1 T hen He was praying in a certain place; and when He stopped, one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.

Y aconteció que estando Jesús orando en cierto lugar, cuando terminó, le dijo uno de sus discípulos: Señor, enséñanos a orar, así como Juan enseñó también a sus discípulos.

2 A nd He said to them, When you pray, say: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Y El les dijo: Cuando oréis, decid: “ Padre, santificado sea tu nombre. Venga tu reino.

3 G ive us daily our bread '> food for the morrow].

“Danos hoy el pan nuestro de cada día.

4 A nd forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And bring us not into temptation but rescue us from evil.

“Y perdónanos nuestros pecados, porque también nosotros perdonamos a todos los que nos deben. Y no nos metas en tentación.”

5 A nd He said to them, Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and will say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves,

También les dijo: Supongamos que uno de vosotros tiene un amigo, y va a él a medianoche y le dice: “Amigo, préstame tres panes,

6 F or a friend of mine who is on a journey has just come, and I have nothing to put before him;

porque un amigo mío ha llegado de viaje a mi casa, y no tengo nada que ofrecerle ”;

7 A nd he from within will answer, Do not disturb me; the door is now closed, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and supply you ?

y aquél, respondiendo desde adentro, le dice: “No me molestes; la puerta ya está cerrada, y mis hijos y yo estamos acostados; no puedo levantarme para darte nada.”

8 I tell you, although he will not get up and supply him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his shameless persistence and insistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

Os digo que aunque no se levante a darle algo por ser su amigo, no obstante, por su importunidad se levantará y le dará cuanto necesite.

9 S o I say to you, Ask and keep on asking and it shall be given you; seek and keep on seeking and you shall find; knock and keep on knocking and the door shall be opened to you.

Y yo os digo: Pedid, y se os dará; buscad, y hallaréis; llamad, y se os abrirá.

10 F or everyone who asks and keeps on asking receives; and he who seeks and keeps on seeking finds; and to him who knocks and keeps on knocking, the door shall be opened.

Porque todo el que pide, recibe; y el que busca, halla; y al que llama, se le abrirá.

11 W hat father among you, if his son asks for a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; or if he asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent?

O suponed que a uno de vosotros que es padre, su hijo le pide pan; ¿acaso le dará una piedra? O si le pide un pescado; ¿acaso le dará una serpiente en lugar del pescado?

12 O r if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?

O si le pide un huevo; ¿acaso le dará un escorpión?

13 I f you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts '> that are to their advantage] to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!

Pues si vosotros siendo malos, sabéis dar buenas dádivas a vuestros hijos, ¿cuánto más vuestro Padre celestial dará el Espíritu Santo a los que se lo pidan ? Jesús y Beelzebú

14 N ow Jesus was driving out a demon that was dumb; and it occurred that when the demon had gone out, the dumb man spoke. And the crowds marveled.

Estaba Jesús echando fuera un demonio, que era mudo, y sucedió que cuando el demonio salió, el mudo habló; y las multitudes se maravillaron.

15 B ut some of them said, He drives out demons by Beelzebub, the prince of demons,

Pero algunos de ellos dijeron: El echa fuera los demonios por Beelzebú, príncipe de los demonios.

16 W hile others, to try and test and tempt Him, demanded a sign of Him from heaven.

Y otros, para ponerle a prueba, demandaban de El una señal del cielo.

17 B ut He, aware of their intent and purpose, said to them, Every kingdom split up against itself is doomed and brought to desolation, and so house falls upon house.

Pero conociendo El sus pensamientos, les dijo: Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo es asolado; y una casa dividida contra sí misma, se derrumba.

18 A nd if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom last? For you say that I expel demons with the help of and by Beelzebub.

Y si también Satanás está dividido contra sí mismo, ¿cómo permanecerá en pie su reino? Porque vosotros decís que yo echo fuera demonios por Beelzebú.

19 N ow if I expel demons with the help of and by Beelzebub, with whose help and by whom do your sons drive them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

Y si yo echo fuera demonios por Beelzebú, ¿por quién los echan fuera vuestros hijos? Por consiguiente, ellos serán vuestros jueces.

20 B ut if I drive out the demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Pero si yo por el dedo de Dios echo fuera los demonios, entonces el reino de Dios ha llegado a vosotros.

21 W hen the strong man, fully armed, '> from his courtyard] guards his own dwelling, his belongings are undisturbed.

Cuando un hombre fuerte, bien armado, custodia su palacio, sus bienes están seguros.

22 B ut when one stronger than he attacks him and conquers him, he robs him of his whole armor on which he had relied and divides up and distributes all his goods as plunder (spoil).

Pero cuando uno más fuerte que él lo ataca y lo vence, le quita todas sus armas en las cuales había confiado y distribuye su botín.

23 H e who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.

El que no está conmigo, contra mí está; y el que conmigo no recoge, desparrama.

24 W hen the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it roams through waterless places in search of rest (release, refreshment, ease); and finding none it says, I will go back to my house from which I came.

Cuando el espíritu inmundo sale del hombre, pasa por lugares áridos buscando descanso; y al no hallarlo, dice: “Volveré a mi casa de donde salí.”

25 A nd when it arrives, it finds swept and put in order and furnished and decorated.

Y cuando llega, la encuentra barrida y arreglada.

26 A nd it goes and brings other spirits, seven, more evil than itself, and they enter in, settle down, and dwell there; and the last state of that person is worse than the first.

Entonces va y toma consigo otros siete espíritus peores que él, y entrando, moran allí; y el estado final de aquel hombre resulta peor que el primero. La verdadera dicha

27 N ow it occurred that as He was saying these things, a certain woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, Blessed (happy and to be envied) is the womb that bore You and the breasts that You sucked!

Y sucedió que mientras decía estas cosas, una de las mujeres en la multitud alzó su voz y le dijo: ¡Dichosa la matriz que te concibió y los senos que te criaron!

28 B ut He said, Blessed (happy and to be envied) rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey and practice it!

Pero El dijo: Al contrario, dichosos los que oyen la palabra de Dios y la guardan. La gente demanda señal

29 N ow as the crowds were thronging Him, He began to say, This present generation is a wicked one; it seeks and demands a sign (miracle), but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah.

Como la multitud se aglomeraba, comenzó a decir: Esta generación es una generación perversa; busca señal, y ninguna señal se le dará, sino la señal de Jonás.

30 F or as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will also the Son of Man be to this age and generation.

Porque de la misma manera que Jonás vino a ser una señal para los ninivitas, así también lo será el Hijo del Hombre para esta generación.

31 T he queen of the South will arise in the judgment with the people of this age and generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and notice, here is more than Solomon.

La Reina del Sur se levantará en el juicio con los hombres de esta generación y los condenará, porque ella vino desde los confines de la tierra para oír la sabiduría de Salomón; y mirad, algo más grande que Salomón está aquí.

32 T he men of Nineveh will appear as witnesses at the judgment with this generation and will condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, here is more than Jonah.

Los hombres de Nínive se levantarán en el juicio con esta generación y la condenarán, porque ellos se arrepintieron con la predicación de Jonás; y mirad, algo más grande que Jonás está aquí. La lámpara del cuerpo

33 N o one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or crypt or under a bushel measure, but on a lampstand, that those who are coming in may see the light.

Nadie, cuando enciende una lámpara, la pone en un sótano ni debajo de un almud, sino sobre el candelero, para que los que entren vean la luz.

34 Y our eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye ( your conscience) is sound and fulfilling its office, your whole body is full of light; but when it is not sound and is not fulfilling its office, your body is full of darkness.

La lámpara de tu cuerpo es tu ojo; cuando tu ojo está sano, también todo tu cuerpo está lleno de luz; pero cuando está malo, también tu cuerpo está lleno de oscuridad.

35 B e careful, therefore, that the light that is in you is not darkness.

Mira, pues, que la luz que en ti hay no sea oscuridad.

36 I f then your entire body is illuminated, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its bright rays gives you light.

Así que, si todo tu cuerpo está lleno de luz, sin tener parte alguna en tinieblas, estará totalmente iluminado como cuando la lámpara te alumbra con sus rayos. Jesús denuncia a los fariseos y a los intérpretes de la ley

37 N ow while Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee invited Him to take dinner with him, so He entered and reclined at table.

Cuando terminó de hablar, un fariseo le rogó que comiera con él; y Jesús entró y se sentó a la mesa.

38 T he Pharisee noticed and was astonished that Jesus did not first wash before dinner.

Cuando el fariseo vio esto, se sorprendió de que Jesús no se hubiera lavado primero antes de comer, según el ritual judío.

39 B ut the Lord said to him, Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside you yourselves are full of greed and robbery and extortion and malice and wickedness.

Pero el Señor le dijo: Ahora bien, vosotros los fariseos limpiáis lo de afuera del vaso y del plato; pero por dentro estáis llenos de robo y de maldad.

40 Y ou senseless (foolish, stupid) ones! Did not He Who made the outside make the inside also?

Necios, el que hizo lo de afuera, ¿no hizo también lo de adentro?

41 B ut give as donations to the poor of those things which are within and behold, everything is purified and clean for you.

Dad más bien lo que está dentro como obra de caridad, y entonces todo os será limpio.

42 B ut woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but disregard and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done without leaving the others undone.

Mas ¡ay de vosotros, fariseos!, porque pagáis el diezmo de la menta y la ruda y toda clase de hortaliza, y sin embargo pasáis por alto la justicia y el amor de Dios; pero esto es lo que debíais haber practicado sin descuidar lo otro.

43 W oe to you, Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and to be greeted and bowed down to in the marketplaces.

¡Ay de vosotros, fariseos!, porque amáis los primeros asientos en las sinagogas y los saludos respetuosos en las plazas.

44 W oe to you! For you are like graves which are not marked or seen, and men walk over them without being aware of it.

¡Ay de vosotros!, porque sois como sepulcros que no se ven, sobre los que andan los hombres sin saber lo.

45 O ne of the experts in the Law answered Him, Teacher, in saying this, You reproach and outrage and affront even us!

Respondiendo uno de los intérpretes de la ley, le dijo: Maestro, cuando dices esto, también a nosotros nos insultas.

46 B ut He said, Woe to you, the lawyers, also! For you load men with oppressive burdens hard to bear, and you do not personally '> gently] touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

Y El dijo: ¡Ay también de vosotros, intérpretes de la ley!, porque cargáis a los hombres con cargas difíciles de llevar, y vosotros ni siquiera tocáis las cargas con uno de vuestros dedos.

47 W oe to you! For you are rebuilding and repairing the tombs of the prophets, whom your fathers killed (destroyed).

¡Ay de vosotros!, porque edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas, y fueron vuestros padres quienes los mataron.

48 S o you bear witness and give your full approval and consent to the deeds of your fathers; for they actually killed them, and you rebuild and repair monuments to them.

De modo que sois testigos, y aprobáis las acciones de vuestros padres; porque ellos los mataron y vosotros edificáis sus sepulcros.

49 F or this reason also the wisdom of God said, I will send them prophets and apostles, of whom they will put to death and persecute,

Por eso la sabiduría de Dios también dijo: “Les enviaré profetas y apóstoles, y de ellos, matarán a algunos y perseguirán a otros,

50 S o that the blood of all the prophets shed from the foundation of the world may be charged against and required of this age and generation,

para que la sangre de todos los profetas, derramada desde la fundación del mundo, se le cargue a esta generación,

51 F rom the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was slain between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against and required of this age and generation.

desde la sangre de Abel hasta la sangre de Zacarías, que pereció entre el altar y la casa de Dios; sí, os digo que le será cargada a esta generación.”

52 W oe to you, lawyers (experts in the Mosaic Law)! For you have taken away the key to knowledge; you did not go in yourselves, and you hindered and prevented those who were entering.

¡Ay de vosotros, intérpretes de la ley!, porque habéis quitado la llave del conocimiento; vosotros mismos no entrasteis, y a los que estaban entrando se lo impedisteis.

53 A s He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be enraged with and set themselves violently against Him and to draw Him out and provoke Him to speak of many things,

Cuando salió de allí, los escribas y los fariseos comenzaron a acosarle en gran manera, y a interrogarle minuciosamente sobre muchas cosas,

54 S ecretly watching and plotting and lying in wait for Him, to seize upon something He might say.
