1 N ow Abraham journeyed from there toward the South country (the Negeb) and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur; and he lived temporarily in Gerar.

Y Abraham partió de allí hacia la tierra del Neguev, y se estableció entre Cades y Shur; entonces estuvo por un tiempo en Gerar.

2 A nd Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

Y Abraham dijo de Sara su mujer: Es mi hermana. Entonces Abimelec, rey de Gerar, envió y tomó a Sara.

3 B ut God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said, Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.

Pero Dios vino a Abimelec en un sueño de noche, y le dijo: He aquí, eres hombre muerto por razón de la mujer que has tomado, pues está casada.

4 B ut Abimelech had not come near her, so he said, Lord, will you slay a people who are just and innocent?

Mas Abimelec no se había acercado a ella, y dijo: Señor, ¿destruirás a una nación aunque sea inocente ?

5 D id not the man tell me, She is my sister? And she herself said, He is my brother. In integrity of heart and innocency of hands I have done this.

¿No me dijo él mismo: “Es mi hermana”? Y ella también dijo: “Es mi hermano.” En la integridad de mi corazón y con manos inocentes yo he hecho esto.

6 T hen God said to him in the dream, Yes, I know you did this in the integrity of your heart, for it was I Who kept you back and spared you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not give you occasion to touch her.

Entonces Dios le dijo en el sueño: Sí, yo sé que en la integridad de tu corazón has hecho esto; y además, yo te guardé de pecar contra mí; por eso no te dejé que la tocaras.

7 S o now restore to the man his wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.

Ahora pues, devuelve la mujer al marido, porque él es profeta y orará por ti, y vivirás. Mas si no la devuelves, sabe que de cierto morirás, tú y todos los tuyos.

8 S o Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all these things; and the men were exceedingly filled with reverence and fear.

Abimelec se levantó muy de mañana, llamó a todos sus siervos y relató todas estas cosas a oídos de ellos; y los hombres se atemorizaron en gran manera.

9 T hen Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What have you done to us? And how have I offended you that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me what ought not to be done.

Entonces Abimelec llamó a Abraham, y le dijo: ¿Qué nos has hecho ? ¿Y en qué he pecado contra ti, para que hayas traído sobre mí y sobre mi reino un pecado tan grande ? Me has hecho cosas que no se deben hacer.

10 A nd Abimelech said to Abraham, What did you see that you in doing such a thing as this?

Y Abimelec añadió a Abraham: ¿Qué has hallado para que hayas hecho esto?

11 A nd Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely there is no reverence or fear of God at all in this place, and they will slay me because of my wife.

Y Abraham respondió: Porque me dije: Sin duda no hay temor de Dios en este lugar, y me matarán por causa de mi mujer.

12 B ut truly, she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father but not of my mother; and she became my wife.

Además, en realidad es mi hermana, hija de mi padre, pero no hija de mi madre; y vino a ser mi mujer.

13 W hen God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, This kindness you can show me: at every place we stop, say of me, He is my brother.

Y sucedió que cuando Dios me hizo salir errante de la casa de mi padre, yo le dije a ella: “Este es el favor que me harás: a cualquier lugar que vayamos, dirás de mí: ‘Es mi hermano.’”

14 T hen Abimelech took sheep and oxen and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham and restored to him Sarah his wife.

Entonces Abimelec tomó ovejas y vacas, siervos y siervas, y se los dio a Abraham, y le devolvió a Sara su mujer.

15 A nd Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before you; dwell wherever it pleases you.

Y dijo Abimelec: He aquí, mi tierra está delante de ti; habita donde quieras.

16 A nd to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given this brother of yours a thousand pieces of silver; see, it is to compensate you and to vindicate your honor before all who are with you; before all men you are cleared and compensated.

Y a Sara le dijo: Mira, he dado a tu hermano mil piezas de plata; he aquí, esta es tu vindicación delante de todos los que están contigo, y ante todos, quedas vindicada.

17 S o Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his female slaves, and they bore children,

Abraham oró a Dios, y Dios sanó a Abimelec, a su mujer y a sus siervas; y tuvieron hijos.

18 F or the Lord had closed fast the wombs of all in Abimelech’s household because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.

Porque el Señor había cerrado completamente toda matriz en la casa de Abimelec por causa de Sara, mujer de Abraham.
