1 I n those days it occurred that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole Roman empire should be registered.

Y aconteció en aquellos días que salió un edicto de César Augusto, para que se hiciera un censo de todo el mundo habitado.

2 T his was the first enrollment, and it was made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

Este fue el primer censo que se levantó cuando Cirenio era gobernador de Siria.

3 A nd all the people were going to be registered, each to his own city or town.

Y todos se dirigían a inscribirse en el censo, cada uno a su ciudad.

4 A nd Joseph also went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the town of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

Y también José subió de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David que se llama Belén, por ser él de la casa y de la familia de David,

5 T o be enrolled with Mary, his espoused ( married) wife, who was about to become a mother.

para inscribirse junto con María, desposada con él, la cual estaba encinta.

6 A nd while they were there, the time came for her delivery,

Y sucedió que mientras estaban ellos allí, se cumplieron los días de su alumbramiento.

7 A nd she gave birth to her Son, her Firstborn; and she wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room or place for them in the inn.

Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito; le envolvió en pañales y le acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón. Los pastores y los ángeles

8 A nd in that vicinity there were shepherds living in the field, watching over their flock by night.

En la misma región había pastores que estaban en el campo, cuidando sus rebaños durante las vigilias de la noche.

9 A nd behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord flashed and shone all about them, and they were terribly frightened.

Y un ángel del Señor se les presentó, y la gloria del Señor los rodeó de resplandor, y tuvieron gran temor.

10 B ut the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people.

Mas el ángel les dijo: No temáis, porque he aquí, os traigo buenas nuevas de gran gozo que serán para todo el pueblo;

11 F or to you is born this day in the town of David a Savior, Who is Christ (the Messiah) the Lord!

porque os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor.

12 A nd this will be a sign for you: you will find '> after searching] a Baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.

Y esto os servirá de señal: hallaréis a un niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre.

13 T hen suddenly there appeared with the angel an army of the troops of heaven ( a heavenly knighthood), praising God and saying,

Y de repente apareció con el ángel una multitud de los ejércitos celestiales, alabando a Dios y diciendo:

14 G lory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is well pleased '> men of goodwill, of His favor].

Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz entre los hombres en quienes El se complace.

15 W hen the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing ( saying) that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.

Y aconteció que cuando los ángeles se fueron al cielo, los pastores se decían unos a otros: Vayamos, pues, hasta Belén y veamos esto que ha sucedido, que el Señor nos ha dado a saber.

16 S o they went with haste and '> by searching] found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in a manger.

Fueron a toda prisa, y hallaron a María y a José, y al Niño acostado en el pesebre.

17 A nd when they saw it, they made known what had been told them concerning this Child,

Y cuando lo vieron, dieron a saber lo que se les había dicho acerca de este Niño.

18 A nd all who heard it were astounded and marveled at what the shepherds told them.

Y todos los que lo oyeron se maravillaron de las cosas que les fueron dichas por los pastores.

19 B ut Mary was keeping within herself all these things ( sayings), weighing and pondering them in her heart.

Pero María atesoraba todas estas cosas, reflexionando sobre ellas en su corazón.

20 A nd the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, just as it had been told them.

Y los pastores se volvieron, glorificando y alabando a Dios por todo lo que habían oído y visto, tal como se les había dicho.

21 A nd at the end of eight days, when was to be circumcised, He was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

Cuando se cumplieron los ocho días para circuncidarle, le pusieron por nombre Jesús, el nombre dado por el ángel antes de que El fuera concebido en el seno materno. Jesús presentado en el templo

22 A nd when the time for their purification came according to the Law of Moses, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord—

Cuando se cumplieron los días para la purificación de ellos, según la ley de Moisés, le trajeron a Jerusalén para presentarle al Señor

23 A s it is written in the Law of the Lord, Every male that opens the womb shall be set apart and dedicated and called holy to the Lord—

(como está escrito en la Ley del Señor: Todo varon que abra la matriz sera llamado santo para el Señor),

24 A nd to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord: a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.

y para ofrecer un sacrificio conforme a lo dicho en la Ley del Señor: un par de tortolas o dos pichones.

25 N ow there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, and looking for the Consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

Y había en Jerusalén un hombre que se llamaba Simeón; y este hombre, justo y piadoso, esperaba la consolación de Israel; y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.

26 A nd it had been divinely revealed (communicated) to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

Y por el Espíritu Santo se le había revelado que no vería la muerte sin antes ver al Cristo del Señor.

27 A nd prompted by the Spirit, he came into the temple '> enclosure]; and when the parents brought in the little child Jesus to do for Him what was customary according to the Law,

Movido por el Espíritu fue al templo. Y cuando los padres del niño Jesús le trajeron para cumplir por El el rito de la ley,

28 t ook Him up in his arms and praised and thanked God and said,

él tomó al Niño en sus brazos, y bendijo a Dios y dijo:

29 A nd now, Lord, You are releasing Your servant to depart (leave this world) in peace, according to Your word.

Ahora, Señor, permite que tu siervo se vaya en paz, conforme a tu palabra;

30 F or with my eyes I have seen Your Salvation,

porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación

31 W hich You have ordained and prepared before (in the presence of) all peoples,

la cual has preparado en presencia de todos los pueblos;

32 A Light for revelation to the Gentiles and praise and honor and glory to Your people Israel.

luz de revelacion a los gentiles, y gloria de tu pueblo Israel.

33 A nd His father and mother were marveling at what was said about Him.

Y los padres del niño estaban asombrados de las cosas que de El se decían.

34 A nd Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, Behold, this Child is appointed and destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against—

Simeón los bendijo, y dijo a su madre María: He aquí, este Niño ha sido puesto para la caída y el levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y para ser señal de contradicción

35 A nd a sword will pierce through your own soul also—that the secret thoughts and purposes of many hearts may be brought out and disclosed.

(y una espada traspasará aun tu propia alma) a fin de que sean revelados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.

36 A nd there was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old, having lived with her husband seven years from her maidenhood,

Y había una profetisa, Ana, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser. Ella era de edad muy avanzada, y había vivido con su marido siete años después de su matrimonio,

37 A nd as a widow even for eighty-four years. She did not go out from the temple enclosure, but was worshiping night and day with fasting and prayer.

y después de viuda, hasta los ochenta y cuatro años. Nunca se alejaba del templo, sirviendo noche y día con ayunos y oraciones.

38 A nd she too came up at that same hour, and she returned thanks to God and talked of to all who were looking for the redemption (deliverance) of Jerusalem.

Y llegando ella en ese preciso momento, daba gracias a Dios, y hablaba de El a todos los que esperaban la redención de Jerusalén. Crecimiento de Jesús

39 A nd when they had done everything according to the Law of the Lord, they went back into Galilee to their own town, Nazareth.

Habiendo ellos cumplido con todo conforme a la Ley del Señor, se volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret.

40 A nd the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace (favor and spiritual blessing) of God was upon Him.

Y el Niño crecía y se fortalecía, llenándose de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre El. El niño Jesús discute con los maestros

41 N ow His parents went to Jerusalem every year to the Passover Feast.

Sus padres acostumbraban ir a Jerusalén todos los años a la fiesta de la Pascua.

42 A nd when He was twelve years, they went up, as was their custom.

Y cuando cumplió doce años, subieron allá conforme a la costumbre de la fiesta;

43 A nd when the Feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. Now His parents did not know this,

y al regresar ellos, después de haber pasado todos los días de la fiesta, el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén sin que lo supieran sus padres,

44 B ut, supposing Him to be in the caravan, they traveled on a day’s journey; and they sought Him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances.

y suponiendo que iba en la caravana, anduvieron camino de un día, y comenzaron a buscarle entre los familiares y conocidos.

45 A nd when they failed to find Him, they went back to Jerusalem, looking for Him all the way.

Al no hallarle, volvieron a Jerusalén buscándole.

46 A fter three days they found Him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

Y aconteció que después de tres días le hallaron en el templo, sentado en medio de los maestros, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas.

47 A nd all who heard Him were astonished and overwhelmed with bewildered wonder at His intelligence and understanding and His replies.

Y todos los que le oían estaban asombrados de su entendimiento y de sus respuestas.

48 A nd when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, Child, why have You treated us like this? Here Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You.

Cuando sus padres le vieron, se quedaron maravillados; y su madre le dijo: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has tratado de esta manera? Mira, tu padre y yo te hemos estado buscando llenos de angustia.

49 A nd He said to them, How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary for Me to be in My Father’s house and about My Father’s business?

Entonces El les dijo: ¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿Acaso no sabíais que me era necesario estar en la casa de mi Padre ?

50 B ut they did not comprehend what He was saying to them.

Pero ellos no entendieron las palabras que El les había dicho.

51 A nd He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them; and his mother kept and closely and persistently guarded all these things in her heart.

Y descendió con ellos y vino a Nazaret, y continuó sujeto a ellos. Y su madre atesoraba todas estas cosas en su corazón.

52 A nd Jesus increased in wisdom (in broad and full understanding) and in stature and years, and in favor with God and man.

Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, en estatura y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.
