1 J oram son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

Joram, hijo de Acab, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria en el año dieciocho de Josafat, rey de Judá; y reinó doce años.

2 H e did evil in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father and mother; for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.

E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, aunque no como su padre y su madre, pues quitó el pilar sagrado de Baal que su padre había hecho.

3 Y et he clung to the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not from them.

Sin embargo, se aferró a los pecados de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, con los que hizo pecar a Israel, y no se apartó de ellos.

4 M esha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and paid in tribute to the king of Israel 100, 000 lambs and 100, 000 rams, with the wool.

Y Mesa, rey de Moab, era criador de ovejas, y pagaba al rey de Israel cien mil corderos y la lana de cien mil carneros.

5 B ut when Ahab died, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

Pero sucedió que cuando Acab murió, el rey de Moab se rebeló contra el rey de Israel.

6 S o King Joram went out of Samaria at that time and mustered all Israel.

Y aquel mismo día el rey Joram salió de Samaria y alistó a todo Israel.

7 A nd he sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to war against Moab? And he said, I will go; I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

Entonces fue y envió palabra a Josafat, rey de Judá, diciendo: El rey de Moab se ha rebelado contra mí. ¿Irás conmigo a pelear contra Moab? Y él respondió: Subiré; yo soy como tú, mi pueblo como tu pueblo, mis caballos como tus caballos.

8 J oram said, Which way shall we go up? Jehoshaphat answered, The way through the Wilderness of Edom.

Y dijo: ¿Por qué camino subiremos? Y él respondió: Por el camino del desierto de Edom.

9 S o the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom. They made a circuit of seven days’ journey, but there was no water for the army or for the animals following them.

Fue el rey de Israel con el rey de Judá y el rey de Edom; y dando un rodeo anduvieron siete días de camino; y no había agua para el ejército ni para los animales que los seguían.

10 T hen the king of Israel said, Alas! The Lord has called three kings together to be delivered into Moab’s hand!

Entonces el rey de Israel dijo: ¡Ah! Porque el Señor ha llamado a estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de Moab.

11 B ut Jehoshaphat said, Is there no prophet of the Lord here by whom we may inquire of the Lord? One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, Elisha son of Shaphat, who served Elijah, is here.

Pero Josafat dijo: ¿No hay aquí un profeta del Señor para que consultemos al Señor por medio de él ? Y uno de los siervos del rey de Israel respondió, y dijo: Aquí está Eliseo, hijo de Safat, el que vertía agua en las manos de Elías.

12 J ehoshaphat said, The word of the Lord is with him. So Joram king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to Elisha.

Y Josafat dijo: La palabra del Señor está con él. Y el rey de Israel y Josafat y el rey de Edom descendieron a él.

13 A nd Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father Ahab and your mother Jezebel. But the king of Israel said to him, No, for the Lord has called three kings together to be delivered into the hand of Moab.

Entonces Eliseo dijo al rey de Israel: ¿Qué tengo que ver contigo? Ve a los profetas de tu padre y a los profetas de tu madre. Y el rey de Israel le dijo: No, porque el Señor ha llamado a estos tres reyes para entregarlos en mano de Moab.

14 A nd Elisha said, As the Lord of hosts lives, before Whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would neither look at you nor see you.

Y Eliseo dijo: Vive el Señor de los ejércitos, ante quien estoy, que si no fuera por respeto a la presencia de Josafat, rey de Judá, no te miraría ni te vería.

15 B ut now bring me a minstrel. And while the minstrel played, the hand and power of the Lord came upon.

Mas traedme ahora un tañedor. Y sucedió que mientras el tañedor tocaba, la mano del Señor vino sobre Eliseo.

16 A nd he said, Thus says the Lord: Make this brook bed full of trenches.

Y él dijo: Así dice el Señor: “Haced en este valle muchas zanjas.”

17 F or thus says the Lord: You shall not see wind or rain, yet that ravine shall be filled with water, so you, your cattle, and your beasts may drink.

Pues así dice el Señor: “No veréis viento, ni veréis lluvias; sin embargo ese valle se llenará de agua, y beberéis vosotros y vuestros ganados y vuestras bestias.”

18 T his is but a light thing in the sight of the Lord. He will deliver the Moabites also into your hands.

Aun esto es poco ante los ojos del Señor; también entregará en vuestras manos a los moabitas.

19 Y ou shall smite every fenced city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree and stop all wells of water and mar every good piece of land with stones.

Y destruiréis toda ciudad fortificada y toda ciudad principal, y talaréis todo árbol bueno, cegaréis todas las fuentes de agua y dañaréis con piedras todo terreno fértil.

20 I n the morning, when the sacrifice was offered, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

Y aconteció que por la mañana, a la hora de ofrecer el sacrificio, he aquí, el agua vino por el camino de Edom, y la tierra se llenó de agua.

21 W hen all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, all who were able to put on armor, young and old, gathered and drew up at the border.

Y todos los moabitas oyeron que los reyes habían subido a pelear contra ellos. Y convocaron a todos, desde los que podían ceñir armadura para arriba, y se pusieron en la frontera.

22 W hen they rose up early next morning, and the sun shone upon the water, the Moabites saw the water across from them as red as blood.

Se levantaron muy de mañana, y cuando el sol brilló sobre el agua, los moabitas vieron el agua frente a ellos tan roja como la sangre.

23 A nd they said, This is blood; the kings have surely been fighting and have slain one another. Now then, Moab, to the spoil!

Entonces dijeron: Esto es sangre; sin duda los reyes han peleado entre sí, y se han matado unos a otros. Ahora pues, ¡Moab, al despojo!

24 B ut when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them. And they went forward, slaying the Moabites as they went.

Pero cuando llegaron al campamento de Israel, los israelitas se levantaron e hirieron a los moabitas, y éstos huyeron delante de ellos; y los israelitas se adentraron en el país matando a los moabitas.

25 T hey beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land every man cast a stone, covering it. And they stopped all the springs of water and felled all the good trees, until only the stones of Kir-hareseth were left standing, and the slingers surrounded and took it.

Destruyeron las ciudades, y cada uno arrojó su piedra en toda parcela de tierra buena, y las llenaron. Cegaron todas las fuentes de agua y talaron todos los árboles buenos, hasta dejar en Kir-hareset sólo sus piedras; no obstante, los honderos la rodearon y la destruyeron.

26 A nd when the king of Moab saw that the battle was against him, he took with him 700 swordsmen to break through to the king of Edom, but they could not.

Al ver el rey de Moab que la batalla arreciaba contra él, tomó consigo setecientos hombres que sacaban espada, para abrir brecha hacia el rey de Edom, mas no pudieron.

27 T hen he took his eldest son, who was to reign in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. And there was great indignation, wrath, and bitterness against Israel; and they withdrew from and returned to their own land.

Entonces tomó a su hijo primogénito que había de reinar en su lugar, y lo ofreció en holocausto sobre la muralla. Y hubo gran ira contra los israelitas, quienes se apartaron de allí y regresaron a su tierra.
