải không? Đức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Thật như lời.

3 A nd the chief priests kept accusing Him of many things.

Các thầy tế lễ cả cáo Ngài nhiều điều.

4 A nd Pilate again asked Him, Have You no answer to make? See how many charges they are bringing against You!

Phi-lát lại tra gạn Ngài, mà rằng: Ngươi chẳng đối đáp chi hết sao? Hãy coi họ cáo tội ngươi biết bao nhiêu!

5 B ut Jesus made no further answer at all, so that Pilate wondered and marveled.

Nhưng Đức Chúa Jêsus chẳng trả lời chi nữa, nên mỗi Phi-lát lấy làm lạ.

6 N ow at the Feast he set free for them any one prisoner whom they requested.

Vả, hễ đến ngày lễ Vượt Qua, quan vốn quen thói tha cho dân một tên tù, tùy theo dân xin.

7 A nd among the rioters in the prison who had committed murder in the insurrection there was a man named Barabbas.

Bấy giờ có một đứa tên là Ba-ra-ba bị tù với kẻ làm loạn, vì trong khi nổi loạn, chúng nó phạm tội giết người.

8 A nd the throng came up and began asking Pilate to do as he usually did for them.

Đoàn dân đã lên, bèn xin Phi-lát làm cho mình theo như lệ thường.

9 A nd he replied to them, Do you wish me to set free for you the King of the Jews?

Phi-lát trả lời rằng: Các ngươi muốn ta tha Vua dân Giu-đa cho chăng?

10 F or he was aware that it was '> because they were prompted] by envy that the chief priests had delivered Him up.

Vì người biết rõ các thầy tế lễ cả đã nộp Ngài bởi lòng ghen ghét.

11 B ut the chief priests stirred up the crowd to get him to release for them Barabbas instead.

Nhưng các thầy tế lễ cả xui dân xin người tha tên Ba-ra-ba cho mình thì hơn.

12 A nd again Pilate said to them, Then what shall I do with the Man Whom you call the King of the Jews?

Phi-lát lại cất tiếng hỏi rằng: Vậy thì các ngươi muốn ta dùng cách nào xử người mà các ngươi gọi là Vua dân Giu-đa?

13 A nd they shouted back again, Crucify Him!

Chúng lại kêu lên rằng: Hãy đóng đinh nó vào thập tự giá!

14 B ut Pilate said to them, Why? What has He done that is evil? But they shouted with all their might all the more, Crucify Him '> at once]!

Phi-lát nói cùng chúng rằng: Song người nầy đã làm điều ác gì? Chúng lại kêu lớn tiếng hơn rằng: Hãy đóng đinh nó vào thập tự giá!

15 S o Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, set Barabbas free for them; and after having Jesus whipped, he handed over to be crucified.

Phi-lát muốn cho đẹp lòng dân, bèn tha tên Ba-ra-ba; và sai đánh đòn Đức Chúa Jêsus, rồi giao Ngài cho chúng đem đóng đinh trên cây thập tự.

16 T hen the soldiers led Him away to the courtyard inside the palace, that is, the Praetorium, and they called the entire detachment of soldiers together.

Lính điệu Đức Chúa Jêsus vào sân trong, tức là trong chỗ trường án; và nhóm cả cơ binh lại đó.

17 A nd they dressed Him in purple, and, weaving together a crown of thorns, they placed it on Him.

Họ choàng cho Ngài một cái áo điều, và đội trên đầu Ngài một cái mão bằng gai họ đã đương,

18 A nd they began to salute Him, Hail (greetings, good health to You, long life to You), King of the Jews!

rồi chào Ngài rằng: Kính lạy Vua dân Giu-đa!

19 A nd they struck His head with a staff made of a reed and spat on Him and kept bowing their knees in homage to Him.

Lại lấy cây sậy đánh đầu Ngài, nhổ trên Ngài, và quì xuống trước mặt Ngài mà lạy.

20 A nd when they had making sport of Him, they took the purple off of Him and put His own clothes on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him.

Khi họ đã nhạo cười Ngài như vậy rồi, thì cổi áo điều ra, mặc áo của Ngài lại cho Ngài, và đem ra để đóng đinh trên cây thập tự.

21 A nd they forced a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming in from the field (country), to carry His cross.

Có một tên Si-môn kia, người thành Sy-ren, là cha A-léc-xan-đơ và Ru-phu, ở ngoài ruộng về, đi ngang qua đó; họ bắt phải vác cây thập tự.

22 A nd they led Him to Golgotha, meaning The Place of a Skull.

Họ đem Đức Chúa Jêsus đến nơi kia, gọi là Gô-gô-tha, nghĩa là chỗ Sọ.

23 A nd they give Him wine mingled with myrrh, but He would not take it.

Họ cho Ngài uống rượu hòa với một dược; song Ngài không uống.

24 A nd they crucified Him; and they divided His garments and distributed them among themselves, throwing lots for them to decide who should take what.

Khi đóng đinh Ngài trên cây thập tự rồi, họ chia áo xống Ngài cho nhau, bắt thăm để biết ai được gì.

25 A nd it was the third hour (about nine o’clock in the morning) when they crucified Him.

Lúc đóng đinh Ngài, là giờ thứ ba.

26 A nd the inscription of the accusation against Him was written above, The King of the Jews.

27 A nd with Him they crucified two robbers, one on right hand and one on His left.

Cũng có hai đứa ăn cướp bị đóng đinh với Ngài, một đứa tại cây thập tự bên hữu Ngài, một đứa tại cây thập tự bên tả.

28 A nd the Scripture was fulfilled which says, He was counted among the transgressors.

Như vậy được ứng nghiệm lời Kinh Thánh rằng: Ngài đã bị kể vào hàng kẻ dữ.

29 A nd those who passed by kept reviling Him and reproaching Him abusively in harsh and insolent language, wagging their heads and saying, Aha! You Who would destroy the temple and build it in three days,

Những kẻ đi ngang qua đó chế báng Ngài, lắc đầu mà nói rằng: Ê! ngươi là kẻ phá đền thờ, và cất lại trong ba ngày,

30 N ow rescue Yourself '> from death], coming down from the cross!

hãy cứu lấy mình, xuống khỏi cây thập tự đi!

31 S o also the chief priests, with the scribes, made sport of Him to one another, saying, He rescued others '> from death]; Himself He is unable to rescue.

Các thầy tế lễ cả và các thầy thông giáo cũng nói với nhau như vậy, mà nhạo cười Ngài rằng: Hắn đã cứu kẻ khác; mà cứu mình không được!

32 L et the Christ (the Messiah), the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and trust in and rely on Him and adhere to Him! Those who were crucified with Him also reviled and reproached Him.

Hỡi Đấng Christ, Vua dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, bây giờ hãy xuống khỏi cây thập tự, để cho chúng ta thấy và tin! Hai đứa bị đóng đinh cùng Ngài cũng nhiếc móc Ngài nữa.

33 A nd when the sixth hour (about midday) had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour (about three o’clock).

Đến giờ thứ sáu, khắp đất đều tối tăm mù mịt cho tới giờ thứ chín.

34 A nd at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?—which means, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me '> deserting Me and leaving Me helpless and abandoned]?

Đến giờ thứ chín, Đức Chúa Jêsus kêu lớn tiếng rằng: Ê-lô -i, Ê-lô -i, lam-ma-sa-bách-ta-ni? nghĩa là: Đức Chúa Trời tôi ơi, Đức Chúa Jêsus tôi ơi, sao Ngài lìa bỏ tôi?

35 A nd some of those standing by, hearing it, said, See! He is calling Elijah!

Có mấy người đứng đó nghe vậy, thì nói rằng: Coi kìa, hắn kêu Ê-li.

36 A nd one man ran, and, filling a sponge with vinegar (a mixture of sour wine and water), put it on a staff made of a reed and gave it to Him to drink, saying, Hold off! Let us see whether Elijah come to take Him down.

Có một người trong bọn họ chạy lấy bông đá thấm đầy giấm, để trên đầu cây sậy, đưa cho Ngài uống, mà nói rằng: Hãy để, chúng ta coi thử Ê-li có đến đem hắn xuống chăng!

37 A nd Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed out His life.

Nhưng Đức Chúa Jêsus kêu một tiếng lớn, rồi trút linh hồn.

38 A nd the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

Màn trong đền thờ xé ra làm đôi từ trên chí dưới.

39 A nd when the centurion who stood facing Him saw Him expire this way, he said, Really, this Man was God’s Son!

Thầy đội đứng đối ngang Ngài, thấy Ngài trút linh hồn như vậy, thì nói rằng: Người nầy quả thật là Con Đức Chúa Trời.

40 N ow some women were there also, looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome,

Lại có những đờn bà đứng xa xa mà xem. Trong số ấy có Ma-ri, Ma-đơ-len, Ma-ri là mẹ Gia-cơ nhỏ, và Giô-sê, cùng Sa-lô-mê,

41 W ho, when was in Galilee, were in the habit of accompanying and ministering to Him; and also many other who had come up with Him to Jerusalem.

là ba người đã theo hầu việc Ngài khi Ngài ở xứ Ga-li-lê; cũng có nhiều đờn bà khác nữa, là những người đã theo Ngài lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.

42 A s evening had already come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, before the Sabbath,

Bấy giờ là ngày sắm sửa, nghĩa là hôm trước ngày Sa-bát; khi đã chiều tối,

43 J oseph, he of Arimathea, noble and honorable in rank and a respected member of the council (Sanhedrin), who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, daring the consequences, took courage and ventured to go to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

có một người tên là Giô-sép, Ở thành A-ri-ma-thê, là nghị viên tòa công luận có danh vọng, cũng trông đợi nước Đức Chúa Trời. Người bạo gan đến Phi-lát mà xin xác Đức Chúa Jêsus.

44 B ut Pilate wondered whether He was dead so soon, and, having called the centurion, he asked him whether was already dead.

Phi-lát lấy làm lạ về Ngài chết mau như vậy, bèn đòi thầy đội đến mà hỏi thử Ngài chết đã lâu chưa.

45 A nd when he learned from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

Vừa nghe tin thầy đội trình, thì giao xác cho Giô-sép.

46 A nd Joseph bought a linen cloth '> for swathing dead bodies], and, taking Him down from the cross, he rolled Him up in the linen cloth and placed Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock. Then he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

Người đã mua vải liệm, cất xác Đức Chúa Jêsus xuống khỏi cây thập tự, dùng vải liệm vấn lấy Ngài, rồi để xác trong huyệt đã đục trong hòn đá lớn, đoạn, lăn một hòn đá chận cửa huyệt lại.

47 A nd Mary Magdalene and Mary of Joses were '> attentively] observing where He was laid.

Vả, Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len cùng Ma-ri mẹ Giô-sê, đều thấy chỗ táng Ngài.
