1 A nd immediately when it was morning, the chief priests, with the elders and scribes and the whole council, held a consultation; and when they had bound Jesus, they took Him away '> violently] and handed Him over to Pilate.

Muy de mañana, los principales sacerdotes prepararon enseguida una reunión con los ancianos, los escribas y todo el concilio; y atando a Jesús, le llevaron y le entregaron a Pilato.

2 A nd Pilate inquired of Him, Are You the King of the Jews? And He replied, It is as you say.

Pilato le preguntó: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Respondiendo El, le dijo: Tú lo dices.

3 A nd the chief priests kept accusing Him of many things.

Y los principales sacerdotes le acusaban de muchas cosas.

4 A nd Pilate again asked Him, Have You no answer to make? See how many charges they are bringing against You!

De nuevo Pilato le preguntó, diciendo: ¿No respondes nada? Mira de cuántas cosas te acusan.

5 B ut Jesus made no further answer at all, so that Pilate wondered and marveled.

Pero Jesús no respondió nada más; de modo que Pilato estaba asombrado. Jesús o Barrabás

6 N ow at the Feast he set free for them any one prisoner whom they requested.

Ahora bien, en cada fiesta él acostumbraba soltarles un preso, el que ellos pidieran.

7 A nd among the rioters in the prison who had committed murder in the insurrection there was a man named Barabbas.

Y uno llamado Barrabás había sido encarcelado con los sediciosos que habían cometido homicidio en la insurrección.

8 A nd the throng came up and began asking Pilate to do as he usually did for them.

Y subiendo la multitud, comenzó a pedirle que hiciera como siempre les había hecho.

9 A nd he replied to them, Do you wish me to set free for you the King of the Jews?

Entonces Pilato les contestó, diciendo: ¿Queréis que os suelte al Rey de los judíos?

10 F or he was aware that it was '> because they were prompted] by envy that the chief priests had delivered Him up.

Porque sabía que los principales sacerdotes le habían entregado por envidia.

11 B ut the chief priests stirred up the crowd to get him to release for them Barabbas instead.

Pero los principales sacerdotes incitaron a la multitud para que le pidiera que en vez de Jesús les soltara a Barrabás.

12 A nd again Pilate said to them, Then what shall I do with the Man Whom you call the King of the Jews?

Y Pilato, tomando de nuevo la palabra, les decía: ¿Qué haré, entonces, con el que llamáis el Rey de los judíos?

13 A nd they shouted back again, Crucify Him!

Ellos le respondieron a gritos: ¡Crucifícale!

14 B ut Pilate said to them, Why? What has He done that is evil? But they shouted with all their might all the more, Crucify Him '> at once]!

Y Pilato les decía: ¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho? Y ellos gritaban aún más: ¡Crucifícale!

15 S o Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, set Barabbas free for them; and after having Jesus whipped, he handed over to be crucified.

Pilato, queriendo complacer a la multitud, les soltó a Barrabás; y después de hacer azotar a Jesús, le entregó para que fuera crucificado. Los soldados se mofan de Jesús

16 T hen the soldiers led Him away to the courtyard inside the palace, that is, the Praetorium, and they called the entire detachment of soldiers together.

Entonces los soldados le llevaron dentro del palacio, es decir, al Pretorio, y convocaron a toda la cohorte romana.

17 A nd they dressed Him in purple, and, weaving together a crown of thorns, they placed it on Him.

Le vistieron de púrpura, y después de tejer una corona de espinas, se la pusieron;

18 A nd they began to salute Him, Hail (greetings, good health to You, long life to You), King of the Jews!

y comenzaron a vitorearle: ¡Salve, Rey de los judíos!

19 A nd they struck His head with a staff made of a reed and spat on Him and kept bowing their knees in homage to Him.

Le golpeaban la cabeza con una caña y le escupían, y poniéndose de rodillas le hacían reverencias.

20 A nd when they had making sport of Him, they took the purple off of Him and put His own clothes on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him.

Y después de haberse burlado de El, le quitaron la púrpura, le pusieron sus ropas y le sacaron para crucificarle.

21 A nd they forced a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming in from the field (country), to carry His cross.

Y obligaron a uno que pasaba y que venía del campo, Simón de Cirene, el padre de Alejandro y Rufo, a que llevara la cruz de Jesús. La crucifixión

22 A nd they led Him to Golgotha, meaning The Place of a Skull.

Le llevaron al lugar llamado Gólgota, que traducido significa: Lugar de la Calavera.

23 A nd they give Him wine mingled with myrrh, but He would not take it.

Y trataron de darle vino mezclado con mirra, pero El no lo tomó.

24 A nd they crucified Him; and they divided His garments and distributed them among themselves, throwing lots for them to decide who should take what.

Cuando le crucificaron, se repartieron sus vestidos, echando suertes sobre ellos para decidir lo que cada uno tomaría.

25 A nd it was the third hour (about nine o’clock in the morning) when they crucified Him.

Era la hora tercera cuando le crucificaron.

26 A nd the inscription of the accusation against Him was written above, The King of the Jews.

Y la inscripción de la acusación contra El decía: EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS.

27 A nd with Him they crucified two robbers, one on right hand and one on His left.

Crucificaron con El a dos ladrones; uno a su derecha y otro a su izquierda.

28 A nd the Scripture was fulfilled which says, He was counted among the transgressors.

Y se cumplió la Escritura que dice: Y con los transgresores fue contado.

29 A nd those who passed by kept reviling Him and reproaching Him abusively in harsh and insolent language, wagging their heads and saying, Aha! You Who would destroy the temple and build it in three days,

Y los que pasaban le injuriaban, meneando la cabeza y diciendo: ¡Bah! Tú que destruyes el templo y en tres días lo reedificas,

30 N ow rescue Yourself '> from death], coming down from the cross!

¡sálvate a ti mismo descendiendo de la cruz!

31 S o also the chief priests, with the scribes, made sport of Him to one another, saying, He rescued others '> from death]; Himself He is unable to rescue.

De igual manera, también los principales sacerdotes junto con los escribas, burlándose de El entre ellos, decían: A otros salvó, a sí mismo no puede salvarse.

32 L et the Christ (the Messiah), the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and trust in and rely on Him and adhere to Him! Those who were crucified with Him also reviled and reproached Him.

Que este Cristo, el Rey de Israel, descienda ahora de la cruz, para que veamos y creamos. Y los que estaban crucificados con El también le insultaban. Muerte de Jesús

33 A nd when the sixth hour (about midday) had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour (about three o’clock).

Cuando llegó la hora sexta, hubo oscuridad sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena.

34 A nd at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?—which means, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me '> deserting Me and leaving Me helpless and abandoned]?

Y a la hora novena Jesús exclamó con fuerte voz: Eloi, Eloi, ¿lema sabactani ?, que traducido significa, Dios mio, Dios mio, ¿por que me has abandonado ?

35 A nd some of those standing by, hearing it, said, See! He is calling Elijah!

Algunos de los que estaban allí, al oír lo, decían: Mirad, a Elías llama.

36 A nd one man ran, and, filling a sponge with vinegar (a mixture of sour wine and water), put it on a staff made of a reed and gave it to Him to drink, saying, Hold off! Let us see whether Elijah come to take Him down.

Entonces uno corrió y empapó una esponja en vinagre, y poniéndola en una caña, le dio a beber, diciendo: Dejad, veamos si Elías viene a bajarle.

37 A nd Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed out His life.

Y Jesús, dando un fuerte grito, expiró.

38 A nd the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

Y el velo del templo se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo.

39 A nd when the centurion who stood facing Him saw Him expire this way, he said, Really, this Man was God’s Son!

Viendo el centurión que estaba frente a El, la manera en que expiró, dijo: En verdad este hombre era Hijo de Dios.

40 N ow some women were there also, looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome,

Había también unas mujeres mirando de lejos, entre las que estaban María Magdalena, María, la madre de Jacobo el menor y de José, y Salomé,

41 W ho, when was in Galilee, were in the habit of accompanying and ministering to Him; and also many other who had come up with Him to Jerusalem.

las cuales cuando Jesús estaba en Galilea, le seguían y le servían; y había muchas otras que habían subido con El a Jerusalén. Sepultura de Jesús

42 A s evening had already come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, before the Sabbath,

Ya al atardecer, como era el día de la preparación, es decir, la víspera del día de reposo,

43 J oseph, he of Arimathea, noble and honorable in rank and a respected member of the council (Sanhedrin), who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, daring the consequences, took courage and ventured to go to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

vino José de Arimatea, miembro prominente del concilio, que también esperaba el reino de Dios; y llenándose de valor, entró adonde estaba Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.

44 B ut Pilate wondered whether He was dead so soon, and, having called the centurion, he asked him whether was already dead.

Pilato se sorprendió de que ya hubiera muerto, y llamando al centurión, le preguntó si ya estaba muerto.

45 A nd when he learned from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

Y comprobando esto por medio del centurión, le concedió el cuerpo a José,

46 A nd Joseph bought a linen cloth '> for swathing dead bodies], and, taking Him down from the cross, he rolled Him up in the linen cloth and placed Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock. Then he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

quien compró un lienzo de lino, y bajándole de la cruz, le envolvió en el lienzo de lino y le puso en un sepulcro que había sido excavado en la roca; e hizo rodar una piedra a la entrada del sepulcro.

47 A nd Mary Magdalene and Mary of Joses were '> attentively] observing where He was laid.

Y María Magdalena y María, la madre de José, miraban para saber dónde le ponían.
