1 B ut the Spirit distinctly and expressly declares that in latter times some will turn away from the faith, giving attention to deluding and seducing spirits and doctrines that demons teach,

Vả, Đức Thánh Linh phán tỏ tường rằng, trong đời sau rốt, có mấy kẻ sẽ bội đạo mà theo các thần lừa dối, và đạo lý của quỉ dữ,

2 T hrough the hypocrisy and pretensions of liars whose consciences are seared (cauterized),

bị lầm lạc bởi sự giả hình của giáo sư dối, là kẻ có lương tâm đã lì,

3 W ho forbid people to marry and to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and have knowledge of the truth.

họ sẽ cấm cưới gả, và biểu kiêng các thức ăn Đức Chúa Trời đã dựng nên cho kẻ có lòng tin và biết lẽ thật, tạ ơn mà dùng lấy.

4 F or everything God has created is good, and nothing is to be thrown away or refused if it is received with thanksgiving.

Vả, mọi vật Đức Chúa Trời đã dựng nên đều là tốt lành cả, không một vật chi đáng bỏ, miễn là mình cảm ơn mà ăn lấy thì được;

5 F or it is hallowed and consecrated by the Word of God and by prayer.

vì nhờ lời Đức Chúa Trời và lời cầu nguyện mà vật đó được nên thánh.

6 I f you lay all these instructions before the brethren, you will be a worthy steward and a good minister of Christ Jesus, ever nourishing your own self on the truths of the faith and of the good instruction which you have closely followed.

Con giải tỏ các việc đó cho anh em, thì con sẽ nên kẻ giúp việc ngay lành của Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, được nuôi bởi các lời của đức tin và đạo lý lành mà con đã theo.

7 B ut refuse and avoid irreverent legends (profane and impure and godless fictions, mere grandmothers’ tales) and silly myths, and express your disapproval of them. Train yourself toward godliness (piety),.

Những lời hư ngụy phàm tục giống như chuyện bịa các bà già, thì hãy bỏ đi, và tập tành sự tin kính.

8 F or physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.

Vì sự tập tành thân thể ích lợi chẳng bao lăm, còn như sự tin kính là ích cho mọi việc, vì có lời hứa về đời nầy và về đời sau nữa.

9 T his saying is reliable and worthy of complete acceptance by everybody.

Aáy đó là một lời nói chắc chắn, đáng đem lòng tin trọn vẹn mà nhận lấy.

10 W ith a view to this we toil and strive, suffer reproach, because we have hope on the living God, Who is the Savior (Preserver, Maintainer, Deliverer) of all men, especially of those who believe (trust in, rely on, and adhere to Him).

Vả, nếu chúng ta khó nhọc và đánh trận, ấy là đã để sự trông cậy ta trong Đức Chúa Trời hằng sống, Ngài là Cứu Chúa của mọi người, mà nhứt là của tín đồ.

11 C ontinue to command these things and to teach them.

Kìa là điều con phải rao truyền và dạy dỗ.

12 L et no one despise or think less of you because of your youth, but be an example (pattern) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.

Chớ để người ta khinh con vì trẻ tuổi; nhưng phải lấy lời nói, nết làm, sự yêu thương, đức tin và sự tinh sạch mà làm gương cho các tín đồ.

13 T ill I come, devote yourself to reading, to exhortation (preaching and personal appeals), and to teaching and instilling doctrine.

Hãy chăm chỉ đọc sách, khuyên bảo, dạy dỗ, cho đến chừng ta đến.

14 D o not neglect the gift which is in you, which was directly imparted to you by prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands upon you.

Đừng bỏ quên ơn ban trong lòng con, là ơn bởi lời tiên tri nhơn hội trưởng lão đặt tay mà đã ban cho con vậy.

15 P ractice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them, so that your progress may be evident to everybody.

Hãy săn sóc chuyên lo những việc đó, hầu cho thiên hạ thấy sự tấn tới của con.

16 L ook well to yourself and to teaching; persevere in these things, for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

Hãy giữ chính mình con và sự dạy dỗ của con; phải bền đỗ trong mọi sự đó, vì làm như vậy thì con và kẻ nghe con sẽ được cứu.
